I could have sworn under 3.5 that since a sunder, disarm, etc. action was an "attack option," that you could aid another in order to give them a bonus to this option. But I have also heard some people post opinions that these, and grapple, for example, are not valid options for aid another.
I wanted to make sure that you can aid another in most combat manuevers (and to see if grapple is suppose to be a "special case.")
One of the reasons that I'm concerned about his is that the PCs may, if I run things as I've written them in my campaign, run into a hydra. The CMB defense of the hydra is 25.
As a CR 5 creature, five 3rd level characters should be able to handle it, but 25 is a pretty steep challenge when the goliath only gets +7, and the paladin gets a +8. With the cleric, gnome, and bard "holding it down," i.e. aiding another, they would have a +6, meaning that they have an almost 50/50 chance to sunder against a head.
So, aid another on a CMB?

I hate bumping my own posts, but I really am curious as to if this has come up with anyone else yet. Thanks all.
Whether or not it's RAW, it makes sense to me that Combat Maneuvers that are essentially one-on-one, like Bull Rush or Disarm, would not be eligible. Grapple, however, I'd think would be okay.

Well, in general you have to be adjacent to someone to aid them, so it would be hard to aid someone in a charge or move action dependent maneuver.
However, if you can't aid another on adjacent maneuvers, the hydra becomes a big problem for its CR, because it becomes nearly impossible to sunder the thing's heads by yourself at its CR.
