Thanks! Now I have Van Halen in my head!
Yes, well... nature abhors a vacuum. Don't let them trash the place.
So nature fills things up with Van Halen? Is that the original group? Phase 2 with Sammy? Phase 3 With the guy no one remembers? Or maybe phase four without Michael Anthony but David Lee Roth is back?

Groupies fill up with Van Halen.

My understanding is that Ed's empty head invited filling, and the Van Halen of old that played Hot for Teacher was only to happy to move in.

Gary Cherone from Extreme was the guy no one remembers. He's got no one to blame but himself.

Well and that 1 horrid album.

Then there was this guy Mitch Malloy in VH for about a minute after Sammy.

I didn't know Mitch was ever in VH. Hmm. I only knew who he was because my friend John Kivel of Kivel Records regularly runs down all the old names in hair metal.

I remember a tribute to Freddy Mercury concert back in the 90's... Gary sang a song with Brian May and kept grabbing Bryan around the neck onstage while singing, as if the two of them had been playing together for years and knew each other like that. It was an outright obnoxious headlock. I was sitting there saying, "Flash in the pan dude, that's rock royalty you're choking out there."

This book also talks about the time they were together. I dont own the book but Ive read it and it talks about that chapter of VH for a bit. I cant find any youtube proof...

Heres a pic and interview...

So I guess I dont know if he was 'in'...those VH Bros are very very tricksy. But demos were made, right?!?!?!?

Sorry about tangents Sir Jade.

Since I was inflicted with Australian music from 4-6 grade, I demand that Flash comment on "Tie me Kangaroo down, sport."

Rone & Ed: the Cthulhutech guy was a good guest, another enjoyable show. And now I'm really in the mood to watch "The Thing."

If he records that song, I'll use once it to close out the show. That would be amazing.

Oops, I edited because I thought no one was around.

Ha-ha! Good idea, Rone.

Nomad's interview link nails down the answer to that question.

I saw David Lee Roth perform outside at a speedway back in '91 and it was an odd show. He was getting older and wasn't in voice. His musicians were singing all the high parts. There were two young, long legged groupies in daisy dukes trying to get to him and he was clearly interested, but he looked me right in the eye and seemed upset, as if I was somehow stealing his spotlight by merely existing and being young. It's weird when you meet someone who you used to watch and whose albums you bought and have them leave you with a strange vibe.

I was hanging for a few with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood at the Songwriter's Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2002 and Sting and Trudy were coming our way. Sting looked right at me, stopped in his tracks, and redirected Trudy so she'd take a different route. WTF? I don't give off an autograph seeker vibe.

Later that night I accidentally followed two songwriters I greatly respect, Paul Williams and Randy Newman, into an elevator, thinking the bar where I was to meet with Rufus W. wasn't on the lobby. Before someone shouted to correct me you should have seen the look on Paul and Randy's faces. They looked at me with abject fear there in my gothy frankenboots and hot topic tuxedo. Paul is like 4'11 and I was about 6'6 in those boots. Yet another musical hero of mine wants to climb the nearest tree in my presence.

Yeah, Matt's a great guest.

I've been wanting to see The Thing remake again too since hearing Ed's pick. Regrettably, I only have a copy on Laserdisc, and I haven't had that dinosaur hooked up in over ten years.

I'm going to go check to see if it ever came out on Blu-Ray.

Stories? Sometimes just the quips have enormous images attached to them. Ignominious, even.

Netflix sent me the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Blu-ray today. Cute flick.

Was it that "outsider taint" line from the interview? One of these days I'm going to learn how to not illustrate aloud every bent imagining that barges into me noggin. Not one day soon, but one day.

Hey, Viagra commercial on just now felt the need to write across the screen, "Does not protect against STDS, including HIV." Is that a dumb rumor going around these days? Makes me want to start a fresh rumor so they have to write, "Will not bring the dead back to life."

Ack....I just started listening to # 40 when the Welcome Matt was put out and then the woman came home from work and announced chores to do. Blah! I did get chuckles out of it, so I'll have to go back and listen to it with headphones.

I'm sobbing because I want to see Pandorum because Event Horizon is a favorite of mine. My beloved Netflix .... sniffle, how I miss you so.

RPG Superstar 2012

Great episode, guys! Welcome Matt--hee hee hee.

Spoiler:
The bus stop hooker riff was a stun grenade to the interview. Good work.

I'm not sure about this, but does Ed maybe like CthulhuTech?

Pandorum is less intimate than EH... more of an action banger, but it's in that vein of deep space horror.

He does indeed!

And stun grenade is just an ideal way to describe what happened there. Nice!

So, it's more Alien like?

See, for me, "Alien" is one of the great horror movies of all time. The sequels change genre.

For me, it's still the Exorcist.

The Exchange

Both great movies. The sequel to Alien is a Great Action/Sci Fi but no longer Horror.

Crimson Jester wrote:

Absolutely. Pandorum was more like Aliens, minus that film's epic quality. Fun watch though. I want one good fast zombie movie and one good deep space horror flick every couple of years or I get antsy.

