I'm excited there IS a 4th Edition! Woot WotC R and D!

4th Edition

Sovereign Court

This thread isn't about the content of the new release. Go beat that dead horse elsewhere!

So I watched all the DnD Experience vids and was glad to see the R&D guys fired up talking about their work.

I thought I would give a shout out to the good folks at WotC (we know who the "good" ones are, right?) for working hard on creating a new edition of the world's most famous role playing game. Good, Bad, Ugly, whatever it turns out to be.

If you kids can't manage even just a little "woot" I'm going to track down Lorraine Williams and bring her back! Don't make me turn this car around to 1996!

-Pete :-)

Woot!!!

Woot!!!!

Alex, that was cruel. While no proponent of 4E myself I do enjoy to see people fired up about their work and truly interested in bettering the hobby they help to create. While the final productmay be absolute garbage (or not) the fact that there is foreward momentum is, in my opinion, a welcome improvment over the "lets build another splatbook... and another.... and another" mentality that wizards seemed to have recently.

So WOOT! for people who hope to make their hobby better, no matter the result.

Dark Archive

Eh, on the one hand I'm pretty sure I'm not that interested in getting the new edition.

On the other hand, yeah I'm stoked that they're keeping DnD alive. The actual book line probably isn't the most profitable beast, so keeping it around is still neat all in all..even if I'm going to try my damnedest to stick to 3.5 ;p

The Exchange

Yay for 4e!
Looks like it will have some neat stuff to put into my jacked up 3.5 game! :)

Spoiler:
woot

Obviously this is a thread for the pro-4E folks on our boards to talk about being pro-4E. I've suppressed a number of off topic posts.

Liberty's Edge

I do not wish the WotC R&D folks any ill will even if they are taking the game where I choose not to follow, and I hope they find success with their new work.

I'm quite sure this design philosophy hasn't changed on their end. We got 4e splatbooks even before 4e was released.

I seem to remember one of their podcasts stating that they were having trouble producing a book a month because they were running out of ideas. Now with a new edition they can start over with the 'book a month'. They have a lot of salaries/overhead to pay and one book every 6 months isn't going to pay the bills.

Woot!

I don't think you can do that and keep your dignity.

Lone Shark Games

Very seriously, talking to some of the WotC folks it was so endearing how much they really seemed to care. I'd heard reports they ate babies and stole lunch money, but they seemed genuinely interested in making a more fun D&D.

However it turns out, woot!

Yeah, but that is the nature of the biz. Paizo puts out multiple products a month because there is a demand and the products sell. WotC does it for the same reason.

RE - Mr. Frost,

It is interesting to see you guys take a more active role in the moderating of the boards. A sign of the times I imagine.

Thanks for keeping the post on track though.

I'm excited too! Not much more to say, except woot! :)

I agree! The only problem I foresee won't be brought about because the designers lacked effort, or enthusiasm. I think they're honestly trying to make the best game possible. If success was achieved through enthusiasm and desire, 4E would be guaranteed to be a success. Hopefully it all works out as well as I'm hoping!

I see someone deleted my post. Please don't tell me the moderation here is going to become as heavy handed as WotC's and ENworld's. If that becomes the case, you might as well shut the whole board down, since valid discussions become impossible.

I believe in free speech, but I also see the need for zoning it. If this thread is to be a place where people are able to celebrate their joy at a new edition, and you burst in shouting "Death to Wizards! Defenestrate Mearls! Bounds! Gadzooks!" then you are a little like a homophobe going into a gay bar with a "God hates f@&*" teeshirt.

Let people have their party. You can chime in, lurk and read or go and hang out with like minded people in the many other threads available.

If you wish to make a link to a thread you start to discuss something, that seems more appropriate.

Shilling "Down with the man!" has its place too. This is not it.

As a thought exercise, we could write top ten lists of what we like about the new edition.

How incredibly ironic that when anti-4e posters told the 4e crowd they could find other places to hang out instead of here it became an issue of great consternation. And yet, here you are passing that advice on to another poster and feeling smugly justified in doing so.

At this point, this is what I'm hoping for, too. Some of the 4th edition ideas seem really cool and I'm stealing most of the fluff.

My post didn't even come close to being as bad as what you just described. It was just as valid as anyone else's opinion.

Cory. I was in no way making an attack on you. I did not see your post. I just saw the post-shaped hole where the Admin mentioned it was removed for criticism. I was speaking in the abstract and not the concrete. I apologise for any offense. I stand by my post and will argue that a strong metaphor is not an insult. It would be erroneous to assert that my post said:

All fourth edition haters are homophobes.

they are much more obviously tetraphobes.

I am smug because I am wonderful and happy. I am a spectacular person, loved by all. (not by liches yet, but we can hope.)

I move that the last seven posts above be stricken from the record and replaced with penguins or daffodils.

Woot for good people working hard.

Pete Apple,

I'll never give up my Golarion, even if it remains 3.5.. but I ordered me that gift set of 4th Edition books at Amazon!

(Unless Paizo can come vaguely close in price, then I'll cancel and switch)

It might not be DnD and maybe I'll never run Pathfinder with it, but I say it looks kinda fun!

Hoot!

Hence the reason why I don't post here as much anymore. It seems the 4e-pros are getting what they want...again.

Well, not entirely. Paizo did the very smart thing and chose NOT to follow WotC's capitalist agenda and went the idealist route with D&D (because D&D, I believe, should be a game run by idealists and not capitalists) and went with a 3.75...and backwards compatible!

So...WOOT to NOT following 4th Edition's rocky road to doom. :D

Please. This is not about winning and losing. If you want to frame it that way and you wish to gloat over some perceived victory then this is not the place to do it.

Huh? Rocky road to doom? You mean like bowing down to a very vocal minority and steering your product away from a better-than-average chance for profitability? That rocky road to doom? ;-D

Actually, the liberal/gambler in me salutes Paizo's bold move with the Pathfider rpg. I sincerely hope it pans out for them!

The sheer gutsiness of it caused me to multiply my Paizo subscriptions. On the other hand, though not receiving a lot of love here, I do truly like some of the concepts the 4th edition team is pulling together. So, it looks like I will be wandering though Golarion, the Shadowfell, and the Feywild all. My wallet was hoping I would not be so accepting as this, but alas, I appear to be hooked.

A big ups and 1337 Woot to all pen and paper games out there no matter what the stripe. Never wish bad things on others, that negativity has a way of returing tenfold upon your own house. Though I will wait on 4e, possibly forever, I still love WotC for the years of gaming they gave me. Best of luck with the release fellahs, and all you 4ers out there play till the dice fall from your nerveless hands!
