Hello everyone,
I'm going to present this world of Korvosa to my players (for the time of my life as a GM for D&D)and I wanted to know one thing, Is ti posssible for one of my player to be graduated by the Acadamea? Because it'is described as the lair of the devil, so if one of my heroe studied in it academy, isn't it too strange? Shouldn't I lead him to choose being graduate by the Theumanexus college (but give him the feat "Acadamae graduate", because his PC could have succeed in it but didn't want to carry on?
Thaks a lot for helping me!

While the focus of the Academae has been primarily one of conjuration since Cheliax fell under the diabolical influence of House Thrune, the other schools of magic are still taught. It's not a requirement for a graduate to be a diabolocist, though their time there would certainly grant them a certain "insider" knowledge into their practices, and might have even influenced them in ways they aren't aware of. Check out the Guide to Korvosa for more information on the magical schools of Korvosa, their students, and their relationships to one another.

Yes, what yoda8myhead said. A character can easily graduate from the Acadamae and not be a diabolist. You could even have a LG student of the Acadamae (in fact, LG students have an easier time of it than CE, CG, or CN students, because the Acadamae is so regimented it doesn't put up with chaotic goofiness). So yeah, there should be no problem at all with a 1st-level character having Acadamae Graduate, even if he's good-aligned and even if he's not a devil worshiper. You'd actually have to stretch for a reason he graduated more if he's chaotic. :)

One of my players has made a NG conjurer who is an Acadamae graduate (though he doesn't have the feat). Basically he swings wildly between law and chaos (being a chaotic conjurer is a bad plan, he'll always stick to a contract, and he's a very hard worker who can thrive in a regimented environment if he agrees with it or wants to be there, but he's got a bit of a f&@* the establishment-style inner chaotic streak), and I've ruled that he can summon fiendish creatures without affecting his alignment as long as he doesn't use them exclusively, he uses them appropriately and he doesn't use any spell which involves making deals or that there is a chance of the creature breaking free from for summoning evil creatures, that way he's basically just wasting the summoned creature's time.
Being LE is hardly a requirement of the Acadamae, it technically isn't an evil place, it just attracts a lot of evil types with the devil summoning, and when you're exposed to infernal influences it's easy to slip towards evil. I don't think the character even needs to be ok with devil summoning, the fact is that it's a very prestigious magical college, far more so than Theumanexus, and once you're in, dropping out is a very poor option since those who don't graduate tend to go missing... but yeah, basically being a good-aligned character who graduated from a college with evil tendencies just requires some interesting backstory. :)
I would say that you'd have to attend the Acadamae to get the feat, since it's very flavoured towards the training the Acadamae provides, so it wouldn't make much sense for someone who didn't go there to have it. But of course, you're the GM, so if it makes sense to you then go for it!

I have a hard time understanding how a good character can thrive in or even tolerate the Acadamae environment that has been painted so far.
Yeap.. it's like a good necromancer to me.

Necessity. Prestige. Not caring.
It's easy for lawful characters of any good/evil orientation to thrive at the Acadamae. Do LG characters like all the devil-binding crap? No, not at all. Unless they're summoners, though, they don't really have to deal with it all that much (except for their final exams, of course). I imagine that there are few conjurers who graduate from the Acadamae who are good (they might be good going in, but not coming out). The other seven schools of magic are also represented, though, and students of those schools can be good upon graduation.

I used to work in Law Enforcement, and Administration was pretty whacked sometimes.
I ended up promoting, and I like to think I did some good before I froze my retirement and started another career. Someone once asked me why I would promote and 'join the Dark Side.'
(There is a point here, hang with me)
Well, no indifference to George Lucas, sometimes the best way to change a system is from within. If there's an absence of good leadership, there's a motivation right there.
Now apply that to Acadamae, particularly to a young person who isn't jaded yet, or (on the other hand) might be naive.
