Why Hillary Supporters Won't Vote for McCain / Palin IMHO

Off-Topic Discussions

In 1998, John McCain told the following nasty joke at a Senate fundraiser. I can't imagine any Hillary supporters voting for McCain/Palin if they know about it. I warn you that it is so mean that most media outlets refused to print it.

Spoiler:
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno."

For verification (and to read about why the joke hasn't been given more media play), see the salon.com story here: http://www.salon.com/news/1998/06/25newsb.html

A joke from a decade ago will stop them?

This might be my wacky canadian sensibilities, but I'd vote for one side or the other based on my local candidate and then the party's stance on the issues...Not a dug up scandal from ten years ago.

Perhaps Clinton supporters are different.

How about a scandal that's unfolding right now?

Now that's some sweet muckraking!

Wow, now that beats the heck out of my joke as potential bad news for the McCain/Palin campaign.

Liberty's Edge

You've got to be kidding me. No-one really believes this rubbish, right?

Liberty's Edge

I don't believe it. I think somebody watched Rome a few too many times.

Not at all. And Larry Craig was minding his own business in that bathroom stall.

It looks like tabloid trash to me - but I don't have a horse in this race.

As the Republican party has co-opted God for their own purposes, it makes sense that He's supplying them with miraculous births.

Getting arrested and charged and pleading guilty is a leeetle bit different from having a photo montage posted up on dailykos with an accompanying diatribe.

I think they'd get more mileage out of the "shootin' critters outta helichoppers" angle, but.....that's just me.

As someone who would have voted for Clinton over McCain any day of the week, I have to say "who cares?" Hopefully this hasn't been given media play simply because there is no story here.

You can also get permission to do some crazy stuff to animals for 'science'.

I got to bomb up and down rapids at night and do some gill netting in the grand canyon to kill nuisance trout and tag endangered fish.

Nuisance wolves? Lotta ranchers in the area?

You.....you....barbarians!

I'm walking along, minding my own business, shlepping down to vote for McCain, and this beauty queen in a helichopper's breaking bad with a 30-06! AAAAAAAAH!

It seems more like what I would see in a television drama than what I would actually see during a political campaign. I don't really trust that article to be objective nor completely accurate.

Not that I would dismiss it as, "it could in no way be true." I just don't trust this article's presentation.

No, but Alaska is representative of WotC's 'Points of Light'--my hometown is literally surrounded by hundreds of miles of wilderness.

I don't really think Hillary supporters are going to vote for Obama or McCain based on McCain's joke about Hillary and Chelsea, but I do think that the joke was in terrible taste. If I was Chelsea's dad, I would have a hard time with John McCain no matter what he said in his apology. I just find it funny that McCain is now trying to court Hillary voters and to position his campaign as the one to vote for if you want to break down the gender barrier when the "original maverick" had ridiculed the innocent daughter of the President in order to get more money out of his donors.

I was just joking about the wolves anyway.

I saw a damn coyote in town the other night. Place is going to the dogs.

Hmmm got a darkmoon vale thing going on with the wolves then?

Personally I like the pack who's territory overlaps the camp where I've been working summers. They scare the crap out of the cows the ranchers dump in the woods (keep them out of the area and not destroying our field site) and don't bother us. It's the bears that are the worry.

Back on topic:
If the scandalous allegations are true, it would reflect negatively on her character if she had fabricated her own pregnancy. That's a little too crazy to be vp.
But it sounds bogus. Hopefully it gets cleared up and shut down tommorow.

You know, contrary to the movie and graphic novel (which I really enjoyed both), Barrow has in excess of a 4000-person population, doesn't empty out at winter, and has 66 days of darkness.

The Daily Kos is about as reliable a news source as my blog is. Sure it is an entertaining read, but it makes no bones about wanting Obama to win, and will spin just about anything to do so. They aren't making things up, just manipulating how things are presented to create their desired outcome. Of course if you have taken a class on media and politics, you learn that all media outlest do that through the process of agenda setting and gatekeeping. Based on what I have read from sources like CNN and MSNBC, even the Democrat overseeing the investigation is pretty close to convinced that there is nothing there.

