Dollhouse is good

Television

It has the lingo and the pedigree.

Just watched the first 3 eps >on hulu< .

Scarab Sages

I agree... also there is some inside information that it will get better.

Apparently for the first 6 episodes FOX micromanaged Whedon... after that they left him to do his own thing. They have filmed 13 eps and 6-13 are the bomb.

Check it:

PS. How do I turn the above URL into a link again?

Like This.

oh that did not tell you anything.

under the box there is a BBCode tags you can use, just hit the show button and it will show you how to make a link.

Doomed! I smell DOOMED!

Why is this show good again?

Scarab Sages

Hot chicks in short dresses help. :)

It hasn't started off as well as Firefly did, but my wife and I are certainly going to give it every chance. Joss has proven himself over and over, and Buffy didn't start off all that great either.

If the above is true I can't wait for episode 6 and beyond. :)

Scarab Sages

I never got into firefly... I actually thought it was bad... and used 2nd rate actors. IMHO.

Angel was his last great work and I wish there was more seasons.

I'm of the complete opposite opinion. IMO Firefly was the only JW series that was really good. Buffy and Angel were badly acted and badly written tripe. I haven't watched Dollhouse yet so I have no opinion on it yet.

Oooh!!! I found my ring of wishes. It was under the cushions of my couch.

:: gets in to wish making stance

"I wish Josh and all the other actors will get back together and make a 100 more Firefly episodes."

Just watched the latest ep of Dollhouse.

I like the allusion to evolutionary biology, and the ethics of using other human beings as tools. It is intriguing; for example, why do we make interns work for free. Combined with the deep bonds of loyalty between some of the characters, and it all makes my medulla oblongata hurt.

Some really deep stuff going on here. Plus, the shoes they’re wearing are cool.

And I haven't liked any of his shows before. But I am enjoying Dollhouse, and so is my wife.

Dark Archive

A friend recommended that I watch this series, and i tried.. i really tried.. after 10 minutes, i just couldn't watch anymore. It just didn't grab my interest.. sucks cuz i wanted to like it. What's more is that when i told her that i didn't like it, she was genuinely offended and p*ssed off that i didn't. Oh well...

I truly hate Joss Whedon with every shred of my being. I will not watch this solely because it is his creation, and look forward to stealing Tensor's Ro3W so I can use it to return Whedon to the Abyss that spawned him at the dawn of time.

::pauses for a sip of haterade:: Ah. Refreshing.

Why?

Scarab Sages

I dont watch shows because of who made them.

I didnt like the concept or idea of Firefly and it took me along time to get around to watch some.

Angel on the other hand... ;)

I'm developing a theory about Alpha...

Spoiler:
He's Adam, and is trying to make Echo his Eve. A new start, new people. plus it plays on the A and E

Just a WAG

Just a WAG

I think Alpha was the first, and they tried to load him up with all the programs, so he would be a super agent (like how they had Neo learn Kung Fu).

But, humans are flawed and they just created a BBEG.

I realized tonight that to understand this show you have to have some understanding of how the human brain works -- like biological and algorithmically. C’s in high school will not cut it.. nor in college.

Yay, this show is doomed.

Yeah, because it takes more thinking than American Idol *sigh*

Almost caught up, with the vault episode, it doesn't occur to anyone in the Dollhouse that they essentially had to wipe not just the personality, but the blank persona as well? That won't have lasting effects?

And now we know Echo's real name, I think.

And I loved Dichen Lachman's acting. Her and Eliza Dushku did a really good job of playing the active personality almost exactly the same, clear down to the mannerisms.

Watched the first four episodes now. I really like it. I pretty much understand most of the dialogues and all, even though I'm not a native speaker.

I like the premise of the show a lot, and the fact that

Spoiler:
Victor is a doll as well
makes it even more fun to watch.

Some speculation

Spoiler:
Anyone else think Boyd Langton is an active too?

Spoiler:
only if he's a 'retired' active that they programmed as a handler. I don't think so, or they'd pull him immediately. If Alpha can tele-wipe an active, what's to keep him from hitting the active and the handler.

For that matter, he heard the wipe code as well. If he's an active shouldn't that wipe him?

