Lisa and Erik, I keep my word...

In the gut check thread I posted this (as my super-sekrit alias!):

My purchases of Paizo RPG products will continue at their current pace. I will see you, however, and raise you that if you *don't* convert, I will subscribe to Gamemastery modules instead of buying them piecemeal.

I am true to my word and have now subscribed to Pathfinder Modules and will be all in for the Pathfinder RPG.

Congratulations on your new business endeavor, and best of luck.

Not to pump us up too much, but you have a fantastic community of fiercely loyal customers, and I think you will do well.

Long live Paizo and Pathfinder,

~justin

Woot! Thanks, Justin. :)

Thanks for your support, Justin!

I'm afraid I can't keep my word.

In the gut check thread, I said I was going 4e (while keeping my Pathfinder subscription). I should instead have said "I follow Paizo." On the news of your bold direction, I've subscribed to the rest of the Pathfinder items, and 4e is fading in the rearview.

Duplicity has never felt so (lawful) good. :D

I feel the same way, I was probably going to give 4E a chance and just see how things went. Now, I'm sticking with 3.Paizo. I haven't been this excited about the industry in years, I can't wait to see what the future holds.

I've been up over 24 hour right now, and I need to get some sleep, but...

Wow.

I'm really excited about this. I briefly scanned the Pathfinder PDF, and I can't wait to read in detail later.

I also said I would probably convert to 4e, but right now I'm glad I haven't pre-ordered the 4e core books. From the looks of things, I'm not going to need it.

Thanks, and (to steal a page from Marvel Comics) make mine Paizo!

Likewise, I am now a superscriber. I have preordered 2 copies of the beta and 1 of the PF RPG coming next year.

You have my "collection" money from this point on.

Thank you so very much for making this difficult yet exciting decision.

To those looking foreward to 4e: See you in the game stores and at the conventions, and best of luck with your game. Maybe we'll sling some dice sometime.

As am I; I said I didn't care what way Paizo went, I was in it for the cool world material. They just happened to go a way that has me surprised, flat-footed, and quite pleased.

Sir, your amiable attitude toward those looking forward to 4e is a credit to the spirit of good sportsmanship. With the PF RPG, what little interest I held in 4e has largely evaporated, but I'll second your words - fans of 4e are welcome at my table, and I'm willing to give it a shot if invited to a game of 4e.

Alas, I can't mirror the OP; I'm already subscribed to everything. I've preordered the Beta and the final release, and I'm working on scraping up a group to playtest with; so far I think I have two people intrigued...

Just want to say that I am totally blown away by this decission!
I never dared dreaming this move!
I hope it will last, and as other posters said here: I only remember being so excited about RPG when I discovered RPGs in general! After all these years of RPG (95% D&D in all it's colors and variations) I am so happy being able to be part of this!
I know my hobby is in the best hands it could possibly be, and I try to get more players to this hobby and Paizo/Pathfinder especially! I don't want Paizo to regret this move!
Thanx for listening to us, and hopefully 3E and 4E players can communicate here like friends, helping each other out with tips on converting and whatnot!

Grinning-all-day-long,
Tom

Well, I'm very pleased. I said I'd stick with Paizo in a couple threads. Sadly I thought that meant that I was going to end up switching over to a Planet Stories subscriptions. Now I can honestly say that I'll probably be adding one (maybe two) more subscriptions to my account....
sadly, not till July, as I'm moving then and don't want to add the subscriptions till I have firmly secured employment.

But yes... Yes. I'll very happily continue to support Paizo.

Like the Prodigal Son, I have returned to my Pathfinder subscription with this bold announcement from Paizo. And, yes, I was all excited for 4e (to the point that I canceled my charter subscription all too hastily).

But when I finally realized that almost all of the material I have used for my D&D game for years has been from Paizo, coming home again was a no-brainer.

Golarion is a true delight and finding a way to spare it a dramatic and distasteful overhaul for 4e is cause for celebration, indeed.

Down with the Revolution! Long Live the Evolution!

I'm keeping my word. I cancelled all my orders for paizo products.

Ok you did it. I said it back in the original thread from Eric Mona Kenobi, that if Pathfinder stuck with 3.5 compatibility for its core mechanic I would go all in. So I am officially subscribing to your entire pathfinder line of products (companion, chronicles, RPG, and whatever else you have). I am putting my money where my mouth is and going all in. I have only looked at the alpha version of the RPG, but it is freaking awesome based on what I have seen. Thank you for saving the game for an old grognard that did not want to switch to 4th edition. I can't think of a better steward for the game I love.

I LOVE the improvements you have made in the alpha test, and I will read it thoroughly to add my thoughts later as I have time. I think this alpha playtest shows how great a game can be made when great designers (you guys) take a product that was already good, and make it better. No throwing out of 30 years of tradition. No telling the fans of this game that their opinions aren't valid because they aren't a 14 year old who prefers their tabletop RPG to play like a video game. Most of all, you guys listened.

It would have been easy to just accept 4th edition, let WotC do the design work, and try to benefit from the new customers WotC's 4th edition will bring in. Instead though, you decided to make a product superior to 4th edition. You decided instead of following the beaten path you would forge a new path of your own. It took guts. It took courage. But most of all, it took a vision. You guys have earned every penny of my money that I will pay. I am all in and 100% behind your entire product line. Way to go guys!!!!!!

Finally... THANK YOU! Thank you for saving my favorite game. Thank you for returning happiness to my thoughts when I think about my leisure time in the 4th edition vacuum. Everything I need to play the game is right here at Paizo. I will not be spending a penny on WotC products and will put that money to use on your product lines. You are a company that is all about your customers. That is the sort of business philosophy I can throw my full support behind. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us!!!!

