Necromancy Specialist Bonus clarification

General Discussion (Prerelease)

This is the description of the Specialist Bonus (p.197):

prpg wrote:

Specialist Bonus: You can control 8 HD worth of undead

creatures per caster level. If you prepare spells of your
opposition schools, excess undead immediately become freewilled
and do not return to your control when you regain this
bonus. You choose which undead are released.

Does this refer to the 2nd lvl Wizard spell Command Undead Spell (p.210), and if so do all rules for that spell apply (with the exception of the increased HD)?

If not, what are the stats for this Bonus?

Thank you!
E

This was discussed elsewhere in another thread where someone thought it gave you the power to rebuke undead.

What this class feature does, is, in fact (the way I read it) to apply this bonus in addition to any HD worth of undead any non-necro character can control with any spell, ability, or class feature.

So if a wizard can control 10HD of undead with a spell, then a 1st level necro using the same spell could control 18HD of undead.

So effectively, a 20th level necro controls 160HD MORE of undead than any non necro character with the same spell(s).

Figure this into a necro/cleric/ mystic theurge who gets rebuke undead as well (channel neg energy) and you have an undead General (7 levels of necro would mean 56 HD of extra undead under his command.)

Thanks for the response. That makes sense. The wording definitely needs clarification.

agreed, it took me reading it after reading the posted question. I guess without a challenge to the clarification, it was hard to decide what it meant, but once soeone asked if it did X, then you could go back an read it, and then for someone reason, I got it's intention as did other readers?

Go figure.
There was sometalk on that thread about altering how that worked, making it a necro pool. like a KI pool an some other stuff, but I think it died.
As it stand, it allows you to a higher cieling on the maximum HD of undead under your control.