Scarab Sages

Spoiler:
I thought they said Alpha has incorporated all the personas into a real identity, or he made one himself and put it together. I'm thinking he is no longer an 'active' but a new person.

Love last weeks eps:
Spoiler:
Where they went on a search for man reactions... LulZ!

Oh... and head security guy is a dick.
Spoiler:
It's cool that Echo is somehow keeping a 'hate on' for him. despite being erased... like with her being friends with Victor and Sasha. (the asian blonde gal)

...but...

Spoiler:
Why would he need to be a retired active? Why would they pull him immediately? I am thinking the assignment is not complete, so they do not wipe him every episode. They could have activated him after Alpha, so Alpha does not know about him.

Maybe a tele-wipe is doll specific.

On this subject... NATO Phonetic Alphabet entries that make sense as names (and who might therefore show up as characters):

Alpha
Bravo (could also be Baker, which would work even better)
Charlie
Delta (could also be Dixie, which would also be a better fit)
Echo
India
Juliet
Lima
Mike
November (pushing it, but was [may still be?] a planned character, so...)
Oscar
Papa
Romeo
Sierra
Tango (iffy)
Victor
Yankee (also iffy)
Zulu

Alpha = has funny hair.
Bravo = "why thank you."
Charlie = horse?
Delta = ever changing
Echo = what?
India = hot
Juliet = S. Chicago
Lima = bean
Mike = what you sing into
November = turkey day
Oscar = little gold statue
Papa = Papa!
Romeo = playya
Sierra = good climbing
Tango = target
Victor = stern teacher
Yankee = american
Zulu = time warrior

Given the military connotation, I think Tango would be a poor choice of name.

Could be worse. "We're sending Charlie and Foxtrot on a mission. We don't expect them back."

You, sir, almost caused me to snort water out of my nose. :)

I like the show too, although the Topher character annoys me.

"Hi I'm Tandy, but since I love dancing you can cal me Tango..."

Haven't watched Dollhouse, Loved Firefly...The characters were all characters, they had personality...Jayne, Shepherd Book, Mal...all of em, there was so much more to tell in that series, but FOX FOXed it up and cancelled it, when they aired it out of order...after 6 freaking episodes...

Those guys SUCK!

I only watched a little Buffy, and never watched Angel or Dark Angel.

Firefly had too much character and not enough action, HAWT chickness¹ and fast music.

¹This is, in no way, meant as disparagement of Morena Baccarin's, Summer Glau's, Jewel Staite's or Gina Torres' HAWT chickness. Costuming simply failed to put too little on them.

You mean 'costuming simply failed by putting too much on them', right?

heh Dollhouse is poaching BSG. Willy Lampkin now :-) Glad I like him.

Scarab Sages

The last episode "Man on the Street" was pretty good.

Liked the fight scene between Echo and FBI guy a lot and no slo-mo..yay!

Olivia William's character is fast becoming my favorite (DeWitt), and I am actually starting to like her goon (Dominic) too.

(loved him boffing the perv' in the back of the head..lol)

What is the latest rumor again?

I'm two eps behind, gonna watch them on Hulu.

Matthew Morris wrote:

Actually, BSG poached Firefly first. The actor who played Lampkin on BSG was a job broker named Badger on Firefly.

I have to say I didn't find the pilot of this show very enjoyable and didn't like episodes 2 or 3 much more. However, I stuck with it, mostly because there's not much else for me to watch on Hulu on Mondays, and was pleased with the direction it started to take. I was originally afraid it was just going to be an excuse to genre switch every week.

"Oh look, this week we can be a crime drama, now we're a sci-fi mystery show, now this week we're an action-packed spy thriller."

Granted, that does still tend to happen sometimes, even in the recent episodes, but the show hasn't been afraid to actually move its main storyline along at a reasonable pace. Plus the "mission" don't take up as much of the show time as they do in the first episode. Things that I would normally expect to drag out for entire seasons are happening by episode 10 of this show. Almost makes me wonder if Joss was planning on being canceled. :)

I knew Romo looked familiar, I just couldn't place him. Thanks! :)

EDIT:
Oh and I agree about the show getting much better as it goes. After the first ep I was like "weeell, it's OK, but...". Now I am hooked!
