Castle Whiterock?

Playtest Reports

My team just successfully blew our monthly budget(s) on beta manuals , chronicles, and a KoDT special. Now we have to wait before we can get the campaign setting.
We're wanting to run Castle Whiterock in the world of Golarion. What would be the best candidate for it's location? Are there any other gazeteers that magnify those areas for gameplay out yet?

I will admit a certain amount of ignorance towards Castle Whiterock. I know it was Goodman's mega adventure but I don't know about the background or history.

Is it feasible to post a little about the story to get a better idea on where it might fit?

White Rock is pretty self contained, you can pretty much stick it anywhere in Golarion, even near the starting point for the Runelords. In fact I would love to run a game combining the Runelord adventures with what is in Castle Whiterock. I think that would be AWESOME!!

If it can go anywhere than Varisia is a good choice. Lots of great setting material for that region.

Somewhere near or in Darkmoon Vale might work as well.

Like I said, I am not familiar with the background, but perhaps it could be placed on the Isle of Kortos. It could be one of the famed siege castles, formerly used by invaders in a bid to conquer Absalom.

Your going to want a mountain area with at least one body of water close enough for a tributary to paas through. It need not be a full range. One lone ridge is just as good as an entire range. Preferable, maybe. And some sort of settlement but no closer then at least one days ride.

Whiterock's set inside the caldera of an inactive volcano, so it'll most likely be in some kinda mountain range. There has to be some manner of small city / large town nearby to substitute for Cillamar. You've got a lot of room to choose from; looking at the Varisian map, I see a bunch of places that might work: Turtleback Ferry, Sirathu, Wolf's Ear... heck, even Riddleport could work.

I would definitely set it in Varisia then. I agree Riddleport or Turtleback Ferry both seem like a good choice for the town.

Having just started reading the Guide to Darkmoon Vale, that seems like it could be a good place to set it. You've got the Five Kings Mountains, the big volcano Droskar's Crag, and some close-by settlements (Falcon's Hollow, Olfden). And you can download two Pathfinder modules set there for FREE: Hollow's Last Hope and Revenge of the Kobold King.

You'd probably have to change some of the setting (Droskar's Crag is an active volcano, dwarves instead of gnomes) to fit the module, but that's always the case when you're trying to shoehorn something from one setting to another.

I started running Castle Whiterock in January (after my group bought it for me as a Christmas pressie), and a couple of months in we decided to transplant the campaign to Golaron, using the awesome power of retcon.

I made some alterations to the map, and stuck Cillamar down on the northern border of Numeria and the River Kingdoms, about 120 miles northwest of Pitax. I've basically just pointed to the map and said 'Yeah, so there's a wee mountain range there, don't worry about it'.

The River Kingdoms made sense to me, just because it allows the campaign to progress without worrying after reworking details from either Pathfinder or CW to fit it in...plenty of room for another petty kingdom and a dungeon in the River Kingdoms.
