Okay, this has been bothering me for years, if only because I can't figure it out -
Here's the ad: a bunch of people are at a board meeting where some sort of inept yet intense speaker is telling everyone to step outside "the box" , and keeps saying "the box" again and again - and then says something like, "people, we have to change the paradigm!" but pronounces it "Paradiggum." And then someone texts someone else in the room the message: A Boxy Moron.
As the person is laughing at this, the speaker says "JESSE?" and the man flips shut his phone, thinking that he's been caught. After a pause the speaker finishes his thought: "STEP AWAY FROM THE BOX."
What was this an ad for? I need to know - don't ask why. Just tell me, please!

Taco Bell ran spots like that. Think outside of the burger box.
EDIT: the guy wanted everyone to think outside the box hence outside the bun.

I think you're right think out side the box, then they would show a chalupa or some other taco-like thing folded with 6 or 8 sides...why do I remember that?

This is what most people say, but I don't remember any food in the ad at all - if anything I thought it was an ad for a cell phone company to show how you could insult people in front of their faces through text messaging.
Anyone else got some ideas?
I really think it was Taco Bell. They're the only ones I remember lampooning the "think outside the box" motivational corpspeak that was going out of fashion a few years ago.
If it helps, I don't think in the actual boardroom they had any food. They would cut from the broadroom scene to show the food close up while an announcer would describe it.
Maybe as your memory has faded, you're only remembering the actua; boardroom scene.

I think it was a phone ad as well. It was right at the beginning of the "outside the box" craze.
Taco Bell still uses "Think Outside the Bun" but this commercial is several years old.
This random post I found searching through google mentions it as a Verizon ad, and the post was made in '02, I think that's when the commercial was out.

I think it was an ad (one of many) about how in our post-industrial society we are all really just slaves trapped in a box. We desperately dream of escaping our box, so advertisers prey on this idea to get us to notice the crap they are peddling.
Edit: ever notice how box-like the cubicle you are sitting in is? -- Step away from the box.

Okay.
The commercial is called "Boxymoron".
It is a Verizon commercial from 2002.
This is the only place I could find it, and you have to pay $2.00 to be a Super Adgrunt for two days to view commercials on that site.
If anyone actually bothers to pay the 2 bucks and check out the commercial, if it's downloadable, could you share?
