Please help us! Sell us a fillable .PDF character sheet that crunches the numbers and looks really nice!
I only say this because I have 3 new and 2 old PFRPG players at my new game. The character creation process took nearly 3 hours! Still WAY too much back and forth through books.
IMO, this is one of 4E's biggest(and almost only)strengths - ease of prep and use.
While we're there, can/will Paizo show WotC the way, and have a good 3rd party make some decent e-tool apps? They are SO needed, and yet the only play they've seen has been embarassingly half-assed.
Hell, your fanbase has the skills, work something out! It just seems silly, that in this day and age, the only decent digital content (and by that I mean INTERACTIVE) is fan based stuff. Where's the beef!

You have a point - there could be a contest (with runner-ups of course for variety) - some prize. Or they could put a call out for submissions with the top 3 put up for PDF sale or some such.

I hope so! The fans would help, though they shouldn't really have to. This needs to come down from the top, though fan submitted materials would be an awesome place to start.
What about it Paizo? Any plans to pursue the digital RPG market? .PDF's dont count. I'm talking about industry leading "get it right FINALLY" stuff here.

i am never happy with those... i need to do my own to be happy... but yeah... i just do them with excel meh...
and the proicess of making chars is part of the beauty of it all :P ok at least for me, and 3 hours is not that much... i havd a player that took about 2 weeks for any kind of charac ter (specially Vampire: the Masquerade ones) i had to put him in thinking process 2 weeks prior or just accept it will take longer to begin
i had taken about a month in thought to the kind of character to play when given time :P so its ok, i am an understandable person :P

Was it 3 hrs for all 5 chars? or 3 hrs each?
paizo doesn't have the programming staff to do interactive anything at the moment. I'm sure they would be happy to work with someone who could do it, maybe form a partnership or something.
As for making a char sheet interactive/form fillable... that's easy. (I don't know how to do the formulas or automatic stuff though.)
Once the character sheet is finalized... then we can put something together.

I did this with the character sheet that came with an early version of 4e playtests and had formula's and everything. It's easy enough to do, though nothing comes close to the adaptability of pencil and paper :-)
As for character creation time, we generally spend a whole session getting the group statted up and working out everyone's backstories. Or there are weeks and weeks of prep time for a game we know is coming. The goal is always to make the most survivable character, and thus you want to make sure that it's a character you want to keep around for 20+ levels. I say that 3 hours isn't nearly enough!

I'm not big on interactive stuff, though. I don't like Acrobat Professional: It's more work that I've already done in InDesign that I have to do all over again. You'd think InDesign would be able to automatically make some of this stuff interactive.

Paizo's already moved on this. They're making arrangments with HeroLab.

The reason for that may be because the staff at Paizo (and other gaming companies) are more focused on the material they put out and therefor don't have the time to develop the skill set required to make such tools (or have the skills, but lack the time to use them). Where as hobbyists (which is what we gamers are, well, geeks and hobbyists :) ) tend to be able to pour more time into a project that's considered a hobby or a labor of love for them because it can be done aside from the responsibilities of a job, maintaining the home, etc.
For a gaming product producing company, that time spent in gaming stuff is often filled up with doing things that fall into the realm of those responsibilities to ensure the company is successful and that products get finished and are well made. Who wants to do the same kind of thing at home on their own time as they do all day at work?
Some of us would, but likely none of us would want to do it to that extent for the kind of time that it would likely take to develop what you're asking about.

THANK YOU! That is a beautiful character sheet!

I have created a chargen spreadsheet specifically for the Pathfinder RPG. Currently it is up-to-date for Pathfinder Alpha 3, and I'm working through the changes in Beta. It should speed up the character creation process, and even the generation of NPCs to save the GM prep time.
I read somewhere that other chargen packages are planning to support Pathfinder eventually, but I don't know when.
