Tough game for the Pats this Sunday, I knew the Giants would play them tough and I was expecting a loss there so pleasantly surprised they won. Fully expecting a big push by the Bills this weekend but able to win. It is next weekend the Patriots undefeated season ends with a loss at Denver.
The loss of Edelman is going to hurt on top of Dion Lewis. I like Danny Amendola just not sure he will hold up physically with no Edelman.
I hope that WR Aaron Dobson takes advantage of this opportunity given to him and steps up to take some of the pressure off the other TEs and WRs on the team. We shall see.
I had not heard Grantland came down but it does not surprise me with the firing of Bill Simmons. I look forward to seeing his stuff on HBO.
Was anyone else surprised by the Bengals loss this Monday? I was not I did not see them as the real deal.

I doubt the Broncos will beat the Pats, Peyton, sadly is done for good I suspect, by that I mean, even if he plays, he's still not the same Manning we all know and loved watching.

Well from what I have heard I don't think Peyton is done. I think he can not play week to week. Which is why they are resting him this week so he will be ready to go against the Patriots the next week.
I hope you are right Captain Yesterday that the Patriots win against the Broncos. But history has not been good for the Patriots in Denver. Their defense is amazing this year and I expect them to put a hurting on the Pats. With all the injuries the patriots have on the O line it is going to be very tough for them to win there.
I agree Peyton has fallen on hard times but he will play this year and Denver is likely to make the playoffs and if they get him some rest he will be dangerous.

Largely because I knew it was always a good game, featuring two of the all time best with something important on the line. Now that it seems to be over, I'm a bit sad. There has never been a QB rivalry as good as what he just lost, no other pair of future hall of famers have faced each other as often as these two.
They're also really good friends. They play golf and have dinner together in the off-season.

Speaking as a Panthers fan (from franchise inception), that Super Bowl loss is a very sore spot.
Our team has only posted a few winning seasons. Most of the time, we've been right at .500 or below.
We are lovin' the ride right now, but glad the team's only looking to the next game on the schedule. It actually helps to have all the doubters and haters among the sports pundits. As long as they keep justifying our record as fluke wins, weak opponents, or whatever, the players will see themselves as underdogs, and play with the passion of a team that has nothing to lose.
As a fan who doesn't have to actually play the game, I hope we get the chance to face the Patriots again in the Super Bowl, and this time come away with a Lombardi.

Honestly, as a Saints fan....I rooted for Carolina in their Superbowl loss because of Delhomme who played college ball at the nearby University of Louisiana-Lafayette (where I received my Masters in 2012).
This year, the Saints' season is all but over (It's about time RR got fired), so I think I might start rooting for Carolina come playoff time.
Ravens won but it was costly, ouch.
My poor vikings looks like Green bay is starting to kick the Ditka jinx.

Wow Patriots find a way to win despite the bad officiating and additional loss of more weapons in Aaron Dobson and worse Danny Amendola.
That offensive line needs help they are holding it together with string and twine. They are finding ways to win which makes me happy but they are not finding it easy that is for certain.

Edited to add some stuff:
He tried playing for the Vikings back in '04. He got cut during the preseason after being tossed around like a rag doll by opposing offensive linemen. He wasn't soft, his combine stats were excellent. He actually compares favorably to JJ Watt, Watt had a few more bench reps, but Lesnar was about 0.15 sec faster in the 40, and that's a pretty big gap in the NFL.
Physically, he was capable, he just didn't have the technical skill to compete. If you watch the little tap there is of him, he pretty much never gets anywhere close to the QB during a pass rush. A couple times he ends up on the ground.

That game against the Saints was brutal. Too many mistakes, and the Saints came ready to play. This time, Cam and the offense bailed-out the defense; basically the opposite of what happened against the Cowboys.
Nevertheless, a sloppy win is still a win. No one ever accused the Panthers of having an elegant style of play!
Cam Newton is having an amazing year. He's been good his whole career, but he's really taking it to an elite level this year. If they win the Super Bowl and Cam continues playing like this next year, he'll have to be put into the conversation of top QB's in the league, next to Rodgers, Brady and Brees. Reason I say "next year" is it takes consistency to get into that conversation.

