Archade's Skill Feedback - Appraise

Hi guys,

Here's my feedback on Skills so far:

Appraise - I see what you are trying to do here, but I'm not sure that Appraise is the place to identify magic items - I actually would keep this in Spellcraft, or even in Knowledge (arcana).

That being said, I like the scaling DCs for values of more expensive items.

However, no one ever takes appraise, because in 3.5, it's lame.

I would recommend this:

Hunt for Bargains: You can make a DC 20 Appraise check to purchase any non-magical, non-masterwork item or service under 100 gp at a 10% discount.
On a DC 25 Appraise check, you may purchase any masterwork or non-magical item under 500 gp at a 10% discount.
If you can make a DC 30 Appraise check, you may purchase any magical or non-magical item under 1000 gp at a 10% discount.
For every increase of the DC by 5, you can increase the gp limit for a discount by 500 gp. For every increase of the DC by 10, you may add a further 10% discount.

Starting Wealth: If a new character has ranks in Appraise, they may start with additional starting wealth to represent their canny deals in the past. They may add to their starting gold 20 gp X their starting level X their ranks in Appraise.

I can't agree.

Appraising items for value, worth, properties, makes sense in appraise to me. NPCs should be able to appraise magic items, and know all about them if they sell them, even if they know nothing about magic. And this happens with the appraise skill.

I think its supposed to represent the idea that people familair with things can understand them. Like how track was removed so that people with survival can just find footprints.

It makes logical sense since the 3.5 world is filled with non-mundane items, mundane people should have a firm idea of how they work.
