I feel the obligation to have a weekly poll, probably involving disagreements, caps lock, poodles, etc.

PS: Thanks Jal.

First question to be debated until next Friday:

What levels would you give America, using 3.5E?

Barbarian:
Bard:
Cleric:
Druid:
Fighter:
Monk:
Paladin:
Ranger:
Rogue:
Sorceror:
Wizard:

Scarab Sages

Level 10 Elf. :)

Appropriately, first in. Hope you can keep it going, PMGII!

I thought of a non-controversial response.

There's one in every crowd...

EDIT: Wait, I know...if we are going to add in race, are we going only with core races, or can we bring in Spriggan?

So, extremely full of itself, believes it's god's chosen, assumes it has the right to "smite evil" where ever it sees fit, "holier than thou" attitude... yeah, I can see how Paladin 20 would fit. ;-)

You gotta give the U.S. some credit. We protect Europe from the bad guys and you guys don't have to spend that much on national defense. That way you socialists can blow your budgets on social programs that you love so dearly. So cut us some slack, huh?

America is the epic multiclass.

We got many levels of Cleric, many levels of Druid, many levels of Fighter, many levels of Ranger, many levels of Rogue, many levels of Bard and quite a few levels of Monk.

Not so much with the Barbarians or Sorcerers and I don't think we've had much in the way of Wizard levels since Tesla died.

I'd add at least one level of expert. Maybe more.

Pray tell which "bad guys" you are protecting us from at the moment?

Personally I think we're spending way too much on national defense, the days of retaliation from our brothers just to the north and east are long gone (and we actually used to attack them instead) and the Germans down south are much more interested in making expensive cars. Are you talking about cheap labour from e.g. Poland? There are a lot of those up here, but I don't think our armed forces are that concerned about them.
And boy, you really have a problem with anything you can call "socialist."
Well, all of our "social programs" have led Europe to have much higher standards in a lot of areas.
Also, please notice the ";-)" smiley at the end of my first post, it was mostly done tongue-in-cheek. No reason to get all riled up. :-)

Not a worry, I'm not riled up or mad. I apologize if I sounded that way.Have you heard of Russia or China? If it wasn't for the U.S. they would roll over you guys in a heartbeat. If you don't believe that you're being naive.

Garydee:
The Chinese aren't exactly well positioned geographically to invade Europe with any military force; now with cheap imports on the other hand....
The Russians I would have made some quip about being more of a threat by turning off their gas-supplies, until recently, but their tit-for-tat retaliation in Georgia, 'because Nato intervened in Kosovo' leaves me in more doubt regarding them.

Lets not turn this thread into a battle. Take your international relations somewhere else.

Oh, btw, how could America be a paladin. If anything close to that it would be a Gray Guard. Paladins have a strict CODE OF CONDUCT, which America seems to have forgotten recently. Yes we protect people, and many recent politicians consider themselves crusaders for God, but what about all the lies and scandals America has recently produced?

Gray Guard: 4
Rogue: 3
Fighter: 7
Expert: 2

But despite my opinion, I like Shiny's the best:

Commoner: 15
Aristocrat: 5

First question to be debated until next Friday:

What levels would you give America, using 3.5E?

Barbarian:

Bard: 4 (Hollywood and the music industry does provide quite a bit of entertainment)
Cleric: 7 (with all the churches on almost every street corner - although IMO the Heathen Clerics from Dragonlance would be a perfect fit)
Druid: 1 (on behalf of all the "treehuggers" and wacky P.E.T.A. people)
Fighter: 10 (I think that's self explanatory)
Monk:
Paladin:
Ranger:
Rogue: 3 (with all the wiretapping, CIA clandestine operations and other covert operations in general)
Sorcerer:
Wizard: 5 (this is sort of a combo with the Fighter levels, I'm thinking pure firepower and nuclear armaments - high tech vs. low tech is why it's wizard and not sorcerer)

Oh and race: Human
Very, very much Human.

I agree with the spending too much on national defense. Hopefully the US can shake out of this recent financial mess and start thinking seriously of cutting a few of the apron strings around the world. No one likes America playing policeman, I think it is time to let some of these UN police efforts/foreign intervention/aid programs go by the wayside.

Russia seems to be interested in taking a more active role in European/Asian geopolitics, I say go ahead, have fun.

China seems happy to mess around in Africa, I say welcome to it guys, good luck.

Iraq wants us gone, let's march on outta there. Iran wants to play big dog in the yard? Heck, let them. I'm sure al-Qaeda will be happy to switch targets to Teheran (after all they are Shiites in Iran, with most other ME countries Sunni and you think Christianity has factions that hate each other? )

Let's cut out ALL our foreign interventionalist crap. And yes, that INCLUDES the former Yugoslavia and any Darfur thing people might be whinging about. No US involvement means NO US INVOLVEMENT. Not just in issues some folks find offensive. I think foreign aid has to go bye bye as well, charity begins at the home right? We've got plenty of nukes, I don't think we need to worry about invasion, so let's stop playing policeman/welfare office/Big Meanie to the world. Let's sort our own messes out first.

