Hi Folks,
While reading the part about combat maneuvers and the CMB, which I think is a wonderful idea, I stumbled over this passage:
When performing combat maneuver, you must use an action appropriate the maneuver you are attempting to perform. While most combat maneuvers can be performed as part of an attack action (in place of a melee attack), others require specific actions. [...] When you perform a combat maneuver, make an attack roll and add your CMB to the result plus any bonuses you might have due to specific feats or abilities.
Does this mean that spells like
Haste, Divine Favor, Divine Power, Bless, Heroism etc. gives also a Bonus to combat maneuvers ?Same question to feats and abilities:
Weapon Focus, Melee Weapon Mastery, Weapon Training of Fighter, Favored Enemy of Ranger, Smite Evil of Paladin, Bardic Songs, etc.
All these gives bonus to Attack rolls.
So do they also give bonus to maneuvers like Grapple, Trip and Disarm ?
What about weapon enchantment boni ?
They also gives a +x to attack (and damage)...
What about the defensive position ?
Do these spells /abilities / feats give their bonus also to resist being tripped/disarmed/grappled/overrun/whatever ?

I'm pretty sure the alpha makes no mention about that, but I would say: Why not? I think it makes the whole thing more fun, and that's probably the single one reason why one should always do things. ;)
I'm pretty sure the opposite is true.
I believe the CMB roll and mechanic simply replaces the attack roll and any/all modifiers that would affect an attack.
Only use modifiers that specifically affect the chances of the CMB's success - such as size bonus, and feat related bonus.
If you're going to use all your attack modifiers such as weapon focus, enhancement bonus, haste etc that you would add to your attack roll to say "disarm" or "sunder" then the defender would then be logically allowed to add of these; then were' right back at opposed attack rolls and usurping the ease and simplicity of the CMB mechanic.

I'm sure he meant to use Bonuses or maybe he didn't... either way... it's a good question.
I think the bonus would add to the CMB.
Would love to see Jason's take on it.
It shouldnt at all. CMB should represent simply ones strength and combat capability (BAB) vs anothers - offset a bit by ones size - because we all know size does matter.
The magical enhancement of the sword shouldn't matter at all. Nor should Divine Favor, and similar enhancements.
