Experiences with "The List" (my players stay out!) (spoilers)

Rise of the Runelords

As you might know, I ran with the idea of keeping a "Sacrifice List" to award one of my players' characters "Human(oid) Sacrifice" Status in PF#3, instead of going with the standar sacrifice in the Module.

I liked the idea because that way, the other characters will have a very personal interest in seeing the BBEG and his minions pay for their crimes.

Next week we start with Hook Mountain Massacre, and if things go well, I might to finally let in my players into my little secret (I told them that I keep a list, but not what it was, and they've been dying of curiosity - of course, one of the characters will literally die of curiosity soon!), and I'm exited.

I had to "disqualify" one character because the players made a point of mistrusting him (because he's a rogue *rollseyes*), but right now, the priest is leading, which is funny, since I though he wouldn't even seriously compete!

It's not so bad, though, since I think that this player will be really good at roleplaying the occasional appearances of his former PC's ghost.

Anyway, the whole thing already was very entertaining, and I can't wait to see their faces.

Sounds intriguing. However, what do you mean by "Sacrifice List?" I'm running through PF 3 right now and my players are exploring the Graul farmstead.

There was an idea to let the players decide - through their actions - who of them will be sacrificed.

LOL

Your a bit creepy aren't you?

I love the idea! Good one.

KaeYoss:
Do I understand correctly, that you are referring to a particular sacrifice in a particular area in a particular Thassilonian monument?

A bit? A BIT?

(Actually, I was just testing whether my players would actually stay out. I haven't actually taken notes on who to sacrifice. Yet... I do give myself the best ideas.)

I admire your creativity, and their openess.. Really if this goes well, they deserve a round of applause, from you, for being good sports.

Not every group could handle this, or be willing to put up with it. Not because of the quality of any given player, but rather the fact that one of them will not end up being the protagonists of their own personal stories.

Someone will be serving to enrich the experience of others with only a fleeting moment of credit for themselves, and that's really noble to accept gracefully.

Or does the sacrificed player get a means to get back in the game in another way?

This is not a slam BTW. I think it's awesome if it works. I'm just pointing out that this level of sportmanship shouldn't be taken for granted.

My players don't know anything about this - unless they have peeked.

The idea was to post something outrageous (in the hope that the rest of you "in the know" about "the list" - no, don't comment at all about what sort of list Rise of the Runelords encourages us to do - would play along) and see whether my players would act strange in the next game session.

Just a check to see whether they're the sort that can be trusted or if I have to arbitrarily punish them for their transgressions.

Ah!

Not a word I will say!
