Hey all,
I'm looking for five players who want to get in on a Curse of the Crimson Throne AP play by post. I know there are already a lot of games running this AP, but I'm hoping there are still some folks out there who'd like to give this a spin.
I'm seeking a balanced party of first level PCs, with no evil alignments please. We'll use a 20 point ability score buy, with max hp and gold to get you started. It'll be a fun one, I promise. :)
Who's on board?

Malvoisin |

I'm game. Love to play a human fighter (dual short swords), maybe with a few rogue levels added later.
BTW, will you be using 3.5 or PFRPG Beta? I'm OK with either.
It's PF Beta. I couched that in the thread title, but I forgot to mention the fact in my opening post. Sorry about that.
A fighter sounds like a great start. Do you have the CotCT player's guide (it's a free download)? I am interested in hearing more about your fighter's background and history (particularly his background trait).

Malvoisin |

Hello there. I would love to get in on your upcoming Curse of the Crimson Throne Game. I am thinking of playing either a Bard or a Sorceror. I will get the Player's Guide downloaded and have a look through it as soon as possible and I will get beck to you with a good background.
Sounds great, dathom. I look forward to what you come up with.

Malvoisin |

same s Dathom , I would be interested in playing this .
No real idea for a character yet but he/she will certainly be korvosian born . I 'll wait to see what kind of character is needed .
That's fine, robin, but you should know that I will be filling spots in the game as I see character backgrounds coming in. So, I wouldn't wait too long, or you could get passed by.

Malvoisin |

Will you be using Traits? If yes, from the Player's Guide and/or the PF Traits web pdf?
That's a great question, fray. The answer is both. Choose one background trait from the CotCT player's guide, and one additional trait from the online pdf. This leads me to expand a bit on what I'm looking for in an expression of interest in this game. I want to know something about how you envision the beginning of your character's story, and how you plan to roleplay your character. Why is he in Korvosa? What's her past history with Lamm? What's his personality like in a nutshell? What does she look like? You don't have to write a novella, just a paragraph. This should be enough to let me know if your style of play meshes well with my style as a DM. (Here's a hint, if you hate doing this sort of thinking about your PCs, this probably isn't the game for you).
fray's question is very relevant because your selection of the character's traits will be a great starting point. For the moment, everyone is on even footing because no one has yet given me much to go on. As good character backgrounds come in (ones that don't mirror too closely any other accepted submission...diversity is a good thing), I'll start filling out the party.
I hope this is helpful. Just let me know if there are any other questions.

dathom |

Ok, so below is a background for the Sorceror that I will be playing. My character will be a human, Arcane Blooded sorceror.
So I have decided to take Missing Sibling as my background trait and for my other Trait, I will take Charming.

Is the leadership feat allowed?
Is it just the Beta rules or any other books allowed?
I will allow the leadership feat, once the time comes.
I prefer, for simplicity's sake, to stick largely to the the Beta rulebook. I suppose if there's some small bit (a feat, piece of equipment, etc.) that comes from another source, I would consider it. But I am not likely to approve any nonstandard races or classes.

Any more slots left open?
I'll play a fighter...or whatever...cleric? expert? heh.
Paladin?
The character would be based upon redemption, he/she suffered greatly from Lamm, and wishes nothing more than to prevent others from suffering the same fate...vengeance would be metted out with sorrow and hope. (at work so I can't access which trait it would be) You can check out my alts like Paellat, Kaelledd and Uathach to check out my backgrounds of other characters.
If you're full, no problem I'm in a few games at the moment.

Not at all full, actually I have only one player so far (dathom as a human sorcerer). So, still four slots to fill. I'm looking for a PC background before admitting players (including trait selection...one background and one other, see my post above for more details).
So, if you can settle on a class and write up a paragraph of background, you can very likely land a spot in this game.
edit: just noticed you can't get to the traits at work, but that's fine. The background is the real thing, traits can be specified later. Basically, I just want to see that you've put some thought into your character. You've already got off to a good start.

I went ahead and created the discussion thread for this game.
dathom, go ahead and migrate over there, if you would, to discuss the creation of your sorcerer. We'll focus on finding some other players to join you over here.

Marrala the Lost |

OK Let's go with a fighter.
A young human girl orphaned at a young age and left on her own on the mean streets of Korvosa, Marrala "Marra" was taken in by Lamm early on. Marra wasn't the most gorgeous girl, which protected her from Lamm's more lecherous activities, most of the time. She was a tough, acting as an enforcer for the other Lost Lambs. She fell in love with another of Lamm's girls (Calliope). When she tried to protect her from Lamm, she was beaten nearly to death to teach her a lesson. She escaped with her life, but not her love...Calliope stood up for herself after Marra left, and she was killed, the second one to stand up to him had be used as an example to prevent the rest of the Lambs from rebelling against him.

There's a problem with Leadership, you can't actually take it at 6th anymore...in my game I allow it at 5th, since that's the feat you would have been able to take it with in 3e, it just got moved to 5th level in PFRPG, but others make you use the 7th level feat to take it.

Good spot. Sometimes these differences between PFRPG and 3.5 slip past my notice. :)
I think I'd be in the 'No Leadership feat until 7th level' camp. 5th level just seems too early in an adventuring career to start attracting cohorts and the like. Just my opinion.

