Negotiating with the king of spiders (spoilers!)

Curse of the Crimson Throne

The Exchange

I'm now running "Edge of Enarchey" to my players, and they are going toward Eel's End. I suddnley relaised that there's no XP reward for sucsfully negotiating with him, which I find wierd and annoying. so what reward shall I give them in exchange of not getting violant?

Minus 1 from his CR and use that.

He's got a challenge rating, and I figure that negotiating counts as getting past the challenge.

I am with tbug. Most cases where I see an XP award for negotiating or doing something instead of fighting it states to award the PCs full xp for defeating a creature of the same level. I would likely do so here.

Yes, the CR is for the encounter. If you "win" the encounter, you get the XP, and the goal of the encounter is to get the information.

Yeah, but what about the hopefull thugs? the PC's will probably have to face them in Knivesis, so should I award them seprately for it, or does it count as a part of the negotiation effort?

The throne room is listed as EL 6. This includes the King of Spiders as well as the knivsies games and whatever else you do in that room to successfully acquire what you need.
