Can a wizard get a bonded object & a familiar?

Races & Classes

It seems like some might want both. I can think of a couple of ways to do this.

1) take a level of sorcerer with an arcane background
2) use a feat that allows you to summon a familiar, like that one from Complete Arcane.

Would there be any other way?

Use the Obtain Familiar Feat from the Complete Arcane, but that's not PRPG strictly speaking.

The Obtain Familliar feat is not balanced for use in Pathfinder. In the source material in which it came from it was not designed for wizards and sorcerers to obtain 2 familiars. I'd have to rule is that the Arcane Bond trumps all familiar feats. and restrict the use that feat to any character without an arcane bond at all. I believe it was originally intended for characters like bards and arcane casters who did not get familiars as a class feature.

The inherent nature of the arcane bond is that you choose one or the other, not both. Class levels that are identical overlap in multiclassing, they do not stack.

I don't think you can use that feat, because it falls under the standard rules which states that a Wizard who multi-classes as Sorceror (or vice-versa) does NOT get a second familiar. It was intended for use by non-familiar receiving classes only.

I KNOW I read an Obtain Second Familiar feat somewhere, but I'm damned if I can rememeber where (I just went through all my WotC stuff, along with 5 other possibile 3rd party settings).

Anyone else know where that could be found? I even tried AEG's FEATS book, to no avail. Anway, having that feat would really screw-up Paizo's intentions here of "this or this", not both.

Interestingly, I DID come across Item familiars in UA, which sounds awfully 'familiar' (no pun intended).

The Extra Familiar feat is in Dragon #280

The overall liability level of a familiar is high enough that allowing the Obtain Familiar feat to also function as Extra Familiar (just so you can have one feat on the list instead of 2, when they do essentially the same thing) is no big deal.

Besides, its a blast to have the PCs come up the hill to the old crone/wise woman, and shes a 9th level adept with 4 cat familiars. PCs get deliciously nervous when a quartet of cats just watches their every move in unison.
