I don't know why this is bugging me, but with the new Pathfinder feat progression (every odd level) and ability increases (4, 8, 12, 16, 20), there now seems to be "empty" levels at 2, 6, 10, 14, and 18.
I'm trying to come up with something that could fill these "empty" levels. Maybe bonus Skill Tricks (Complete Scoundrel) or Advanced Racial Talents? Maybe some kind of Heroic Destiny progression (Archmage, Noble Knight, Saint, Legendary Scoundrel, Discoverer, Inventor of Artifacts, Corrupted Villain, Tragic Hero, Lucky, True Love, Torn-between-two-worlds, Loyal Companion, Ringbearer, Starcrossed Lover, Noble Sacrifice, Uniter of Tribes, First Contact, Cursed, Seeker of Perfection, Creator of a New Homeland, Traitor, Betrayer, Master Thief, Fate-bonded Twin, Racial Champion, Revolutionary, Exemplar of a Cause, Redeemer of Evil Bloodline, Overcomer of Tasks or Tests, Reluctant Traveler, etc.)?
I'm looking for something flavorful, not too complicated, and relatively low-powered (less than a feat in power, or around a feat in power, but more focused or specialized).

What Pdf reader are you using? all but the most recent version of adobe allow you to take a screenshot (which includes the encounter numbers and secret doors) or selection tool which allows you to select the map layer without the text layer.
What he said - typically selecting the image, copying it to Paint or whatever, will leave all the text behind (occasionally including "S"'s and such).

Wouldn't class abilities fill these levels?
They do. And to be honest, in our playtest, we have found that going with the D&D feat progression rather than the PFRPG feat progression has led to much happier fighters. When everyone gets a feat every other level, the joy of being the feat-heavy fighter is diminished. Similarly, when base skill points are increased, the joy of being the skill-monkey rogue is diminished.
So, from my standpoint, and what we have found through our long 1st-14th level playtest, the best thing for happy PCs is a D&D 3.5 feat progression, fascinating class builds a la PFRPG, and the discovery that there really aren't 'empty' character levels any more.

yeah, just to add another voice to the choir, if a level includes a class feature, it isn't a dead level. I don't include spell progression in that tally. Example: Paladin 7, 8, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19 in 3.5

Doh - had trouble connecting to the site when I was replying and got cross-posted.

So what I had meant to post was that when skills were initially being discussed during the Alpha stages, I had considered the following:
- Bonus to "Class" skills with ranks starts at +2
- Increases at each non-4 even level (2,6,10,14,18).
- This would be the same from levels 2-5.
- This would be +3 to +4 from levels 14-20. That's probably not that big a difference at those levels, however
- This would be additional skill creep - Currently a 10th level Rogue with Stealthy and Skill Focus (Stealth) can have +23 *before* Dex and magic.
- This would probably over-encourage skill point splitting, and multi-classing for class skills.
- This is probably not a necessary thing - class features *do* fill these spots well usually, but a character level improvement at those would be satisfying.
Thanks - sorry for the off-post.

I found the opposite. The fighter are very happy. Sure the others get more feats but so does the fighter. What my fighter players are telling me is they can now balance between two styles. In 3.5 they'd be purely one style as you can't afford to branch out a bit. Now as one of the fighter players pointed out he is where he wants to be in his archery and need to wait for his BAC to increase. So he's picking up a few extra feat to make him useful with sword. Same thing with my mounted fighter too. In 3.5 they couldn't do this as easily.
The rogue getting Weapon Finesse earlier because of more feats isn't a issue to my fighters. Heck they think it's a great thing.