And Urizen, +1 for the Exorcist.

Mairkurion {tm} wrote:

I saw Alien in theaters as a preteen and kept using my baseball cap to cover my eyes over the kill scenes. That Xmas eve the alien itself was all I could think about. The only scary Xmas eve I've ever had.

I didn't see Alien until we got cable. 1983, at the earliest? Maybe later?

When it came out, I only saw the billboards and the trailers. Scott, the cool teenager on the block all us kids looked up to, saw it, and narrated parts of the movie to us. These elements alone combined and made me terrified of going in the attic, where aliens could hide in the rafters. Sheer awesome.

First movie I saw that scared the living crap out of me as a kid was Cujo. The scene where the mom and the kid are trapped in the car and it's hot and the kid is hyperventilating ... and Cujo tries to throttle them from the outside. Hoo boy.

*****

Jade - are you and Ed in the same location when you're doing the podcast? Just curious.

When Cujo appeared at the car window, my sister and I leaped off of the couch. Haha! Good one, Urizen.

Liberty's Edge Contributor, RPG Superstar 2012

Jaws was the first movie that scared me as a kid. It helped that we lived in Tampa at the time, but I know I stayed away from the water for a couple of months after that movie.

Should we start a thread for All Time Best Horror Movies and move this discussion there?

That's a great idea. I'll chime in tomorrow, because I'm going to bed now.

Or just Horror movies in general. I've been jonesing for watching a horror movie lately, but the missus will have NOTHING to do with it. And it just ain't the same to watch it during the day when I'm at home with time on my hands. HORROR isn't meant for the daytime. :P

On occasion, I still buy horror magazines at the newsstands.

RE the Scapegoat: HAHAHA! Still...

Yeah... sorry about that. I'm thankful I listened to the show and caught the error early.

I was wondering about that actually. You guys missed one in the previous show, so I wasn't sure if you just weren't doing bleeps anymore or if you just thought that one had enough artistic merit to leave it in.

Now that I know you guys are still paying attention to it though, I'll be able to unload for the next ep with a clear conscience...

Maybe.

Finally listened to my first full episode of AA beginning with # 40. Needless to say I had a good chuckle.

I would love to hear more rants. Or even guest rants...

I see that my sad trombone soundclip suggestion made it in there. :D

Shame there isn't an uncensored version out there to be released along with the censored one.

Is it me or sometimes I hear some drops in the audio quality? Then again, I'm hearing impaired with only 40% of my hearing so it might just have to do with certain tones that aren't registering to me.

Look forward to the next one! You have a new listener.

I'm jealous of new listeners: they can go backwards and everything is new, instead of waiting for the next show. O-o-o-o...

Heh. Not sure if I'm going to go back and listen to all the older episodes. I was looking through the archives, but they're not as managable in its manuevering (sic) as I'd like. It would be easier if I could just do a PREVIOUS and NEXT between the months or have them listed on one page and have a hot hyperlink from an index at the top to relocate me to where the episode of interested is listed down below in chronological date order.

But I'm probably being just whiny here.

How long do we have until we have to respond to the trivia question? And how many winners can there be? And can I be as absurd as I want to be? :P

Do you have iTunes? I recommend subscribing, then you can go down the list, read the descriptions of each, and download the ones you want to listen to. Also, someone with the initial M could tell you which are the best shows.

Actually, Rone and Ed, a list would be handy to have somewhere.

Look at the show note pages at atomicarray.com and you'll see how your entries garner some true admiration. Shiny was the last to comment about how much he liked your work.

In keeping with you passing the buck to him should your wife hear the entry, Shiny was clearly just getting a WWF fake blood feud going for a spot of extra entertainment.

You two rock thunderously. And congrats yet once again... Elmo handily defeating Cthulhu was an all time high. "ELMO DEMANDS HUGS... AND SACRIFICE!"

iTunes is on my desk(s)top, which I need to get around to locating an WinXP boot disk to revive and fix the problem with the registry (damn rogue registry cleaner). I'm happy I kept all of my hundreds of Gigs of music on an external drive, though. Haven't decided whether I'll install it yet on this laptop, though.

Well, when I come across this 'M' guy, I'll have to garner a peek at his top hits.

I need to start working on my Kasey Kassem voice again. When I did more phone work, I had this uncanny ability to drop into game show / radio dj voice that really threw off complaining clients. :P

Urizen wrote:

Sometimes we are. Sometimes we are not. But, quite metaphysically, we see what each other sees and hear what each other hears ever since that camping trip where we upset the Potawatomi tribe's Feast of Dreams and unleashed the evil spirit Matchemonedo. Since then, Ed's been forced to sleeplessly endure my mad mind always buzzing with creative but useless ideas, and I've been forced to suffer his daily existence as well. My right palm even bears sympathy callouses. Gross.

I see that you guys are in the sequel to Brokeback Mountain. Touché!
