A lot of people (myself included) would love to see the skill point vs. skill proficiency thing settled in Alpha 1.2, but maybe it's still too early to make a decision that final. A while back, in another thread, you posted the following four options you were working with:
1. Pathfinder: The system presented in Skills chapter of the Pathfinder RPG.
2. 3.5 OGL:The system presented in the 3.5 OGL.
3. Combination: Using the system in the 3.5 OGL for characters, and using the system in the Skills chapter of the Pathfinder RPG for NPCs and monsters ...
4. Hybrid System: In this system ...
0 ranks – Untrained: Bonus = ability modifier + racial modifiers (or modifiers)
1 ranks – Trained: Bonus = 1/2 your character level + modifiers
2 ranks – Skilled: Bonus = your character level + modifiers
3 ranks – Expert: Bonus = your character level + 3 + modifiers
4 ranks – Master: Bonus = your character level +6 + modifiers
A lot of great ideas have come out to improve each one. Maybe the thing to do is formalize each of these systems and come up with three or four 'proposals.' People could stop fiddling 'cause we'd have a semi-final draft of each one and get to play testing. Give people a couple of months to play through several levels and then decide which one to go with (or a way for people to use whichever one they want through optional rules, sidebars, etc.). Give each one a name for easy reference, something catchy like System A, System B and System C (gotta' drop people's names so this doesn't become a popularity contest, my guy vs. yours), start a thread for play test results of each one, and let people play for a while.
