Angvar just isn't cut out for life is he?
I feel bad that you got stuck with such a dud for a character! He's really quite hopeless, isn't he?
It occurs to me that the Hand of the Acolyte (and the various other 1st level Specialist SLAs) is a spell-like ability, not a spell.
A 1st level Wizard could probably get away with wearing a chain shirt and / or carrying a buckler, lack-of-armor-proficiency be damned, and live off of the SLA (and / or free cantrips) for combat use, taking for his prepared spells stuff like identify (long casting spells that he can take his chain off before casting), long duration spells he can precast like mount or unseen servant, or spells with no Somatic components, like feather fall and true strike.
Combined with the Human free weapon prof (go, go Longsword), and an Int of 16 or 18, a 1st level Wizard could just prepare a couple of true strike spells and coast through the first level or two.
*If* I ever get around to playing a Sorcerer or Wizard in Pathfinder, I think he's gonna be armored, and have Toughness as a starting feat...

Actually, in Pathfinder, Identify is only a standard action to cast. It works like an upgraded Detect Magic now, giving you a bonus (+10) on your appraise check to identify an item.
The Hand of the Apprentice (or acolyte) is a good power indeed. Your build makes sense for sure. Even better, create an Elf for the +2INT bonus and free weapon proficiency. It certainly fits in with the theme of all elves being proficient with the things (one way or another).
"Ha, look at the puny wizard and his big sword. He can barely hold it. What are you gonna do with that, lil' fella?"
"Mind blade!"
"*bleed*"
Pathfinder certainly offers some interesting melee options for the arcane casters. A number of the bloodlines have neat combat abilities; draconic first and foremost is a hearty build from the start.

Don't feel bad. It's entertaining trying to work with him since he's such an arrogant eejit and so easy to kill. Although a lot of my pcs are very vulnerable, most of them have a better sense of self-preservation or at the very least some clue that strategic retreat is a viable option. Angvar really doesn't. I'd never build him, but he's fun to play.

Blue Mushrooms;
This mushroom dries up easily, and crumbles into a fine powder that can be inhaled. A dose of this powder imbues the user with a sense of sharp clarity. It is a hallucinogen that activates the mind, while diminishing the body.
Effect: +2 Alchemical bonus to Intelligence and Charisma for 1 hour. Inflicts 1 point of Strength damage. The user takes a -2 penalty to Wisdom for 1d4 hours, and a -2 penalty to Strength and Constitution for 2d4 hours.

And Set, thanks for all the Traits on the other thread.
You're welcome! I brought the Second Darkness players thingie and Elves of Golarion in to work today, in case any more questions cropped up, and now I'm wondering about Golarion-specific feats, which would be in the books I *didn't* bring.
Grr. I need my entire gaming collection backed up on a flash drive.
Of course, any flash drive capable of storing my gaming collection would probably attain sentience and start Judgement Day, so what can ya do?

Bexy's Midnight Runners?
Gosh, that was bad, even for me...
Come on Eileen... :)
xdahnx/everyone,
I'm leaving this weekend to spend the holidays with my family in the US, where unfortunately, my internet access is dial-up and spotty at best, so I'll be out of the game for about 2 weeks, until Jan. 5 or so. Please DMPC Bex as needed.
Everyone, have a Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! :)

Goin' nowhere also. Our receptionist (I think they call them 'office managers' now or something) is out for two weeks, and since I'm the low man on the totem pole, I get to man the phone for these two weeks. Fortunately, I don't have to wear the dress.
It's kind of eye-opening how many $75,000+ a year software engineers have no freaking clue how to work a fax machine...

Eep, well I didn't think I was going anywhere either...
But now Crash-mas is here, and I'm busier than anticipated. I'm travelling all around, and I didn't intend to, so I won't be able to update for several days! I'll let you know as soon as I get back!
Blame my family! No fun!

Set/Dahn
Dahn knows about this bit of dottiness as it's a thought I came up with for Angvar fairly early on. It is dependent on us being able to find a sensible way of working the mechanics and not turning it into a game breaker. Angvar's cunning plan is to turn Mordecai into his familiar.
This follows on from Mordecai's original plan to put Angvar under a curse to ensure he stayed around and reasonably loyal. I think that Iskish will need to be found first and freed from the bond so it can be transferred to Mordecai at the very least, but see what you think.
As I said, this is just nutso speculation and completely open to be squelched or fiddled with as an idea.

DM Xdahnx/Set/Rev
Well given his past history as a living vessel and his more recent exploits as 'Mordecai Snakesbane', if perhaps in the proposed ritual our palid priest were to devour the still living Iskish, I think that he would do both his former vampiric mistress and gluttonous deity proud.
I'm not a football fan but I got a LOT of money on them so, GO GATORS !

