Propose your rules for Pathfinder Chess here.

Liberty's Edge

The knight should get to make "two" of them L's a round. They're totally pwned by queens, bishops, and rooks as it is.
The king should also get a death attack once per game, where every piece he threatens dies.

Liberty's Edge

I also want tiny hologram or robots of some sort, or maybe sea monkeys, that have to duke it out to own a square. That would be more realistic.

The King can step off the edge of the board and wrap around to the other side if he wants to, during his turn.

Sovereign Court

I want a teleporting wizard.

The bishop needs to get some serious healing powers. The queen can move in any direction and the knight can teleport so the bishop is just kind of "Oh, look at me, I'm a goin' diagonally!". BLeh.

Proposed rule: Any allied piece adjacent to the bishop cannot be killed by a piece with fewer hit die.

Hit die:
Queen 9
Rook 5
Bishop 4
Knight 3
Pawn 1

Liberty's Edge

Pawns should get to pick pockets.

Black and White should mean something. I want alignment-based powers.

When a pawn attacks he rolls 5d6, the defender rolls 2d6. Who ever has the SINGLE highest d6 wins!!

Ties are just that. Nothing happens, get over it, the next player now moves.

I like this and would suggest one modification, if the bishop is currently 'under attack' this power can not be used.

Liberty's Edge

Okay, lets do this:

a queen, then a knight vs.

1)that 12 year old Icelandic Grandmaster with a tarrasque
2)an inmate chess master with 5 gelugons
3)some 75 year-old at the park with a 20th level kobold monk

Scarab Sages

I want knights to move like Queens.

No pun intended.

Lets add Blackhawk helicopters. Once, or twice a game you can quick-drop in four pawns, anywhere on the board, into four connected squares.

Anyone else played this?

Apologies for asking a serious question, but I own this and it's pretty wild fun. Thought I would see if anyone else has.

If the King is killed, and your side has at least one Knight still in play, that Knight gets crowned and becomes a new king.

Play on!

I have not played it, but I would.

I have not played it, but I would.

I like to bring it to company functions. People's reactions are awesome.

Gee, this feels like having tea in the middle of a firefight, talking normally in this thread.

I played a three-way chess game; some dude made the board.

Then I asked to copy his board, and he got all paranoid like I'd try to gank his idea.
The problem was the two of them went after eachother, so I let them jack eachother up and acted stupid, then I jacked them both to the wall when I saw that they had less than a full range of pieces.

Anyone who has watched Aliens, or read James Jacobs' Dragon article about Malcanthet knows what Queens do. Whenever a Queen takes a piece from the other side, she should be able to replace it with one from her own side on a square next to her.

Liberty's Edge

I'd like to see Paizo's take on the Rook. Currently, its abilities do not match the artwork.

I liked the Titus Pollo/Queen Cleopatra scene in Rome the best.

Scarab Sages

I think Paizo Chess needs to continue the traditions of olde chess. Get rid of newer innovations that confuse new players, like en passant. Replace it with a simpler ability like "a pawn takes any piece that enters a square it threatens".

Laughing out loud... :D

Ahem.

Sovereign Court

I remember playing a friend in that multi-level Star Trek chess, it was kinda cool.

The Exchange

Kriegspiel Chess: The Player sees only their pieces and rival Pieces that threaten their pieces with the next move, and rival pieces that move into range of the player's pieces.

Its the invisible board.

"We cannot fight something we cannot see!"

Lets add some Chaos into this game that is obviously a love fest for the forces of Law:

  • Each turn roll a d10. If it is 9 or higher, roll 2d8.

  • The first d8 is a the row number, the second d8 is the column number. That square disappears, any piece on it is eliminated. Player pieces may not move over or onto the missing square.

  • If there is already a square missing from a previous roll, it re-appears and is available for play.

  • Scarab Sages

  • Oddly enough, this actually sounds like fun. now I want to try it.

Personally, I'm still trying to get someone to try Dragon Chess with me.
