man nice to now that there is other people that play pathfinder in houston. and i am not the only one these days. been looking around like made to find a game to join or even if any one knows of one. can anyone please help me?
We're on the west side, but we play a heavily modified (read: mostly rewritten) version of Pathfinder found HERE. If that's too much to learn, or doesn't fit your idea of a good system, I can totally understand if you want to take a pass. On the other hand, if you like what you see after looking things over, post again and maybe we can arrange an interview (we're fairly strict when it comes to admission, which sometimes leads stretches with no game when people are busy).

The houserule thread has a whole playtest/editing thing going on, totally crazy cool.
And there's even drama, so it's like History Channel, G4 and TNT rolled into one.

Just got through skimming on the rules, and must say I like what I have read so far. I am going to be reading more of the rules and the post when i have more time. As for the game I am still interested and also live on the west side near Dairy Ashford and Richmond so location won't be a problem.

I'd recommend mostly checking just this one; any changes to the house rules we can get you caught up on when we meet (and if/when we reach critical mass, I'll send out version 2.1 documents via email with all the errata made).
At any time, I'm also happy to send the latest version of any document upon request.

It varies, but unless you're on a tiny base they usually have a commercial solution available. Nothing like a captive market to bring investors!
I have considered online tabletops but never got around to attempting to set it up. One reason is the time scheduling. When you have friends in Texas, Georgia, Ohio, and Guam, getting a four hour block of time they can all be online is difficult. The other is that it isn't the same as being face to face at the table. I'm not going to take the time to make it work unless it is easy enough to get over that hurdle of 'it just is not the same'.

So my schedule is actually set now because I ride the bus to work and even if I take the last bus I should get home before 7pm (of course this does not include s@@!ty days where I miss the last bus and have to walk home).
...so are we going to play...sometime...maybe?
I'd love to! Our roster of other players is sadly depleted, however:
That said, if Andostre gets some time off, I would be all in favor of getting going with 2 players and hopefully pick up some more along the way.

Just wanted to give a big wave to west Houston. When I was a kid growing up near the Medical Center, I thought everything outside the Loop was far. In high school, that moved to the Beltway. After coming home from College Station and getting a job, the Beltway is my boundary in the opposite direction. The Grand Parkway is now my outer band.
Funny how the world gets constantly bigger.

Not sure how much longer I'll be on baby duty. The little guy is not too big into sleeping, so with the exception of a couple long stretches at night (which we're grateful for), he needs lots of attention during the day. I tried bringing up D&D nights to my wife, who, while understanding of my hobby, didn't like the idea of not getting the break in the evening I can usually supply when I get home from work. I understand where she's coming from, really. I'm exhausted when I watch him for a few hours by myself.
Anyway, she goes back to work in April, so I'll bring it up again, then.
And dang! I just checked Facebook to see if I could find out where derek was! I had no idea!

Definitely do not want to discourage you from being a good parent! I just wanted to know more about the situation so I could maybe help or whatever

Hi guys, I'm a gamer moving to the Houston area in the first week of April. This thread seems to have the most activity, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce myself and hopefully meet some cool gamers in the area. I'm a Chicago native who'll be moving to the Westchase area. I'm hoping to find some Pathfinder Society play and maybe some Adventure Path campaigns or some homebrew. I've looked over some of the word documents in this thread with alternate rules and they're very intriguing.
Ideally, I'd like to get 4 hours of solid gaming in every other week at a minimum. I'm also willing to GM now and again although I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the greatest at it.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to my move and I'll hope to meet some of you in the not too distant future.

It so happens I'm in Westchase, and am looking for another player for our weekly game here! If the variant rules don't scare you off, please do give me a heads-up here when you get into town -- we can get together for a beer, to welcome you to Houston, and see how well you'd fit in.
April will be fairly tight for me in terms of business travel, so if I don't reply within a couple of days, that doesn't mean I'm blowing you off -- most likely it means I'm in the field somewhere without internet access, and I'll respond as soon as I get back.

Hello and welcome to Houston. We have a semi-regular group that plays down in the Clear Lake/Pasadena area. ~1 hour SE of Houston. We usually meet at San Jacinto Jr. College in Pasadena, TX. every other Saturday. We usually play one round and sometimes two. There is also a new Thursday night group playing up in Houston on the West/NW side once or twice a month also. Feel free to contact Robert Love at ralove_69@yahoo.com and get hooked up on the mailing list of posted games. Also Charles Bailey demoyn35@hotmail.com does the Thursday night games. I think we can fulfill your gaming needs without much trouble.

What complex are you moving to? Most of them in Westchase are good, but a few are crime-ridden black holes of death. You might not know if you rent sight-unseen. Unlike Chicago's circular pattern, Houston has a number of small nodes of criminal activity.
My wife has family in Houston, so we're pretty good on where to move. Thanks for the offer of help though.

Don't worry guys, there's enough of me to go around. And thanks for the heads up on the e-mail list Hark. I've been looking for a yahoo or google group like the one I'm in here in Chicago, but haven't had much luck yet.

D&D is anime. I will never be able to take the Warlock seriously again.
Wow. If I knew what any of those references meant or were referring to, I get the feeling it would be hilarious.

so i had this idea: DnD babysitting. it's never too early to start teaching them how to use the 5' step to its full potential...he can play an orc barbarian! whatever sounds he makes will be "orcish"
LOL! I can't wait until we can get enough players to get the game resurrected. Your sense of humor will be a very welcome addition -- although you and Andostre at the same table might be too much for me to maintain my humorless DM composure!

P.S. For anyone who hasn't seen it, the journal of the first few sessions of the campaign is HERE. It's about 5 levels out of date, unfortunately; one of these days I need to start getting it caught up.

Just putting this here so I have it easily available. And because it's awesomely broken and I want to share it. :)
Anyway, what's this Prestige Paladin trick?
Using PrC Pally to get Battle Blessing (Complete Champion) and getting a free Quicken Spell on every single spell you can cast as a Cleric.
Sword of the Arcane Order is a feat in Champions of Valor that allows you to prepare and cast wizard spells in your paladin spell slots. Since Prestige Paladin advances the spellcasting of a preexisting class, you can prepare wizard spells in those slots.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
TOZ, as noted, is on deployment.
Andostre has permanently retired from gaming in favor of diaper-changing.
Mel and Jim (new players) and I are trying to find times to meet -- generally every other Thursday.
Welcome back.
Still your place?
I should have wheels and a phone again tomorrow, but my dice and gaming gear are buried under a mound in storage, so I need to find a friend with a truck and a strong back to help me mine it for goodies...
Did y'all miss me?
;-)

Last session was at Jim's, just up the block (in your direction), off of Voss.
Miss you? Man, I kept staging scenes in Mr. C's casino, just so Cadogan could put in cameos as "the pretty wiseguy who keeps an eye on the place for the owner."
I think you'll really like the new players -- Mel gets really into character and is nonstop fun. Unfortunately, these two are a bit more "real-life" oriented, so game week is whenever eveyone happens to have the same Thursday evening off. Maybe next week (the 10th)?
If you can wait 2 months (for my foot to heal), I can help you move stuff, but until then I'm hobbling on a cane, so I'm not much use for that, I'm afraid.

I'm not "permanently" retired, but to be fair, I never said that I'm available, again, either.
I didn't know that you guys were actively playing! I probably won't be able to make every session, but I'd like to try and play, again, if that's all right.
