Been toying with the idea of Lk not growing up to be a druid, any suggestions?
He seems to be going more along the fighter or monk path at this point. Or maybe ranger could work too. Although the fun part about free-form is that you don't have to have a definite class. I know I'm not using a class for Arielle. She's more a force of nature. ;)

And here I was thinking she was just full of hot air...
She reminds a little of Tris from the Circle of Magic series.

It is by Tamora Peirce(or Pierce, can't remember). She has also written Trickster's Choice, Trickstr's Queen, The Circle Opens series, Melting Stones, The Will of the Empress, and a few other series.

I've read Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen. And some of the Protector of the Small series. But I hadn't heard of the Circle of Magic series. This might have something to do with my library not keeping much in the way of back catalogue. It can be very frustrating. If it weren't for MELCAT I'd go crazy. :)

Ah, CoM is really good. A shame our library only carries a single book...
CoM also has some other series, such as the Circle Breaks and one other book, I think, all connected plot-wise. It's a pretty big series.

            Kiba's History Part 2
It wasn't long before Kiba found the wolf, eating the remains of a once large and powerful animal. Not one to attack an enemy unawares, Kiba snapped his fingers. The wolf, so hard to see at night, leapt away from it's kill and snarled at him. Kiba stated very clearly in the wolfen tongue that he wanted the wolf to stay away from people and leave their animals alone. His only reply was the wolf leaping at him, fangs aimed for his throat. Steeping slightly to one side, Kiba grabbed the wolf and used it's own momentum to throw it down the hill leading to it's cave. He repeated his request and got the same answer. Having tried reason, Kiba gave up and this time threw the large wolf at an rock. He smiled as he saw the wolf fall to the ground, unconscious, only to have that smile dissolve into shock as the wolf slowly changed into a women close to his age. Remorseful for his actions, Kiba picked her up and placed her carefully on the cot in her cave. Once she was settled, he began to clean and heal her wounds. Only after he had removed all obvious ailments did he think to search for them inside. A simple spell revealed the reason behind her attacks. She was rabid, and the virus had almost spread to her mind. He spent the rest of the night purging the rabies from her system.
He was asleep when she woke up, in control of her self for the first time in weeks. She found a note next to her that explained everything that had happen, and as she looked at man who had saved her life, she felt something that caused her face to turn bright red. As she tried to calm down, she heard a chuckle and turned quickly to see a smiling Kiba struggle to get up. "Good to see your finally awake, I had begun to think I was to late in cring you. My name, atleast the one I go by most often, is Kiba." As he stood there looking at her and smiling she was forced to look away as her face turned scarlet. "I.. my name is, uh, Ayla Silvana."
From that point, they began to travel together. And it wasn't long before Ayla's feeling for Kiba were returned. A week later, they were officially married, and nine months later their first child, a boy they named after his father, was born. A year later, when Little Kiba was just barely able to walk from one wall to another in their mountain home, Kiba learned what can happen when you forget the past...
He had been out hunting, when he heard a howl of anger and fear rise from the direction of his home, and turned to see smoke rising into the air. A howl of his own, one filled with rage, rushed from deep within him as he took the form a huge white wolf and running with no regard for his safety. What he saw caused him to lose control, something he hadn't done in years. There was Ayla, snarling visciously at a group of men stabbing at her with spears, standing guard over their wailing son. But she was badly hurt, and slowing down. Kiba went blind with rage, and the last thing he remembered was ripping the throats of the men who had dared to attack his family...
When his violent fury ended, he weakly made his way over to his wife. She had shifted back as her strength failed her, and looked at him with exhuastion on her face. She looked at Little Kiba, worry in her eyes. "Is.. is he.. okay?"
"He's fine Ayla, you fought long enough for me to get here and help. But you're..."
"I know. I'm just glad he's o-AH!" An arrow had embedded itself in her chest, and she died as he tried to to keep her alive. He shifted to his hybrid so fast it felt like the first time as he whirled on a chuckle. A figure stood next to a tree, another arrow already nocked.
"One demon down, two to go." The arrow shot toward Kiba, it's silver tip gleaming evily in the fading light. He ignored it as it buried itself in his shoulder, rushing toward the person who had caused the death of his wife and threatened the same for his child. When he slammed the person against the tree, the hood feel away and revealed the of someone he had nearly forgotten... the chieftan's daughter.
He stood there, shocked, as she smiled at him.
"It seems the demon remembers me, how touching. Why don't you just let me end your life? I'll let the demon-spawn over there have an easy death if y-" She found it impossible to finish her sentence without a head. Kiba left her to rot out in the open as he began to build his wife's funeral pyre, and held their son in his arms as he watched the smoke fill the night sky in the shape of a wolf.
Kitty and Rhia did not ask him were he had been, or why he now had a boy he cared for alone. But Ancora knew, she had known since she sensed him enter her Valley. She helped his soul heal, and kept strife from her Valley so he could spend time with her 'cousin'.
The years passed, and Little Kiba grew fast. But he made no friends save Kitty, Rhia, Gip, and Ancora. He never knew what happened to his mother, and Kiba feared the day when he would. He vowed never to tell him of that horrible day, though the tales he told of Ayla were never kept from his son.

