Any word on when the release date is?

Also, any idea on how different it will be from v.1? I'm wondering if the changes will be minimal or radical. And how complete 1.2 will look as a final product?

It won't be anymore "complete" then it is now. Once they're happy with 1.x they'll add new stuff and we'll get version 2.0.
