Turtleback Ferry: Mad Love or Lazy Vanity?

Rise of the Runelords

What Runelord ruled the land now occupied by Turtleback Ferry? All I know for sure is Greed was to the north, Wrath was off the coast to the west and Lust was in the southern swamps. There’ve also been half-remembered comments about historical ties to Korvosa and Magnimar, but I can’t remember which was what in those cases.

All of those leave Turtelback vaguely in the middle between them. Do I remember right that Skull Dam was build by Greed? Does that mean his kingdom stretched south to reach Lust’s borders?

Greed is definitely glossed as having dug the lake which Skull Crossing dams, and therefore presumably having built Skull Crossing.

I would like the special location in _Sins_ to be in no man's land, but I can't draw a map that makes that work--it's way too far inland to be on the border with Wrath (given that we have seen various marks on that border, and it's essentially at the modern coastline) and too far north to readily be on the border with Lust. In my campaign I moved it to Sandpoint, which puts it at least on a two-nation border.

I like the idea that Skull Crossing itself is the southern border for Greed: and that one of his motivations in digging that gigantic lake was to have something to hold over his southern neighbor. Cross me and your towns go under! But there is no clear evidence for this. I think Lust would be the southern neighbor; I don't think there's room for another one in between. But all of the Lust ruins seen so far are south of the river.

A map of this would be great (hint, hint).

A map of the realms of the runelords is on p. 223 of the setting hardcover.

Mary, your wish is granted. The special location in Sins of the Saviors is indeed in No Man's Land. Things just loop around a little and leave it out. It's pretty close to Cyrusian, but it looks like it was deliberately built just outside the border.

Actually, by my reading, Runeforge is in Cyrusian. It's just about under the 'r' in Cyrusian, in fact. Which would make sense with Xanderghul being the strongest of the Runelords, and thus getting to host their marvellous playground.

As for Turtleback Ferry, that's very definitely in Greed's lands. The southern border of Karzoug's domain isn't really until the lower edges of Sanos Forest. If you're curious, Greed actually has two southern neighbours; Sorshen (Lust) to the West, and Krune (Sloth) to the East. Alaznist (Wrath) is on Karzoug's Western border. Xanderghul (Pride) is to his North-West, and Zutha (Gluttony) to his East. He doesn't share a border with Belimarius (Envy).

Awesome. Thanks, everyone.

Just out of curiosity, does Karzoug have anything to do with Kaer Maga? I don't recall reading anything saying who originally built it.

According to the Campaign setting maps, Kaer Maga seems to be in Haruka, turf of the Runelord of Sloth. Assuming a Runelord of Sloth was nominally responsible, giants and/or summoned minions were probably employed to build the place.

The adventure indicates that it was Karzoug who ordered Kaer Maga built after the quary that supplied most of the stone for the various monuments he had built ran dry and left a huge gaping wound. He ordered the damn built and included his second favorite motif after himself... skulls. The demons powering the skulls also remember Karzoug's name but nothing about him.

I think you mean Skull crossing not Kaer Maga

Kaer Maga is a city in the begining of the Cinderlands
