Paizo Staff and 4e?

4th Edition

I was just wondering. Would Erik Mona, James Jacobs, or any other staff members at Paizo play (or DM) in a regular 4E campaign game if the opportunity presented itself?

Unless this is an actual invite, it would appear to be a set-up or bait to be used for either pro-4e cheerleading or to sandbag them for going "on the record" against 4e. I mean, assuming the intent behind the question is completely innocent, what's the real point of this question?

I don't know any of the Paizo staff personally nor do I presume to speak for them. However, as gamers and employees in a role-playing game company, why on earth would you think they wouldn't play/DM 4e if they A) had the time, B) liked 4e well enough to play in or DM a campaign?

In other words, why would they be any different than any of their customers?

That was my thought, too, "B".
Hopefully they'll ignore this thread... or close it down. :-)

Hey, I'm about to start a 4e summer campaign in the Tacoma area. Erik, James and the others, consider this an invite.

What are y'all doing this Saturday? (and...umm...you haven't played Keep on the Shadowfells yet, have you?)

Well first off I was just curious.

Secondly, I just wanted to make a point that it's ok to like both Pathfinder and 4E. They are not oil and water like some may feel around here.

Thirdly, if anyone from Paizo is in Texas your invited to play in my 4E campaign anytime. :)

I got an idea. Why don't we kidnap the Paizo staff and force them to run a convention for us? I don't care the edition. We make them play until we get tired. Kind of a D&D version of Misery or Deliverance.

A hobbled person can still DM right?

I am looking forward to playing the game.

Given how much effort WotC put into making sure we couldn't see it early, I'm guessing it's really something!

I'm looking forward to seeing the books. :)

We did that. But if you bribe them with cookies, they'll come willingly. :D

Ok, fair enough.

I have, unfortunately, surrendered to the impulse to ask the following:

Will you pose the same question to the WotC folks? 'Cause that scenario/curiosity should be a two-way street.

I think most of the WoTC play 4e already, considering their numerous blogs about it... ;)

Sure. I will post it tonight.

Funny!

As for the WoTC and PRPG, well see the interview in Kobold Quarterly 5 for the chances of that event ever being announced...

Touche, my friend, touche. Nicely, played. ;)

I guess I should have said, "Will you ask the WotC staff if they are open to playing/GMing PATHFINDER."

Sorry mate, couldn't resist :)

As for the whole playing the "other team"'s game, I don't see why not. Isn't Mearls and Mona friends of sorts? Or maybe they just have friends in common, like Monte and Dancey? Of course I could be totally wrong here, my brain might have processed too much info and whiskey at the same time.

Maybe it is time to hit the sack... *ponders*

edit: I really suck at getting the quote tags right.. sigh

There are lots of cross-company friendships, though I won't lie by saying 4e and the cancellations of the magazines haven't strained them a bit. Still, there are several active Pathfinder campaigns (the AP, not the RPG) going on at Wizards from what I hear, and I am certain someone will start up a 4e game at Paizo once we buy it with everyone else at Barnes & Noble or wherever you actually buy WotC products (I haven't had to do that in 9 years, but I guess I'd better start now!).

That would require additional bribes of plane tickets, hotel rooms, and some more days added to the calendar.

Why do you guys need a Customer Service Representative? You got Linda and everyone else working the boards? OK, maybe you want to sleep. Or was it our bad behavior on the boards and you need a baby sitter for us?

Actually, I have been invited to play in a couple of 4E games with the Wotc folk already. I do plan to take them up on their offer, as soon as other issues finally get resolved.

I like all games, for the most part.

Right now I'm on Day 4 of vacation in Minnesota, so I blame the spatial displacement.

Of course I'll get it from Paizo.com, the best online retail store in gaming! :)

Spoiler:

Its been a while since I used an obscure SNL reference

I'm none of the Paizooties mentioned in the OP, but I've also been invited to play in a 4E game with a friend at WotC. We start a week from Saturday, in fact. Said WotC employee is in my Thursday night Pathfinder RPG game running through Curse of the Crimson Throne.

So there it is.

And Jason isn't allowed to join a game until he starts his in-office Pathfinder RPG Beta game.

Staaaaaart iiiiiiiit. (After June 13.)

If I had a chance to play in a 4e campaign, I'd go for it. Hell, if someone came along and wanted to run a 1e/2e/MERP campaign, I'd play in that. Any RPG, really. This hobby is not about the game system, but about the gaming and time with friends and having fun. There's not enough of that, IMO.

Hey man what part? I live in SE MN myself.

I'm not sure what would draw one to vacation here though, unless its family or friends.

On the other hand if he's willing to vacation here perhaps its not too much of a stretch to hope we could get Paizo people at our convention here.

Ooooh! Total burn.

The game's okay, but nothing worth cancelling two magazines over. If they'd had any brains they would have done a WotC/Paizo 4E Release Extravaganza.
