TBH I never get to play high level wizards or sorcerers but on reading much of the fighter v wizard, wizard v cleric, wizard v... I wondered if anyone had tried slowing the spell progression down a bit to balance spell casters to 'brutes'.
1 lvl = 1st lvl spells
2 lvl = 1st lvl spells
3 lvl = 1st lvl spells
4 lvl = 2nd lvl spells
5 lvl = 2nd lvl spells
6 lvl = 2nd lvl spells
7 lvl = 3rd lvl spells...
or may be give them the same progresssion as sorcerer are now?

An interesting thought.. but I am afraid this is a sacred cow that we will be keeping nice and healthy.

Too bad. This was actually a suggestion (or something very similar) I was planning to post back in the Divine Playtest period, but I got entirely too preoccupied with the paladin discussion and forgot all about it.
A reduction in total spell slots per day for all of the casting classes would do a goodly amount to redress the balance of power issues between casters and noncasters, IF spellcasters have some meaningfully useful at-will stuff they can do as well, which PF has already started working towards incorporating with sorcerer bloodlines, cleric domains, wizard schools, etc.
But, if it's pretty much of a dead issue then I'll not put too much further thoughtification into arguing the point... :)
