A few spells to add to the ranger spell list

Similar to what I mentioned over on the paladin side, if we want to make the ranger's spellcasting a bit more legit as a class ability, to move it from a forgotten corner of their utility belt up towards something that would see more use, we might add a few more rangery spells to their list, things that would help them sneak about and be awesome. To wit, a few suggestions:

1. Movement

1st - expeditious retreat
2nd - spider climb
3rd - haste
4th - air walk

2. Combat

1st - faerie fire, true strike
2nd - protection from arrows
3rd - beast shape I, keen edge
4th - beast shape II

3. Utility

1st - animal trance, animate rope, feather fall
2nd - fog cloud, whispering wind
3rd - tiny hut, water breathing
4th - secure shelter, solid fog

And, if you want a little throwback to 1st Ed, you could add in this:

4. Information-gathering

1st -
2nd - see invisibility

3rd - clairaudience/clairvoyance
4th - prying eyes, scrying

Anyway, I think any of these might be fine additions to the ranger's spell list.

Thoughts?

We talked about this before. These are good themed spells. I would suggest that many of these spells could be moved down a level lower since the ranger gets so few spells so late in the game. They don't get 2nd level spells until 8th level and they should get spells which will appropriate for that level. I would suggest moving almost half of the spells you list down a level.

So I would rework your list as follows (plus there are some other spells on my list elsewhere):
1. Movement

1st - expeditious retreat, spider climb
2nd -
3rd - haste
4th - air walk

2. Combat

1st - faerie fire, true strike (4th level)
2nd - beast shape I, protection from arrows (8th level)
3rd - beast shape II, keen edge (12th level)
4th - beast shape III (16th level)
Note: You list the beast shape spells under combat but getting Beast Shape I at 12th level is almost worthless for any combat role. Even getting it at 8th level is questionable for combat purposes but it makes for a nice utility function which is more where I see these spells for the ranger.

3. Utility

1st - animal trance, animate rope, fog cloud, feather fall, whispering wind
2nd - tiny hut, water breathing
3rd - secure shelter
4th - solid fog

4. Information-gathering

1st -
2nd - see invisibility

3rd - clairaudience/clairvoyance
4th - prying eyes, scrying

One small but significant change in PF is the rate at which rangers and paladins get their spells. It's not 4th, 8th, 12th, and 16th any more.

It's 4th, 7th, 10th, and 13th.

Also, they get far more spells per day than they did in 3.5 (almost double).

Ummm... D'oh. I wish there was a change guide that I could refer to because sometimes I just assume it's the same and if I don't have the beta actually in front of me it trips me up (Because the darned D20SRD.org is so easy to refer to I gotta excise those links).

I still think many of them can be moved down... probably not quite all of them though.
