Druids and Paladins - Animal Companions and Special Mounts

Classes: Cleric, Druid, and Paladin

Something I would bring up now, and suggest as it affects Animal Companions, Special Mounts (and Familiars).

First and foremost, I would recommend that it be clarified somewhere in the Pathfinder rules that critters attached to the character go on the same initiative. Our group has run critters on separate and same initiative marks, and inevitably, they have the critter delay to their initiative to go with them. It would be simpler to simply adjucate this in the interests of faster and smoother play.

Secondly, missing from Pathfinder (and the SRD) is the concept of advanced creatures (unicorns, pegasi, dragons, and the like) being used as special mounts. Would this be a good time to point this out, and suggest it be addressed?

I think now is an excellent time to point this out and suggest that it be addressed. There are mechanics in the 3.5 DMG regarding this, but I must admit that it would be good to see some confirmation that they will be retained or improved.

The idea seems compelling to me since the times of Defenders of the Faith. If someone of the cast team came and said "oh, we'll take a look at it, but beware that having a dragon as mount is not easy" would be great.

If Paladins can't end up with a dragon as a mount by high levels, there's something wrong. It should be written in as a class feature.

Perhaps the Pathfinder designers will include some new draconic mounts for Paladins to have as mounts in the new monster book? Most of the True Dragons are too small to ride except at the very highest levels of play...
