New alpha? (question / request)

Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

I just wondered whether there wouldn't be new alpha...

One year for the Pathfinder Beta testing is a long time and since Pathfinder Alpha was used to introduce some wilder ideas it may be fine to occassionally trow in something that would sum some wilder ideas for us to see, not just parking it on the boards.

Would anyone second this thought?

I think they really need to focus on what is already on their plate. Just getting the bugs worked out of what They already have is a years work alone. They still need to rework the prcs, spells, plus there are bound to be plenty of bugs in the existing stuff. I know there were a good number of issues with alpha 3.

From my recollection I believe I had read somewhere that the Beta has already been sent to the printers... so I'd say that Alpha is officially over. Although I do think that another Alpha release could have been justified, I don't think it really matters that much. Whether its called Alpha or Beta, its really all the same thing. And I'm happy its being released as "Pathfinder Beta" as opposed to "Pathfinder 1.0".

With many people trying out 4th edition now, I suspect Paizo wants to keep in people's minds that there is still a playable version of the 3.5ish ruleset available as an alternative. The timing of the Beta release was quite critical because of this.

I do hope that in the spirit of the game (and following in Blizzard Entertainment's vision) that they do not release the final version until they are 100% satisfied with the final product.

Yeah; the Alpha stage is over. We'll be issuing updates and such for the Beta on a semi-regular schedule once it's out, but there won't be any more Alpha releases. That also means that, with the exception of adding in a few minor elements, there certainly won't be any new and extensive changes to the rules from this point onward... unless they're changes that ramp back something in the Beta to something closer to the 3.5 version, I suppose.
