World content in the rulebook ?

Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

I guess that absolutely nothing is decided regarding the inclusion of game world specific information into the Pathfinder rulebook in 2009.
I would advice to keep this content minimal - of course, it is THE place to advertise the setting, OTOH, having a 3.x/OGL rulebook available when the original D&D rulebooks are out of print might appeal to a lot of players wanting to keep to 3.x rules.

I'm sure they'll take the 3.0 model and only use setting material when they need examples, like gods.

I think so, too. But I thought it worth mentioning nevertheless.

I believe our intent is to only include our core pantheon, because clerics need gods to worship. ;)

Sounds fantastic.

Awww, but what if I don't want a god and just want to be a cleric of smurfiness.

Personally, I understand Paizo's desire to be the "big" 3.5 book after Wizards moves on, but I wish that the Pathfinder RPG was filled with universe specific rules. I'm not looking for the Pathfinder RPG as a solution for my own campaign (and if I was, I feel like I could rework the specifics to what I wanted), I want the best possible system for the modules and adventures and products that Paizo wants to make.

I'd love to get the sort of focused content that you get from Pathfinder (formerly Dungeon and Dragon), but on an ever wider level.

There will be an enormous amount of this type of material in Pathfinder itself, in the Pathfinder Chronicles line, and in the Pathfinder Companion. More to the point, there most likely be follow-up Pathfinder RPG books with new rules additions, expansions, etc. Stuff like classes and alternate races and the like.

We first need to make sure that the core foundation is solid, but we won't stop there.

I think it's preferable to use a specific name in an example for the rules instead of just writing "a big city" or something like that. But that should be the limit of inclusion of setting-specific stuff in a rulebook.

I strongly agree that the Pathfinder RPG Rulebook be as campaign setting light as possible. The gods are fine, just like the current PHB has the Greyhawk gods.

If you want seting info there will be the Setting Hardcover or the Gazzeteer.

Id like to see the Pathfinder RPG Rulebook being used by as many D&D players as possible as a substutute to 4th edition and as a means to continue playign 3rd edition.
Id hate to see the book make people assume they had to play in Golarion to use it.

I'm sure that option will be supported. :)

Smurferrific!!!!

I hate to make a "ditto" post, but...

I agree. No setting material in the rulebook, please.
