I'd like to play in a short campaign to test out the 4th Edition Rules. Ideally, the campaign would:
- be designed for Levels 1-5
- update daily, or close to it
- be run by a DM familiar with 4E rules
- test out a variety of the 4E mechanics
- use some kind of visual aid for combat (eg. spreadsheet grid)
- include a skill challenge at some point
Personally, I'm open to any setting or style. Whatever the DM wants to run. There was a botched attempt to start a game on this site because the DM disappeared, so there are several players with characters and backgrounds ready to go. I think we probably just need a DM.
My character is a Dragonborn Fighter named Anarak.

I might consider this. But be aware I have never DMed a pbp before and will make a lot of mistakes.
The battlegrids I'll need to work out but that's probably not rocket science. Also an adventure. Do any of the other players have an expressed preference?
Daily posting is not an issue. As fellow-players in my pbp games will attest, I'm hard to shut up :D

I'm one of the players Jonventus spoke of. My character is all set to go, and you can find his stats/avatar in my profile (Baldrech the Unkind, a shifter ranger). I'm willing to modify race and background, if need be.
Thanks for starting the thread, Jon.
And Rev Rosey, thanks for your interest in DMing a PbP...

Sounds great to me. I don't have any problem with this being your first foray into DMing by post. It'll be most of our first times playing 4E, so I'm sure we'll be making our fare share of mistakes as well.
Nobody expressed a particular adventure preference last time. Keep on the Shadowfell seems to have gotten mixed, but mostly negative reviews, but I would be fine with it. Maybe there's something in the new WotC online Dungeon (blasphemy, I know!). I believe it is still free to access.
I'm not sure what other published 4E adventures are available, but I am fine with anything you want to run.

Certainly the only "official" published 4E adventures are by Wizards, as the GSL does not permit publication yet (not an invitation for debate about merits or lack thereof, but I know you're all cool).
This includes Keep on the Shadowfell, which I am currently running as a PBP; two heroic-tier adventures in Dungeon (yes, still free), "Heathen" for 5th-level, and "Sleeper in the Tomb of Dreams" for 8th-level; the something-something Shadowhaunt D&D GameDay adventure (which I've played); and the two Living Forgotten Realms preview adventures for 1st-level, "Scalegloom Hall" and "Escape from Sembia." A 3rd-level LFR preview will be available Monday, "Death in the Skyfire Wastes."
(I am an RPGA GM and can get the LFR modules).
As far as I know, that's all that's been published. Of course there are literally oodles of 3E adventures that can be converted, depending on what Rosey wants to do.

The D&D Game Day Shadowhaunt adventure was called "Into the Shadowhaunt." The only thing I can think of that you left out was the Free RPG Day adventure, "Treasure of Talon Pass." Unless, of course, you count the other Game Day scenario, which was simply a fight with a white dragon, as an adventure.
By the way, if there are any player spots left for this 4E PBP, I'd love to join you if you'll tolerate a noob.

EDITED - added to first paragraph.
OK. First, I don't want to hijack Evil Genius's game, so let's just start from scratch with this one. If Evil G comes back, his game is still entirely his. This is just another, different 4E one-shot. If it goes well and we all have fun with it, we can talk about doing more.
Feel free to use the characters you've already got, but if you want to re-jig them once I've posted something backgroundy, go ahead.
Ideally try and concoct some reasons why you know each other already. I'm not the biggest fan of tavern meetings. I love my role play, but I'd rather not spend 6 pages while you all work out ways of meeting. Have some connection already and role play that. If you want input, I'm very happy to give it.
I'll run a one shot, which at this point is likely to be a re-jigged 3E adventure of some kind. Between you I'm willing to bet you all know most of the modules ever printed, so I'll tweak it in the hope that some of it may come as a surprise.
We're all on a learning curve with this one, so I'm assuming that we'll all do extremely stupid things from time to time.
What I'd like to do is wait and see who from the original cast wants in on this before adding any more if that's acceptable. I've got no problem with noobs - especially since I'm one this time round myself.
When we're a little more finalised, I'll open up a new game thread and get us up and going as soon as possible.
It would be helpful to know your time zones (I'm UK), and I won't be getting anything running until Sunday as Saturday is the one day of the week I'm not around during the day. But it won't be any later than that if you're all happy to go that way.
Ooof. Long post. Hope that answers a few questions, but I'm winging it ...

And in the 2 hours and 22 minutes since I posted that catalog, "Rescue at Rivenroar," the first installment in Scales of War, Dungeon's new 1-30 adventure path, has been posted.
While I don't think that's what we're looking for here, I would put off joining the Players-By-Post Anonymous long enough to make a character for it if someone out there is interested!

I'd like to jump in on this also, I'd actually like to reroll a character if that is alright. Fawks is geared towards the other game, and in the event that Evil comes back I'd like to have a different character for each game that I'm playing.
Any ideas on how we will tie our characters together? I'll start working on a few character ideas now, also did anyone see the artificer class? and would it be allowed for me to play one or do we want to stick with the phb classes?

I am also one of the players from Evil Genius' Verdant Shadow campaign.
I'd like to join in on this, and I'd prefer to make a new character for that purpose in case EG comes back. However, I'm at my cottage right now and won't have access to my books until Tuesday...
I'm in Ottawa, Canada, which is EST.

I'm in. My time zone is Eastern Canada (GMT-5). I usually post at around midnight or during the day on slow work days.
Assuming you're using 22-point buy method, I'll keep the same character, a Dragonborn Fighter named Anarak.
Can you give us some background on the setting whenever you decide what it is? Are we starting in a big city? What races are common in the region? etc.

I'm fine with this, but I think any more and my brain may explode.
The adventure will be Isle of Fury (Dungeon Crawl Classics from Goodman) because I like the Norse feel, it's tough for 1st level pcs and I can scale it sensibly. It also offers a reasonable selection of skill tests and mixed wilderness and underground encounters. It is however a complete flub for urban encounters.
If it goes well and everyone's happy (and survives) I'll haul you all back to town and we'll go from there.
I'll start a game thread on the Discussion board, so if you can all shift over to that, we'll get going. I'll get some rough background up now, and sort the details later today.
