So I was curious where my FLGS was falling on the whole schism that's going on right now in the RPG world. Granted, this game store is populated with a lot of WH40K guys and Magic and/or WoW Card Game guys. I would also say that the average age of most customers I see at this store is about 24. That may just be because a lot of younger guys have the time to hang around the store.
So I go over to the RPG racks, still a lot of 3E product sitting on the shelf.
Me: So how's the 4E stuff selling?
FLGS dude: It's selling really well.
Me: Really?
FLGS dude: Yeah. Have you tried it out yet?
Me: No, I read the rules and I don't think it's for me.
FLGS dude: You really have to play it. It's so much more streamlined...
Me: Yeah, well if I wanted to play a game like that I could play Descent.
FLGS dude: Yeah, I see what you mean.
Mind you, I already have $300 invested in Descent, which is a great game I can never find players for. Part of the reason may be that they don't market it as an RPG.
I also asked if anyone was interested in Pathfinder. He said they had a couple of guys interested, but not a large number.
Oh well. I then immediately called a long time friend from the left coast and had a good rant about 4E.