Take all that money we save, reinvigorate NASA, lay a claim on some nice asteroids with lots of metals on them, build a chain of SPS powersats and we can let everyone else do their own thang.

Given our current political situation, I would say:

10 wizard / 10 barbarian....

And somehow our wisdom score got dropped to 1.

I have to agree with you on that. But depending on the election, we may multiclass.

Our charisma must be high, unless politicians are getting 20's on thier bluff checks.

Alright, Poll #2, ready for action:

After seeing the crazy changes in 4E, what will be in DnD 5E?

-Levels up to 50
-Uranium Dragons
-Halflings no longer a race, instead minotaur
-Fighter no longer a class, instead cop
-Rounds are broken into 1 second intervals in which a super-minor action may be preformed:
like moving half a square, yellling, beginning a check, finishing a check, or attacking a Uranium Dragon with your Minotaur Cop/50 Warlord/10

Ability scores will no longer exist, nor will levels - everything will be allocated skill points.

No hit points, hit locations will be determined by roll and that body part will have to make a save against trauma. Failure means injury (or death).

No more alignments. Characters with religious beliefs tied to their powers will be audited by the DM at the end of every session. For everyone else, it doesn't matter. There will be no more good/evil/lawful/chaotic spell-effects.

Arcane casters will accumulate Insanity points for casting spells too often. Rest removes some of these on a daily basis.

Rogues will be able to levitate, turn invisible, and dimension door at will and their saliva will become deadly poison at higher levels.

Fighters will become a permanent NPC class. Players must choose Ranger, Paladin, or Warlord.

The Exchange

isnt that the cyberpunk rules?

You no longer need to make a character. A starter set contains a ton of dice. You get together with your friends and just roll.

Nono. I think the next edition will just be a bottle opener, music CDs, a little noise maker and a movie. then, everyone sits down to play and just gives into the distractions all night while making jokes about Gnomes and Marsupials. At this point of course, the Gnome will have been addded back in since no one things half-orcs and marsupials are funny.

I love marsupials.

Scarab Sages

You will no longer require a character sheet. When you make a character, you will select a series of options from the online database. Once you are done, you submit your character to a processor. You then copy the one-word result onto a piece of paper. The possible results are "GOOD" and "FAIL". If you have a "GOOD" character, you can do anything you want - even treat other players like garbage (even if they also have "GOOD" character). If you have a "FAIL" character, you are charged $5 for being stupid and not knowing how to make a "GOOD" character. You then show the receipt to the DM and sit in the corner playing Mortal Kombat until the session is over.

lol

ps: Jal, I love the new alias, the green guy is so... BOLD!

That made me spit Canada Dry over my desk. It also seems eerily possible...although my personal houserule for it would be that "FAIL" characters get to play too, so long as they can keep the "GOOD" characters amused with their antics.

Ha. Keep them as long as they entertain. Reminds me of jesters.

Why go through the effort, just have the DM call once a week to let the players know if their characters survived.

Well since the new owners of D&D will be Paizo (being a publicly traded company like Hasbro really sucks when the stockmarket crash of 2009 is followed by those of 2010 and of 2011) after Lisa Stevens bought Hasbro with loose change from the Paizo office pizza kitty, 5th Edition D&D will be accompanied by some shakeups. The Forgotten Realms setting will go, and much to his relief Rich Baker will be put back to work writing adventure modules, in the style of his 'Prison of the Firebringer' from the days of Dungeon magazine. Mike Mearls will be the office jester, occasionally producing quirky adventures such as the acclaimed 'Murder in Westcrown'. There will be a teamup between Logue, Pett, and Mearls for one series of modules, but the 'director's cut' version will be banned from the internet after two days, twenty three hours, following half a dozen groups of players going insane in a series of incidents around the globe, burbling: 'Ia, Cthulhu, Cthulhu Ftaghn!'

For those not interested in quite the level of grittiness of Golarion, Greyhawk will get more love and attention, and the remaining levels of 'Maure Castle' will be supplied.
It will be noted that the number of 'updates' for the first impression of 5th edition are stunningly low as compared to the early days of 4E.
The playtest for 5th Edition will have been the biggest event ever to hit the internet in its history, and the PostMonster General of the Paizo boards will need every one of his half a dozen underlings to be able to keep the servers running and communications flowing under the strain, although the messageboard bug will continue to occasionally chomp posts, or posts will mysteriously disappear for a quarter of an hour after posting.

I didn't know Paizo was going to own DnD! Never mind about what I said before! it'll be sick! Ahem.. must control myself. Minimum emotion... awesome update, thanks charlie
