what the heck are ouat caste dwarves?
In hushed whispers around Janderhoff, it is said that there exists a caste of dwarves -- the "Ouat" -- who are pariahs among their own kind for their heretical body-shaving beliefs. The "carryers of slurry" as they are euphemistically referred to are relegated to the most demeaning of tasks.

From the Pathfinder Chronicles: Campaign Setting page 7 under "Dwarves": ". . . and the squat, hairless contemplatives of Osirion's Ouat caste might share a common ancestral blood . . . "
As far as I know, this is the sole reference among the various Pathfinder supplements I have.
(italics enphasis mine)
My hope was that they were Dwarves that specialized in psionics.

I figured that's where you got it, ironically, and was just chiming in.
;)
Even if all that's mentioned is something like "Unlike other Dwarves, those of the Ouat Caste can choose the Psion as a favored class," I'd be elated. I'm guessing though, that they're probably just pegged as able to choose monk as favored class. Either way, I'd make them psions regardless of what Paizo ultimately does with them . . . if anything.

It's unlikely we'll be doing much with the Ouat Caste dwarves, and not only because I find the pun in the name to be kind of annoying. Legacy of Fire isn't particularly dwarf-centric (not that there's not dwarves in it, just that developing stuff about dwarves isn't on the to-do list for this adventure path), and so there won't be Ouat Caste dwarf stuff there.
As for psionics; we're still not ready to nail that issue down in Golarion. It'd be foolish to do so without rules to back them up. Psionics themselves are a fun part of the game, one I like and one with as much legacy as most everything else (they've been around since the start of 1st edition at the very least), but the current rules for psionics are just too open for abuse and function too differently from everything else in the game. Including psionics does more than change the flavor of the game, in my experience; it changes the fundamental way the game is played, since psions can nova their powers and then they have to rest. Psionics encourages the dreaded 15 minute adventuring day, in other words.
All that said, a psionics supplement for the Pathfinder RPG is a great idea, and I suspect it'll eventually happen, though.

Nooooooo...I just tried to quickly think of a behavior that mainstream dwarves would find particularly galling, and "bodyshaving" popped into my head.
I may have read that entry in the PCCS three months ago, but I have no recollection of the Ouat Caste Dwarves from before now.

If James finds their name annoying (and make no mistake, it is indeed tremendously annoying), how the heck did they end up in the Campaign Setting book? (And please - name names, so we can heckle and mock mercilessly.)
It's amazing the kinds of things you can slip into document management software right before a master release is built.

I'm pretty sure I'm the one responsible for the "pun," but I assure you it was completely coincidental. I did indeed pronounce it "oo-aht" in my head when I came up with it. They are definitely not meant to be "outcasts" or anything, but I admit in hindsight that perhaps the name is a touch on the unfortunate side.

"Ouat caste!"
"What caste?"
"Yes"
"Yes what?"
"Yes, ouat!"
"I don't understand you. I just want to know what caste they belong to."
"Yes, that's right!"
"Right about what?"
"Exactly!"
"I hate you!"
"What?"
"AAAAAARGH!"
Now if they were afflicted with unique lycanthropy that caused them to transform into creatures from Dr. Seuss, they could be Ouat Caste Werewhos.

Er no. I be one of the stout folk meself! So when I say a bald dwarf, I mean one with no beard or lovely body wool!
