Episode 31 of Atomic Array escaped into a superhero MMORPG gone terribly wrong! <-- LOOGOUT, a hyperlink that'll suck you into another reality!
BlackWyrm recently released War of Worldcraft, an rather humorous introductory adventure for HERO System 6th Edition, from HERO Games. This adventure has more hooks than a fishing supply warehouse during a one-handed pirate convention. We asked author Michael Satran, who you may remember from our Foxbat for President episode, to come on and talk about it.
We play the winning voicemails from our signed copies of Pathfinder Core Rulebook giveaway.

So, on the way to see "9" (a great movie by the way), I was finishing up listening to the Atomic Array, which featured another awesomely wacky adventure from Mr. Satran. My son was thoroughly entertained by your podcast too. Then, you announced the winners of the signed Pathfinder Roleplaying Game book, and I thought, "Cool, I can't wait to hear the neat ways the winners came up with to kill an elder wyrm." And then I was stunned to hear *my* goofy slumber party entry. I believe I said, "Holy crap, that's my entry!"
So, thanks, you made my son's day and my week. :)

That was you! Congrats, taig! Incredible.
There were many great entries and the judging for this contest was, for me, harder than any other. However the imagery your entry conjured was so fun, so absurd, and so unique that it really stood out.
One signed Pathfinder Corerulebook coming your way. Wear it well! (Makes a great bullet-proof vest)

How many seconds did it take you to go from helpful hippie to psycho hippie avenger?
I think one, maybe two seconds. I didn't realize it was Ed until Rone had already taken off after him. I seriously thought they were just goofing off until Rone came back over to the planter I was sitting on totally shattered that he might have injured a friend.

The Jade |

To Rone's credit, Ed was wearing some pretty jock-ish sunglasses and the bus had tinted windows, so the only cue was the mouth/jaw area of Ed's face.
That is kind of you to say.
I was hanging out with Ed and Lou and their families yesterday and when Ed saw me with my arm in a sling he thought it was a joke having something to do with the bus incident. I think it'll be a lifetime before I live that one down. <:)
Mairkurion, don't worry. I'm mostly harmless (though my foes are mostly armless).

OK. I have to ask--why was your arm in a sling? I've got to imagine there's a story there.

Mairkurion {tm} |

He beat up a blind person so severely he injured his arm. I'm tellin' ya, man, this whole "I'm a nice guy who helps LOLs across the street and people with vehicle breakdowns" was just a carefully crafted image, a facade over pure long-haired rage!

The Jade |

Good lookin' out Cpt!
Mairkurion, you've cracked me up multiply tonight. And it's deaf people who seem put off by me. Blind people actually like the way I never shut up... they use my neverending blather like a lighthouse for the purpose of navigation.
And taig, as for the mystery of the wounded wing, near as I can figure it's a repetetive stress injury from typing and podcast mixing in less than ergonomically sound ways. Despite vision not being a problem, I've been typing with the laptop closer to my face over the last year, and this causes me to type close... real close, like with Tyrannosaur arms close.
It's been getting slowly worse over the last five month it's so bad now that I've taken to trying a few different slings and wearing heating pads regularly. My problem is that the second it stops hurting I go right back to lifting heavy objects and other sure signs of incurable daftness.

I hope you get on a more permanent mend.
Thanks. :)
Yeah, the man gene ain't no none be too bright sometimes. No it don't be not, it don't.

Just had the chance to listen to #032, and I'm diggin' the Rollins reference. Props, Ed!
Rollins plays a bad bad man on this season of Sons of Anarchy on FX channel. It's only two shows in thus far, but he's already managed to be the creepiest thing that's ever been on a show full of bikers, gangs bangers, drug abuse, porn sets, graphic murders and white supremacists. Really good casting choice. He's intense.

I dragged my copy of Art to Choke Hearts off the shelf this week. Pretty good book, if you like Rollins's written stuff.

Good s*~%. Adam Daigle actually sent me an old "Pissing in the Gene Pool" T-shirt about a year ago, along with a copy of "Live at McCabe's".
I have copies of Get in the Van, Solipsist, Do I Come Here Often?, Black Coffee Blues, and A Dull Roar, and I have Eye Scream and a few others on order.

Sons of Anarchy is one of the few shows on television that I would actually watch. Well, if I had a TV.

Enjoyed the latest, per usual. Too tired to remember anything in particular though, which sounds bad, but is just how blasted my mind is right now. Darn thinkin' and communicatin' all day. (Listened while washing up, shaving, etc this mornin'.)
Nice of you to say. Thank you, sir. :)

Mairkurion {tm} |

Wait...I'm starting to remember things. I'm making a practice now of going up to people and saying things like, "It's a quarter to 4, remember that you saw me here now" and stuff like that.
Also, was it just me, or were the FantasyCraft peeps really playing down that they were building off the 3.5/d20 system? And if so, why?
Man, I really need a nap.

I asked Patrick and Alex about that, myself. Basically, they told me that they try really hard not to tell people why not to buy other games - they prefer to focus on their own. That seemed to mean, in practice, that they shied away from mentioning the OGL or any other system for that matter.
I wouldn't read too much into it, other than that the Crafty Games guys are nice and don't want to find fault with the competition.

Atomic Array episode 33
Ed, I dismissed "The Others" as another atmospheric ghost story movie that seemed popular around that time, so I never watched it. I'll have to check it out.
Rone, I liked your rant, even though it was less of a rant, and more of a "Hey, kids. Your uncle Rone made some mistakes, and he doesn't want you to go down the same road. So listen up." It was very heartfelt, IMO.
Good show, guys!

The Jade |

Thanks for checking it out (past or future tense), guys.
This was a fun episode. Best easter egg yet in my opinion, after the theme music plays out. Tom Lynch sang 'Feelings' while alone but I got it recorded and turned it into something. I hope he forgives me. <:)
BTW, I truly appreciate you folks so often taking the time to give me your impressions on the show. If not for you I'd be flying blind out here with no sense of what was ever working and why. Podcasts can be a very insular artistic experiment, and that can put you further from the reward you're really looking for, that of knowing you entertained someone.

I saw The Others in a theater and quite liked it. My only grievance was just how de rigueur the theme was at that very time in cinema, so I'm with you on that point completely. Still, I thought it rose above its commercial timeliness.
I'm really glad you enjoyed my rant that was not quite a rant. I knew I was headed into different territory but there were just some things I felt needed to say on the subject. I was afraid I jumped a curb with this one and that people might be turned off by just how committed I was to a deeply emotional focus.
Having to think up stuff that annoys me every two weeks is sometimes annoying. Hey, my next rant! These stupid rants themselves! ;)
