Fair Warning: The adventure is tough, and it is undead heavy. There are encounters that don't involve undead, but there are more that do. Take this into account when you make a character. A rogue will be very useful in this adventure, but don't be upset if you don't find a way to deal with the undead (actually I have a class feature for any potential rogues).
My house rules: Any WotC book is allowed, as are most Dragon magazine articles.
The only classes not available are dread necromancer and warlock.
The warmage has a bard's spell progression.
Rogue's gain a free Search check for traps, just like elves do for secret doors.
Mass spells from outside of the PH have a level 4 higher than the base spell.
Heroes' Feast is one level higher.
You can make a 6th level character using the 32 point buy method and you have 13,000 gp in starting gold. Please talk to each other and try to build a cohesive party. Your characters will begin already knowing each other.
Some feats that may help:
ENDURING LIFE
You can ignore the effects of negative levels for a short time.
Benefit: Whenever you would gain a negative level you can ignore the penalties and other ill effects associated with that negative level for a number of minutes equal to your Constitution bonus (if any). You also gain a +4 on Fortitude saves to remove anegative level.
LASTING LIFE
You can shed negative levels with an act of will.
Prerequisites: Endurance, Enduring Life.
Benefit: Once per round, as a standard action, you can attempt to remove a negative level from yourself by attempting a Will save (DC 10 +1/2 attacker's HD + attacker's Cha modifier). If the saving throw succeeds, the negative level goes away. You make a seperate saving throw for each negative level you have gained. If the save fails, you retain the negative level, but you may try again next round to remove it.
And here is a prestige that you can plan for (you don't qualify until you meet a Knight of the Raven in the adventure).
As I mentioned above I will be offering some alternate class features to certain characters as well.

'Wedge, looks like no-one's jumping on the rogue role, so I can try to fill it.
Shamelessly meta-gaiming and begging for charcter generation hints:
- I'm thinking multiclass with ranger or fighter to beef up combat capability. (I figure hitting more often will make up for lack of backstabbing against undead.)
- You said a rogue would be useful to the party. I imagine that's for trap detection/removal and door opening?
- What about that rogue feat you mentioned?
- Any other hints?
Oh. 3.5 right?

3.5 is correct. Trap-finding would be good. I have a class feature that replaces trap sense. To take it though you must be part of an organization called the Light Bringers. Here is the feature, and if you want it, I'll give you more info on the organization.
Penetrating Strike
Creatures immune to sneak attack are a bane to rogues everywhere. Particularly in ancient tombs where undead are common, rogues must rely on their wits to survive. You have spent significant time studying this problem and have learned ways to harm even these resiliant foes.
Level: 3rd.
Replaces: If you select this class feature, you do not gain trap sense.
Benefit: Whenever you flank a creature that is immune to sneak attack damage, you still gain half of your sneak attack dice as bonus damage. Note that this benefit does not extend to creatures that ignore sneak attack damage because you cannot flank them. In addition, you still cannot gain sneak attack damage against such foes if they are flat-footed. You must flank a creature that is immune to sneak attack damage in order to use this ability.

I just made Gaspar Solus, a Cleric of Pelor, that will be prestiging into Radiant Servant of Pelor at next level. I did this when we had a Paladin, a Monk, and a Crusader for Melee, but now it looks like the Crusader might be a Cleric as well. Lets just try not to make duplicate guys. Gaspar is the "bright, shining star" of the local Temple of Pelor, and is being sent along to help determine what is going on.
ghettowedge
I think I might switch to a full time cleric instead of a crusader (I would need to borrow the book from a friend anyway).
Also, which point buy system are we using? Is it in the DMG or PHB?
I think it's in the DMG, and you have 32 points.
As for deities, I think I'll use the Greyhawk ones, but if you have another in mind I'll consider it or find a close substitute.| Aaron Whitley |

In that case I will stick with Crusader and perhaps have him associated with the same church as Gaspar. I'll try to have him up by the end of tomorrow at the latest.

Ghettowedge,
after sober reflection (spurred by the fact that I didn't get my character generated over the weekend) I have to bow out. I was pretty excited about trying Ravenloft, but realistically I'm spending too much time in the ether. I will lurk about occasionally to see how things are going.
Sorry.

OK. I have finished most of Brinmore Kane, Crusader of Pelor. At this point I need to write up his background and double-check all of the numbers. My idea for Brin is that he is an orphan raised in the Temple by priests of Pelor, who is more brawn than brain.

No problem, Tom. I've sent an invite to one of my friends, and if he doesn't respond I'll post again here. The rest of you should finish up your characters and post them into a profile while I begin proofing the ones that are up.

Thanks for being cool about it. Best of luck with the game, Wedge.

