[Feat] Run (or skill?)

Skills and Feats

I don't often see the run feat taken (or used) as it seems there are very few opportunities available where players are able to move in a straight line which is required of the run movement type.

Would it be possible to "juice" this feat up a little by adding in the ability to allow one 45 degree change of direction during the run?

Maybe there should be a Run skill, just as there is a Fly skill? This would then require the character to make a Run skill check on such things as:

turn 45 degrees = 15 DC
turn 90 degrees = 20 DC
multiple turns in 1 round = cumulative +5 DC after the first turn taken.
attempt to use jump skill = 20 DC

Alternative Option:

Athletics skill.
- Combine rules similar to the above run rules, along with climbing and possibly swimming?

Kor, I like your original idea of giving the run feat a little more... like the one turn during while running. Or the run feat could also allow you to run through difficult terrain at normal movement penalties.

Well, quite apart from the fact that swimming and flying are the same skill just in different media, why on earth do we need yet another skill to waste points on? Even 3.0 at its most skill-grainy never had a Run skill.

It should be a skill! As a feat, it's pretty useless. I would have to agree with you, it would have to be under an acrobatics roll with similar DC's as have been indicated above. This is quite a novel approach, keep up the good work!

Liberty's Edge

I would rather that the run feat simply included the expanded option of turning, and some bonus to Jump (or is it acrobatics now?) checks.
