Hi guys,
I can see why Concentration was scrapped - it was a one trick pony. That being said, in the interests of keeping Pathfinder as backwards compatable as possible, I'd boost Concentration rather than fold it into a skill that's already very valuable.
Here's what I recommend:
- Use Concentration of 10 + CMB to cast spells defensively
- Use Concentration of 20 + CMB to perform *any* action that would provoke an attack of opportunity defensively
- Allow a synergy bonus, where 5 ranks of Concentration get you a +1 to Will saves.
- If you were feeling bold, you could even allow a Concentration check to overcome a condition (Hold Person) or regain consciousness (someone dying who has stabilized).
That in itself makes Concentration worthwhile. In 3.5, all the pseudo-casters, like rangers and paladins and bards get Concentration, so they will benefit from this upgraded skill.
I'm not horribly against Concentration going away, I'm just thinking if it stays, and it can stay and be fixed, it makes the upgrade to Pathfinder RPG more transparent, and more compatable with all the material out there.