Yeah, I have been giving it some thought, and I figure I am going to ease my avatars out of the main spotlight for now. The frustration level really isn't worth it to me. Perhaps when I am not running about like a beheaded chicken I can devote more time to it, but having to search about for threads in the PbP forum morass is just annoying to me.
I'll (hopefully) join back in later after the summer rush assuming something is done vis-a-vis the threads.

Update: Just want to let folks know that I am not mad at them, I haven't been posting in the free-form threads because of my frustration with their situation, not from anything anyone did. I also have more time constraints, and keeping up with the story arcs can be a bear.
I am still posting on the OTD 'fun' threads, except where it is obvious my posts are not wanted. It's easier when there is no big storyline to drop a one liner of two in those types of threads.

Seeing his creations losing ground the Mage summons spirits from beneath the ancient battlefield and creates a merging between spirits and metal. The act saved the day for the Mage, but the merging could not be undone...and it spread to the Warforged of his enemy. With their newfound sentience, both Warforged and Golem soon left their creators in search of the lives they had lost so many years ago.
Many of the Golems were members of the Ch'ack Clan, well known for their thirst for battle and for liquor. Over the decades that followed the Ch'acks forgot their previous lives, their transformations, and the clan name. They simply became Jacks.
A quest of discovey has been started on the Ream of Dreams thread.

Wow. *deep blush*
My writing moods (directly connected to quality) go in weird cycles. I enjoy them when they strike, as long as I have a target. The Jack history has been rolling around in my head for a while.
Who knows? Maybe I'll keep it going regularly. It's good to keep the brain awake.
Thanks!

Just ignore me if I'm getting in the way over in the Realms of Dream thread, and I'll find a way to deal with it. The dragon encounter could be in the past, present, future, or some weird hallucination. It's actually long dead and literally turned into a book, with this form existing as something like an astral projection or dream form.

Hmmm...not sure how to connect it. Part 4 includes the final battle; the death of the clan. It explains the emotions of the ghosts pulled from their sleep and merged with the constructs. So far, I've been rolling along as a simple narrative.
Would the dragon be a better protagonist or antagonist? There's a major mysterious antagonist in part 4. Interraction might fit in after Jorgen's death.
Scary thing is I feel like I'm rushing the story along, with fragmented memories. But these forums are unique. I wasn't prepared to get so swept up in my own little side trip.
The dragon could also tie in as a link btwn the spirit journey and awakening, with the book manifested. Hmm....

Styrmenvanterix is almost as old as the planes. Known as 'The Wyrm of Knowledge' he was double-crossed by another early dragon ('The Betrayer'), killed in a big battle, and some of his hide turned into the binding of a book in which his soul has been trapped practically forever. He has some limited ability to astrally project on occasions, I would think, or wander into dreams. Jack Hammer could be recalling a past life encounter with Styrmenvanterix, or encountering him in the present, or something else really weird. The dragon knows a lot about most people he bumps into - I think he has a sort of 'read their story like a book' ability - and as one option might be able to present memories/histories to Jack Hammer in some figurative manner. (If the dragon is in the present, the book he is currently reading might be a representation/metaphor of the events Jack Hammer is experiencing.)
He might originally have been chaotic evil, (as his creator was) but that wore off pretty quickly, and he slipped into a neutral 'observer' sort of detachment.
Anyway, off to bed here. Goodnight all.

I'll mull over the dragon. Maybe the librarian of forgotten past, or tied to the spirit walk somehow. As you suggest, maybe he's reading the account in the future. Cool possibilities. If I can draft out the final installment(s) I might find a fit. So far I've been throwing this together quickly.

BTW, to give you all a Cliff Notes version of my little side story -
When the Earth Spirit left JH it revealed a void in his soul that he had never paid attention to before. Hence he faced the loss of intoxicating power, lingering doubt, fear, confusion, feelings of inadequacy, and longing. He literally was becoming a shell.
The story is meant to fill the hole in his soul, maybe give some insight into the Jack persona, and reveal the fear behind his protective nature. You know, all that mushy stuff. ;)
Maybe I'll add bits and pieces from time to time, once the first block is done.
