An idea on Paladins.

Classes: Cleric, Druid, and Paladin

I know people have been scratching their heads over the paladin's lay on hands ability, and I have been too. I had a thought on it tonight.

Let's get rid of Lay on Hands and instead allow the paladin to choose one of the following domains:

Good
Lawful
Nobility
Protection
Healing
Community
Glory

This would have the effect of giving the paladin more options, and if they choose Healing then they can still have something much like the old Lay on Hands ability, while still giving them scaling powers that are useful. If the paladin chooses a different domain they can still stay in theme and have useful scaling abilities.

Thoughts/Ideas/suggestions?

Honestly, no thank you, I appreciate the suggestion and even understand it. but if you do that then the paladin feels even less like its own class and more like a cleric/fighter multiclass. It would work (would the domains be subject to the same half-cleric level crud that the spellcasting is under?) for your intent. I just don't like it for the cleric-light feel of it.

I was thinking that it would be based off of class level, not the 1/2 stuff they did to the spells (so a 6th level paladin with the healing domain would have Cure Light Wounds 3/day, Lesser Restoration 1/day, or an 8th level paladin with the Protection domain would have sanctuary 4/day, Shield other 1/day and aura of protection 8 Rounds/day).

My thought was this could give everyone everything they wanted off the paladin, just not all at once. Also it would give paladin's some more variety without "cheapening" any of the other classes.