Ok this is priceless, true or not. This is the stuff real drama is made of.

To hell with VP, I want her to be president.

Well, it seems in the news outlets, Obama's speech was trumped by Mccain's VP nomination only to be trumped by hurricane Gustav. Can we vote for Hurricanes/Tropical storms?

It wouldn't be an issue if she wasn't constantly waving the baby around talking about how great a person she was for not having an abortion. If she wants to exploit the little kid for political gain, you should expct some blowback.

Anyway, as amusing as the baby speculations are (and they are hardly a left-wing blog phenomenon - check this out), Palin has several other problems. This guy has the best rundown of her opportunities and challenges.

The whole blog thing is another left wing conspiracy thing. And aliens were in cahoots with the US Government to blow up the World Trade Center.

just for the record, the hillary44 website seems to think mccain's choice was quite astute, and probably WILL draw a lot of women away from obama amongst hillary supporters, many of whom really dislike the way obama's staff treated hill.

just saying.

oh, and the daily kos may be one of the most virulently NASTY sites on the web. their posters would turn me off a dem canditate if JC himself ran on the donkey ticket.

Even if it were true, who wouldn't support her for firing a guy who says that he can only give her ex brother in law a five day susspension for violating a protective order, threatening to kill his then father in law, tasering an 11 year old kid (even if he did ask for it) and poaching, all while hiding behind the shield of a state trooper. Here where I live just one of those actions would have gotten him thrown in jail. In fact just last week a guy in my neighborhood did get arrested for violating a P.O. I say if she did do it, she should say she did it, because it would most likely help rather than hurt her campaign.

Yeah; I kinda looked that up on Wikipedia. Watching the movie, I was wondering where the Native Americans were in all this; the town seemed to be skewed towards an inordinate WASP representation. Whenever a movie is based on a premise or a gimmick, I like to know how much artistic license they took with it, how much they could get away with.

A lot of license in this movie; and unless you're from Alaska (or a curious, look-it-up type), you'd probably never know... My biggest disappointment in both the movie and the GN is that there's no sense of time. The story takes place over an entire month, but the movie feels like a single night. Not a loooonnnnggg Alaska night, but a normal, Lower 48 night. If you read the comics as they came out, you get a completely different feel for the story, versus reading the GN or watching the movie.

Hiliary supporters won't vote for Palin for the following reasons:

1) Palin is pro-life and wants to make all abortions illegal.
2) Palin has zero experience. Being the governor of Alaska does not make you qualified to be vice-president, or President if McCain gets cancer again. It makes you qualified to be the governor of Alaska.
3) Palin does not believe in providing sex education in public schools. She believes that students should learn about sex on their own, like her pregnant, 17 year old daughter.
4) Palin is too pretty to be vice-president. Once again, if the 72 year old McCain gets cancer again, she will become president, and no one at the capital and Pentagon will be able to take her seriously.

There are a lot of pro-life people who do not want to see abortion illegal. Just because Palin is pro-life does not mean she wants abortion outlawed.

Obama has no experience either and he is running for president, she is just running for vice-president.

So her daughter is pregnant? Lots of teenage girls end up pregnant, with or with out sex education classes. At least Sarah Palin views a baby as a gift and not a punishment. If schools in Alaska had been allowed to teach that abstinence is the only form of birth control that works 100% of the time, she might not be pregnant today.

Leafar the Lost wrote:

That seems like a sexist and irresponsible comment to make. Are you saying that only ugly women should be allowed in politics? If that is the case, then maybe Obama is too trim and handsome to be president, and we should elect McCain because of his ruggedly horrible looks.

And yet that governor-ship is the ONLY executive branch experience on either side. I would think that makes her more qualified than anyone else on the ticket.