Brent Holmes - D&D Gamer for 2.5 decades and still counting thanks to you. WotC may own D&D's name, but you have shown that you are going to save its soul.

Now that's a gutcheck decision to make, Paizo, and I wholeheartedly applaud you for it. Not many companies have the jimmies to stick with an OOP system these days, so I hope your decision turns out to be fruitful and prosperous.

I, being of sound 2e mind and heart, still cringe at 3e materials and the work it entails converting it to 2e, but knowing what limited information I have about 4e, I wasn't looking forward to having to do it yet again with 4e at all. I think Paizo's decision to move to 4e would have been the final nail in my overall gaming coffin.

David Pawley wrote:

David,

We're sorry to see you go. We knew this decision wouldn't be for everyone and we're sorry to see any of our long time subscribers leave the fold. You're always welcome here and hopefully you'll give the Alpha and Beta playtests of PRPG a shot and let us know what you think.

Thanks!

Well done Paizo!

I had been buying all your PF adventures from my FLGS. But with your recent announcement, I'm keeping my promise to support those companies that actually prove they know what I am looking for as a gamer. I have now signed up as a new subscriber as well.

Paizo has proven to me that they know what I am looking for. From the outstanding adventures, exciting worlds, built in electronic support and now a new edition of my favorite system that will be backwards compatible .... All I have to say is THANK YOU.

I don't remember ever making any promises to PAIZO, but I do applaud your choice to stay with 3E. Thanks to the OGL I think you will have a lot more success than many believe. Will you replace WOTC and 4E? No, probably not even close. PAIZO has, however, made a lot of 3E people happy and relax a bit about their decision to not "move on" with 4E. Now they don't feel like they are abandoning a hobby or feel that they are being abandoned by a hobby. They are now supporting and part of a vibrant 3E community with a company to support, and that supports them.

So thanks PAIZO for having the guts to go in your own direction, and I hope you are well rewarded for your boldness.

As for me, don't worry, I play Castles and Crusades, so I was keeping my PF subscription anyways. I do promise that when my finances improve that I will subscribe to more, and hunt down and buy whatever I miss in the mean time.

So congratulations, I wish you the best, and I am still here for the long haul.

Scarab Sages

I just wanted to say that I am hoping to become a superscriber soon (by May) as a sign of my support and appreciation.

In the meantime, I have preordered the Pathfinders hardcover RPG rulebook. I have never before ordered a book over a year in advance but I wanted the good people of Paizo that they will have my support over the long haul so long as they continue the quality work they are doing now.

Dark Archive

You guys have my credit card on file indefinitely!!!!

Thanks for supporting a 3.5ish system......

I have sunscribed as well. :)

I second that! Hip! Hip! Hazzah!

Now all I need to do is get my ca$h ready come 2009.

Dark Archive

I can't remember exactly what I promised.

Anyway, I'm still here, and with two new subscriptions. My attitude on Companion has moved from "don't need it" to "wait and see", so I might get the superscriber tag yet.

Just thought I'd drop by and say that the Pathfinder RPG announcemnet has made my mind up for me - I think its now safe to say I'll definitely be staying 3.5/Pathfinder as my preferred game. I expect I'l still buy the 4e core books to read, but I see our group staying with Paizo for regular gaming.

In celebration I've just subscribed to the Pathfinder Modules line. Go Paizo.

Well, I did not make the same pledge as the OP, but I’m going to support Paizo as much as I can. To that end I had a discussion with the owner of my FLGS. I’m committed to buying Paizo’s great products. I told him that I would gladly buy my Paizo products from him. In the near future one of two things will happen: (1) either Paizo will be contacted by the owner of Hawgs Head comics in Fort Smith, AR regarding becoming a distributor of your fine products or (2) I will become a multiple subscriber.

:D

He'll actually need to contact one of our distributors. He can find a list of our current distributors here.

Jackpot. I hit the jackpot. In that thread I wrote:

DM Jeff wrote:

I will continue all my subscriptions and joyfully purchase all my gaming supplies exclusively from the Paizo store in thanks.

And not only have I ante'd up and done so, but then Paizo announced for superscribers a discount on all items in their store, making the promist twice as sweet. Pathfinder is already looking awesome and this is the most excitement news for gaming since 1999. The future's so bright...

While I never made any promises regarding any of this, Paizo's announcement of sticking with 3.5 and especially their efforts to update them and improve the few things that were broken has really reinvigorated my love for the game and I've since subscribed to all their Pathfinder products after making the Dungeon/Dragon conversion to Pathfinder last summer. If I had made a promise to subscribe to more products, I would have more than followed through. Keep up the good work, Paizo!

A couple of days ago I became a modules subsciber.

Part of it was indeed to support Paizo's decision, but part of it was the appeal of the free pdf. ;)

Liberty's Edge

If you are keeping a count... I renewed my PF subscription once I heard the news... I can imagine you all lost some sleep on this one, but I want to assure you that as much as you have stood by us, we will stand by you. 3 cheers for your excellence!

VERY impressed with my first volume (Crimson Throne). Outstanding quality. I was even given a free Item Card pack in my first package!

May want to subscribe to Chronicles too. Can shipping be made cheaper for Canadians? As it stands, it is cheaper to buy in bulk from Amazon.ca and get free shipping.

I second that...even in terms of the renewal!

I canceled after the first adventure path, dreading 4e...with Pathfinder going along 3.5 OGL, I was back onboard immediately.

The true evolution of D&D is happening here, at Paizo.

Thank you, Paizo, for this decision.

We've gone to great effort to keep shipping prices as low as we possibly can.

UK shipping prices are very reasonable. I really appreciate that.

I just wish my latest orders would hurry up and arrive.