Seriously, though. Odell Beckham should have been ejected for that helmet-to-helmet hit on Josh Norman. It was deliberate, gratuitous and dangerous. He could have snapped Josh's neck. NOT. COOL.
They should have been both tossed, to be honest. They looked like they were having an MMA match while everyone else was playing football.
I don't pull for either team (well, Ginn I pull for, since his last couple of weeks put me in my fantasy Super Bowl this week in my money league), and OBJ was out of control, but, if you were completely honest with yourself, you'd admit most of it was retaliation for Norman's cheap crap when the refs weren't looking.
Like they say, it's usually the guy reacting that gets caught, and that was the case with a lot of these.

I agree, the refs should have tossed them both after the second penalty and gotten on with the game. That being said, charging down the field and spearing a guy in the side of the head is way beyond the pale. I'm glad Odell got a suspension for it, and I'm glad Josh didn't suffer a career ending injury.

The Patriots back on track thanks to Denver crashing and burning lately. I don't expect them to win against Cincinnati at this rate. Either way one of them has to win and giving the Patriots a clear way to not just a first round bye but home field advantage.
I agree Beckham should have been suspended and both of them should have been tossed out.
The refs are continuing to show that they cant keep up with the game or control it. It is a serious problem that should be addressed, the league should have fulltime refs who do it for a living. It is not as thought the NFL does not have the money to be able to do it.
Ref's pretty much are full time.
Sunday, including travel, lasts from about 5 AM to 11 PM, for an afternoon game. They have to take a written test every week during the season, and once a month during the offseason. They have a casebook of about 1000 plays that they have to study continuously. They spend 4-5 hours in meetings a week and another 20-30 watching game film.
We saw what the replacement ref's looked like in 2012. They were absolutely awful compared to what has been in place before and after.
Ref's are human and have to make constant judgement calls. There will always be error. They did experiment with an 8th official on the field this year. I don't know what the results or final decision on that is though.
It's been pretty well documented that for whatever reason...the refs have made LOTS of bad calls this year. Way more than normal.
I'm not a big enough fan of the NFL to really care why, but I think that if 99% of fans can watch something on their television and say "That's a catch" but the rules say otherwise, or if the television announcers can spot problems faster and more accurately than the 7 guys on the field...you have a problem.

Aaaand so much for that perfect season...sigh. Carolina slept on Atlanta, probably because they embarrassed them two weeks ago. Here's the thing: this game was at their house. They weren't going to let this game be a repeat beat down.
Now, I'm hoping for the Packers to pull one out against Arizona, and also hope the Panthers don't sleep on the Bucs next week, too.
If they can rebound, losing the game can actually be a good thing. It reminds them that they can lose and need to work hard to avoid it. A perfect season would be awesome, but I think this helps them be mentally prepared for the playoffs better.
I'm not a Panthers fan, but I've got my fingers crossed for them.

The refs have a big load and spend a lot of time but they are not fulltime employees of the NFL. They have other jobs besides being a ref. I also think there should probably age limitations and health considerations for the refs.
These guys also ref college games we already had a few mistakes where they called based on the college rules rather than the NFL rules. If you made them full time you for the NFL only you would certainly avoid that. I think this year has been more egregious than even the 2012 year. Mistakes can and will happen and that can be acceptable ... the amount of mistakes this year is unacceptable.
They could probably use another ref on the field as well. But the NFL did go on the cheap with the refs and not making them full time employees of the sport I think it is a big mistake with the amount of money the league is making right.

Those examples are anecdotes. Yes, there have been mistakes in high profile games, but if you look at the statistics, the ref's are on par this year with the last 4 years. Last year they were 95.6% accurate, this year they've been 95% accurate (though teams are averaging 4 more plays per game as well this year).
I agree that the ref's should just be full time. They aren't stars, but they're hugely influential to the game. Pay them more and require them to be full-time.
There have been a couple high profile mistakes, but there haven't actually been significantly more mistakes than usual. Officiating crews average less than one incorrect call per game and 1.7 no calls (a penalty that should have been called, but wasn't).
