Alpha 2, page 33:
(a) If a wizard attempts to cast a spell without his bonded object worn or in hand, he must make a Spellcraft check or lose the spell. The DC for this check is equal to 20 + the spell’s level.
(b) A bonded object can be used once per day to cast any one spell that the wizard knows, just as if the wizard had cast it. [...]
Queries:
1. In rule (a), can you confirm that the bonded object works as an optional arcane spell focus?
2. In rule (b), what is the nature of the bonded object? It seems to be a mix between a special type of spellbook, since it has access to the spells in the wizard's primary spellbook and a new type of magic item. The wording makes it difficult to figure out the nature of the magic item.
The most conservative reading would indicate that the object is a spell trigger item storing all the spells from the wizard's spellbook. It is usable once per day. The wizard uses the bonded object in the same way as he'd use a regular wand to cast one of the spells it stored.
If this reading is true, what happens when the wizard's spellbook is lost or destroyed? Is the aura of the bonded item as strong as the object's caster level or as the highest level spell it stores?