![]() |

Yes, Urgathoa would be pleased.
And there are some unique qualities of the familiar-ship that will affect you. Mordecai isn't going to get the Nat. Armour increases, or the intelligence, or Evasion, etc, but the Empathic Link alone should be worth it.
I'm also willing to allow 'Share Spells', as the Pathfinder version of that ability is a little underpowered compared to what it was. (Now, you would be able to cast spells that have a target of 'personal' or 'self' on Mordecai. And vice versa. Useful for spells like 'shield' or 'disguise self', in a pinch!)

![]() |

Angvar is a level 2 idiot with level 10 getting killed skills.
Well yeah, but Mordecai is a level 1 idiot with level 10 'push Angvar between himself and danger' skills, so he's hardly a titan...
Given how much damage Angvar has sponged up so far (damage that could have happened to Mordecai instead), sparing Angvar's life is probably the best investment into his own survival that Mordecai could have made!
He might make Mordecai his Familiar, but Mordecai's been using him as a Ring of Protection, so I guess it balances out. :)

Yikes, I'll certainly start a list for alternates, but they'll be Ultra-alternates at this point...
Ok guys, I really hate to do this. My life is slightly impossible right now, and I can't have the PBPs looming over my head. I thought I could keep these going, but evidently it's too much. I can't find the time to update, and I'm running around as it is!
But I really love this game, and you guys, and I don't want to throw it away. I can foresee a time in the future where I'll have some time to myself again, however.
So what I would like to propose is a suspension of indeterminate length of this game. I still have lots of ideas, plans, and schemes for you, but I don't have the time to bust them out now.
I'll understand if you're done with the game at this point, but if you're around, I'll be sure to give you all a heads-up when I start it again!
I just want to make it clear that it has nothing to do with any of you; you're awesome, I'm not. This is the sound of the ball dropping.
Sorry Rev, you'll see this message twice.

Ozbadin |

Ozbadin will be happy making the lives of the uneducated and unlucky miserable till you return. It doesn't look like the blot is going anywhere, anytime soon. Hope things clear up for you soon.

Sorry to hear it man, hopefully the busy-busy involves some sort of gainful employment, at least!
Get the important RL stuff in order and don't sweat the small stuff. It's been an awesome run and thanks for running it!

*YAWN!*
Whoa! That was a long nap! Feels pretty good to be up and stretching my bones!
*CRACK*
Err...Well, I'm back, at any rate. (haw haw)
Now seriously folks; we left this game on pause as a 'just in case' I came back and had some time to run the game again. Well, consider this the official "I'm back and if you are too, I have all my old notes and maps still and I'd like to press 'play' again" post!
I'm going to post it here and in the game threads, give me a shout if you'd like to start it up again. We'll gauge interest, and if you people are still around, we'll go from there!

Nice! I have something to read again!
Just FYI, I'm still up as an alt. In case you need one.

Yes, life has kinda sorted itself out, in that whole 'getting full' kinda way. I went 'back to school', got a full time job, and started DJing more regularly. Oh, and I have two dogs now, and run a second film society. And I finally got a good gaming group together for tabletop sessions; that inspired me to dust off these pbps. Hell, if I can squeeze in time for one game, I must be able to re-start my other three...
So! I'm eager to start this game up, and I'm glad you've got a little fire in your bellies too. As I mentioned in the game thread, there's technically three open slots for the game. There could be more, or less, depending on interest. Either way, I will run the other characters until they die, or it makes sense for them to part.
Baron, Kobold Cleaver, and Nathan; thanks for waiting so long to join up with this game. You're welcome to play any kind of character you'd like, using Pathfinder rules. Or, as I said, take one of the pre-existing characters. What did you have in mind?
(The rest of you, if anything has changed, rules-wise, since we last played, feel free to adjust your character)

Hmm...well, on the one hand, a kobold could be neat...on the other, I always play kobolds...hmm...how about a goblin spirit shaman?

Kobold Catgirl |

Just posted on the game thread - if Loops goes west and nobody else wants to keep Angvar the danger-magnet going, I'll take him on again. He's become a kind of challenge. As in, is it actually possible for this character to stay out of negative hp for a whole 24 hours.
Hmm...perhaps my character should start up a rivalry with Angvar...to keep him in negatives.

Spirit Shaman would be fine, if you'd like to do the necessary conversions, and if you don't think it's too underpowered considering the changes since Pathfinder.
Additionally, the Goblin thing is a bit of a handicap, especially considering the tribal qualities of the spirit shaman. What tribe are you associated with? Why are you separate from it? What brings you to Riddleport? Who do you have contacts with in this town? Where are you staying, etc etc.
A Goblin/Kobold Spirit Shaman would be fine with me if you can somehow make it work!
Rev
Don't feel obligated to take on Angvar; I know you've got a lot on your plate right now. You certainly played him well, however, and it does seem that Strange Loops isn't going to start up again (esp. considering the original loss of the twins. Oh well).