Sorin the halfling rogue
Sorin's background
Sorin’s mother was a slave to a wealthy Chelaxian family. She was pregnant with Sorin while the family was on vacation checking out the rugged frontier surrounding Korvosa. She went into labor in the before they could return home and she gave birth to him the Church of Asmodeus. The family didn’t want to be bothered with a new born on the way home so Sorin was abandoned at the church. He was raised there for a couple years, used as a servant but his masters quickly got tired of him being too weak and small and expelled him to the streets. He stole what he could to survive but was quickly snatched up by Lemm and his crew. Sorin immediately clashed with Lemm’s vile gnome partner and was relentlessly attacked and tortured. One day Sorin couldn’t take it and attacked the gnome while he beat the gnome with his fists and feet he was stabbed several times in the chest in stomach. Lemm pinned a note to his chest and had three of the children drag Sorin to an alley that the all the kids must pass through on their way back to the Fishery. Sorins body and the note reading ‘Lemm's defiant lamb’ was to be a warning, a waste since most the children couldn’t read, but as the children started returning after their days work Sorin was gone.
Sorin was found by a passing noble women and she had her guards take Sorin to a Shelyn temple where he was brought back from the brink. The women let him stay at her manor and he did some small jobs and ran errands for her to repay his debt. He waits and plans his revenge on Lemm and his gnome parasite.

Ok here is my story
10 years ago , Clandru Jeggare was 12 when the horrible year began . His father was a good merchant but even good merchants can have bad luck . And his father turned to the drug shivers to escape reality of a business gone bad. Soon Clandru grew too used to go outside seeking his father in cheap shivers dens. It only took 6 months for Clandru to see his father go for a proud man to an addict ready to do anything to have his next shot even ready to sell Clandru's younger sister. When he came down from his high and realized what he had just done , Clandru's father hanged himself leaving a part of the money behind ...
With this and a loan the church of Abadar gave her , her mother succeeded in rebuilding the family business nearly from scratch , she even succeeded in paying Clandru entrance into the clergy of Abadar .
There is an unspoken pact beetween them , one day , Clandru will have enough influence to order the law to find and judge the pusher responsible for all this one Gardren Lamm and he'll learned what happened to Falosie .
Clandru has seen what one moment of weakness can to a civilized man but he has also seen what a dertemined womand can do with little.
He believes in Abadar credo but also that help given freely to good men is in fact an investment which is a bit heretical .
He has learned to speak well , to know when to shut up and listen and to be useful to others near him. He still has some time reserved in his schedule to search for Gaedren wherabouts but it has been ten years now and he sometimes fears Gaedren is not in town anymore
Technically ; I think LG , Protection and Law domain , Craft objects feat and a strong leaning toward social skills in order to be useful to the church . I am thinking the missing siling trait event if the background is a little different . For the other trait , can someone give the lin to it ?

Dorran Kelvar |

Dorran Kelvar, Cleric of Erastil
lol well i hope you like a book for a background... once i started i couldnt stop writing...
For a couple months things were ok, Dorran had saved many animals and scrounged enough food and water to feed both himself and many strays but his luck was running out. Times had gotten tough and the weather was getting colder and soon all Dorran wanted was a hot meal and a warm bed and he thought about returning home. While on his way back home Dorran was stopped by a man named Gaedren Lamm who said that not only could he provide Dorran with shelter and food but Dorran would also be able to come and go as he pleases to continue his work, and all Dorran had to do was occasionally preform "simple jobs" Dorran couldn't resist such an offer. It was all a lie, for 4 years Dorran did Gaedren's bidding and if Dorran ever refused or ever failed he would get beaten and battered bloody. While on such a job Dorran stumbled upon a small shelter he made that was filled with a nursing mother and several puppies. All were malnourished and the mother was apparently sick and not able to provide milk. Dorran stayed for couple days nursing the mom back to health and soon she was feeding her young again. While staying with the creatures Dorran discovered a wooden symbol. Fascinated Dorran picked it up and placed it in the waist line of his pants and after making sure the animals would be alright he returned to Gaedren.
Upon returning, Dorran had no sooner hid the symbol before Gaedren found and beat the young boy for not only disappearing but for also failing the job. Battered the boy climbed into bed and soon fell asleep with the symbol. The next day while acquiring objects for Gaedren's latest task, Dorran did some research and found out the symbol belonged to Erastil god of farming, hunting, trade, and family. When hearing this Dorran's thought immediately returned to his mother. Dorran made it a point to find a church of Erastil to hear the words of this god.
Finding a small church in the South Shore district Dorran walked up to the building. Upon entering the church a calm peaceful feeling crept over and soothed Dorran's soul and he stayed and listened to the priests talk about good law community, plants and even animals. All day Dorran stayed and listened to the wise men's words. When he left the temple, Gaedren grabbed the lad and told him that he was following the youth and that he was going to pay dearly. And dearly Dorran payed. First his holy symbol was taken and he was forced to watch it burn and then Gaedren repeatedly hit the boy over and over again till he was bloody and barely breathing.Surprisingly instead of feeling the pain from each hit after the 10th one, a strange peaceful feeling washed over the boy. It was the same feeling as in the church. It blocked his pain. As soon as Gaedren finished his assault and left, Dorran still bleeding and barely able to walk snuck out and made his way to the church steps and was only able to give a slight knock before collapsing.
As luck would have it, a priest was passing by near the door when he heard the faint knock. He opened and helped the boy of 12 inside where his wounds and spirit could heal.
The years went by and Dorran, entered the ranks of the priesthood and soon became a valued memberas part of the clergy of Erastil. At the age of 22, his greatest achievement was the work with the community in trying to stop people like Gaedren and his work in progress in trying to get a shelter for not only those who need a home but also for animals. All the while counting his days till the time came he would get his chance to right the wrongs in his life and get back at the man who made his childhood a living hell.

Okay, two more backgrounds have been written up and they're both quite good. I'm happy to welcome robin and Nasserath to the game! There are some issues I'd like to discuss regarding party balance, but let's take those over to the discussion thread (linked above), as recruiting is now closed. For those who didn't get in, please feel free to follow the game and I'll give a holler if the need for an alternate should ever arise.
See you on the discussion thread. :)
