Official Pathfinder Character Sheets - Tweak needed

Playtest Reports

Liberty's Edge

Hi,

In playing a good amount of Pathfinder RPG D&D lately using the official Paizo Pathfinder RPG charcater sheets, one thing has come up ...

Now that the Perception skill has been 'broken out' into the various senses (sight, hearing, smell etc) and various races have bonuses to different sub catagories (which, by the way, is a VERY cool way to handle this skill!) we have found that having only Perception listed on the Character sheet makes it very easy to forget about the bonus.

It REALLY seems like the sheet's layout needs to be tweaked to include the subcatagories. Something like this:

Perception: _________
Sight: ________
Smell: ________
Hearing: ______

etc ...

Thanks!

Just wanted to bump this in the hopes that someone at Paizo sees it. I really think this tweak needs made on the official sheet!

Thanks!

Has it been confirmed that perception stays this way?

Why do you ask? I don't recall hearing or reading that there was any serious chance that perception was going to go back to the way it was. Did I miss something???

I certainly hope they don't change it back! I really like this change.

I would LOVE to see this. The senses could be listed as an indented subcategory beneath Perception... this would be much easier to record on character sheets in general.

My group generally uses the misc. colum or the border for indiv.
senses as there is usually only one or two. the sheet is kind of crowded anyway, but still very useful.

My group uses the following notation:

Perception (Hearing +2) +4 (1)

skill name (special bonus) skill total without special bonus (ranks)

No, I haven't heard there would be a change in this, but I'm assuming that anything can change to final rules. We don't divide perception to different areas in our group, it's so much easier to use just perception.

I don't see the point to 'going back' If you are going to have sub-categories, then you may as well go back to spot and listen.

I was thinking about this too Marc, but they'd have to be careful to make sure it didn't look like separate skills (like the Craft/Profession/Perform ones).

Generally I just tell my players to include the bonus if its the Elven Listen & Spot (Search included in "Visual"), or notate it if its anything else.

All good thoughts. My problem with just noting these bonus off to the side or under the misc. heading is that it's too easy to marginalize them and forget them. It also gets confusing when you have a few bonuses to the Perception skill that apply at different times.

It just seems to me that if they are going to go to the trouble to specify that perception is broken down into sub categories, and that various races get bonuses to those sub categories, then the character sheet to actually show that and allow those bonuses to be easily tracked.
