Green Ronin's Mythic Vista's Black Company Campaign Setting offers the ranger several combat styles in addition to the standard archery or two-weapon fighting builds.
I strongly suggest that the Pathfinder RPG follow their lead in making the ranger more flexible in regard to combat styles. The ranger shouldn't be limited to only choosing archery or two-weapon fighting.
Please,take this into consideration.
Thank you.

Agreed! There was a lot of discussion about this when the Ranger came out in Alpha 3. Some people were even opposed to the idea! Although, I still don't fully understand why. I'd love to see some more styles, especially a mounted style.
But as the Beta has already gone to the printers, we'll have to wait and see what they've (Paizo) done. Keep the faith!
Peace,

I kind of wish they had one or two more myself. I wouldn't mind seeing a spear style or staff style since they're both fairly "outdoorsy" and mesh well with the Ranger style.
I don't want to see somebody go overboard though and make up 10 new styles for each weapon combo or potential weapon. I really think keeping styles thematic is important.

Paizo has already done this once.... In Dragon magazine.... which is owned by WoTc$ and as such they can't use that material. Which is why it isn't in the alpha. (or so is my guess) If you want these I am sure they have some copies they would love to sell you.
And I do own it. My collection of Dragon magazines is too large to even admit to.
Re-use of material is only re-use if you completely copy the text, context, etc. Re-imagining rules that used both the original 3.5 material and the Dungeon material would hardly be considered something they couldn't use. They're already using concepts presented in Dragon (sorcerer backgrounds for example) which are being re-engineered for the new system. I'm just saying it would be nice if they think of a Pathfinder compatible system which allowed for a little more variation.

The Devastator combat style:
2nd Level - Cleave, Improved Sunder, Power Attack, or Overhand Chop
6th Level - Backswing or Great Cleave
11th Level - Devastating Blow or Vital Strike
The Brawler combat style:
2nd Level - Improved Grapple, Improved Unarmed Strike, Scorpion Style, or Throw Anything
6th Level - Caught Off Guard or Gorgon's Fist
11th Level - Medusa's Wrath or Razor Sharp Chair Leg
Really, new combat styles are not that hard to whip up. Whether or not they're in the final version of Pathfinder (and I hope at least one or two more are), it's not all that hard to do on our own.
Edit: Even the alternate combat styles in Dragon 326 are 3.5 styles, one set feat at each level, rather than the choices we have under Pathfinder styles, so new ones are needed regardless of reprinting WotC-owned content or not.

How about these combat style options?
If the ranger selects riding, then he can choose from the following list whenever he gains a combat style feat: Mounted Combat, Mounted Archery, Mounted Casting, and Skill Focus (Ride). At 6th level, he adds the following feats to his list: Ride-By Attack and Trample. At 11th level, he adds the following feats to his list: Spirited Charge and Improved Mounted Archery.
If the ranger selects skirmishing, then he can choose from the following list whenever he gains a combat style feat: Weapon Finesse, Dodge, Combat Expertise, and Dash. At 6th level, he adds the following feats to his list: Mobility and Improved Feint. At 11th level, he adds the following feats to his list: Spring Attack and Whirlwind Attack.

Personally, I just wish the ranger received BOTH of the combat style feat trees, rather than choosing one or the other. I like the idea that the ranger is good with ranged combat and with light melee weapons at the same time. It wouldn't be overpowered for the class, as being great at both feat trees requires that you have significantly different abilities and feats, which are always in limited supply.
As for creating other styles, I agree that these are pretty easy for a DM to come up with. There are a few levels where bonus feats become an option, and the DM need only put a list of feats together.

Nothing stops the Ranger from taking the other style's feats with PC feats every 3rd (or in PRPG every 2nd) level. There's plenty of feat slots available to have both styles, and actually the Class ones are somewhat weaker in that they are armor-limited.
Getting one for "free" is a nice bonus. However, look at the big picture.