I've finished the character, just have to find time to type him in. Hopefully tomorrow, since I have an office day till late. Too bad we can't just add a link to the character on this message board. I did him in Hero Forge, and If I could just link the spreadsheet, life would be much easier... Oh Well...

OK, after reading over the thread again I might make one change to Brinmore so that he can qualify for the KNight of the Raven prestige class. I might have him take a one level did into Cleric in order to meet the spell-casting requirement for the PrC. I'll think this over and will make the update tonight if I decide to.
Edit: Upon a little bit more thinking I don't think I'll change Brinmore. He pretty much works as is and it wouldn't make sense to change him now. I might make his next level a level in cleric and then go for the Knight of the Raven.

I'm still working on my character, who will be ready later this week (I have a test in 2 days). Still here though.
Gaspar Dawnbringer
Well at least I've created the avatar. I have the character done, but I'm too tired tonight to type him in, and I'm having Spellforge issues, so hopefully tomorrow afternoon / evening I'll get Gaspar typed in. NOTE: I change the last name as it was too close to another characters name.

No problem, Larcifer. And no rush on the other characters. French Wolf has commited to the game (probably as a rogue) and I've posted for another player to fill in the arcane spot.
BTW Larcifer, were you looking for a class feature from the Beta to try out, or did you just want to run system. If it's the first, then it might still be a possibility. If not, sorry.

I haven't decided but I will probably play a beguiler. The undead may be a problem but traps and charm will not be.
Plus I intend to max out Use Magic Device so that I can sort of function as a cleric/mage as well.
How does that sound?
If its OK I'll draft it up over the weekend, when the Open Call finishes.
Cheers
ghettowedge
French Wolf, the weekend is fine. A beguiler might run into problems. I think I remember a metamagic feat from the Dragon Compendium that allows enchantment spells to affect intelligent undead and makes the spell 1 level hire. If you don't have the book let me know. And another player signed on, in case you wanted to go another way.

Hello all! Looking forward to a great campaign.
I will be playing a wizard, most likely human or elven.
Are we only using standard PC races?
I will do a little research tonight to figure out my character concept and build and try to complete and post the character by Saturday night. Might be done as early as Friday night, but I have my son this weekend so I may need the extra day.
Probably gonna flip through the Forgotten Realms books tonight, but I did have a question for you Wedge; What would your call be on using prestige classes from the White Wolf Ravenloft materials? I have them all and can provide pdf copies for reference if you need to see the sources. Just let me know when you get a chance and in the mean time I'll work from the WoTC cannon. Thanks
Badslacker
I'm making a wizard - most is done, still need to write down some stuff.
Don't know if 2 wizards are ok, but it's fine by me.
ghettowedge
Wedge, I took your post on the other thread to indicate that you wanted me to build a spellcaster; does that still stand or do you want me to go with the trap rogue? I'm good either way. (Would prefer the trap rogue) Thanks.
It looks like you guys figured out the class situation. I just wanted to make sure the basic roles were covered. While I'm certain that the White Wolf/Sword and Sorcery Ravenloft material fits in with the flavor, I'm skeptical of their mechanics. If you still want something from there post it here or send it to ghettowedge@yahoo.com and I'll have a look.

I've decided on something or someone fairly simple. You will all need to give him orders I reckon because he ain't going to be bright.
Ghetto, unless you have an issue I am building a 2 weapon fighter who can also use a bow, probably a wood elf.
While I have most of the splat books I will probably keep him mostly core. Still thinking about your feats at the top of the thread though.
Cheers

The ale here is stale! Tastes like someone crushed moldy bread into a bucket that goblins had been using to make waste! Let's move onto a better bar or get to work!
Sorry, a backsprain has been preventing me from sitting at the computer long enough to do any significant work. I'll get on it today.
BTW, did you see the rogue class feature above? If you have any interest in it or the organization let me know.
ghettowedge
Gerth -
Str 14 = 6 pts.
Dex 23 - 6 racial = 17 = 13 pts.
Con 14 = 6 pts.
Int 13 + 2 racial = 15 = 8 pts.
Wis 16 - 2 racial = 14 = 6 pts.
Cha 11 = 3 pts.
So, let's say you put your +1 at 4th level into Dex. That makes it a 16, which still costs 10 points. That still puts the total at 39. Can you fix it for me?
Also, I noticed that you didn't have any gold. You should still have around 180 gp, if you want it.

Ghettowedge:
Just noticed that I couldn't have a dwarven waraxe as a rogue without a martial weapon prof feat so I swapped it for a short sword and took a refund of 2 pp to cover the price difference.
Also, I assumed max hitpoints for first level and rolls for the rest. If this is inaccurate or you would like us to provide rolls from invisible castle or the like, please let me know. Finally, I think the options you mentioned above looked cool, but I am not going to take advantage of them this time. Thanks.
