I have a crazy idea. Given how good base classes are in pathfinder what about cutting feat and skill requirements from Prestige classes. Instead make them Low, Medium or High level requirement. Meaning you must be 5, 10 or 15th level to start taking that PrC.
That will eliminate the jockeying for entrance into prestige classes. The class itself will limit who wants to take it.

Hmm, it's an interesting take. It's very much like the SWSE method of doing prestige classes. The only problem I see with it is that it makes it a little more generic to take a PrC, which is kind of a way of making your character more specific (ie, instead of being a mere fighter, your character is now a Knight of the Old Kingdom, etc).
It also makes it slightly tougher for players to see what builds work well with the PrC's intended target, since the skill and feat requirements are a quick way to glance at a class and see what it's about, and if it's something you'd be interested in without a thorough reading of all of the class abilities. On the other hand, you should thoroughly read a PrC before deciding if it's something you want or not, since taking one should be a big deal for a character.
While I think it's an intriguing idea as an optional rule, I don't think it really fits with Pathfinder's "backwards compatibility" design ideology. Maybe put it in the GM's section as a sidebar?
