Sorry for the delay, been a bit of a crazy week. Got the totaled car thing settled, had a bad migraine, had our personal Christmas early, and then yesterday an ice dam caused water to sheet down through the upstairs and into the house via the back door frame. Spent most of the day doing laundry and cleaning up after that mess (walls are trashed and will need…something), and I have to take my wife to a Doctor’s appointment today, but otherwise I think I’m caught up. Not having internet access at work isn’t helping either.
No problem.

Guys, I’m going to be on holidays from the 20th of December through to the 11th of January. I should have internet access during most of that period, although my posting schedule may be a bit different. However, my internet access will be very limited from the 27th through to the 2nd.

I honestly don't know. I have a credit in the Zobeck gazetteer, but I didn't spot anything of mine. I haven't been contacted about anything new, either.
There's a pic of a guy with a bird on his arm in the tales of Zobeck that kinda looks like your work. No sig I could see, but the styling looks familiar.

I'll let the pbp go for a minute until the day after Christmas or so and give Mike and Radavel a chance to chime in if they like. I hope everyone has a great holiday, Jesus related or otherwise.
What do you guys think about maybe bringing in another player or two to replace our absent adventurers? I'm cool either way as it is, just wondering.

Okay, so I got two fellers (Bryan and Davi the Eccentric) signed on through my Wanted: Addle-coved Berks thread. So a rogue and wizard will be joining when schedules allow.
Quick word: January may end up being a good test of how much I can juggle at once. I'm hoping to move this month, I have my day job and I'm slated to contribute illustrations for The Core Mechanic blog book. Compounding this, I recently bought an xbox 360, Fallout 3, Mass Effect and Bioshock. I'm going to do my best to stay... er, "regular", but if it takes me a day or two longer than usual, rest assured that there won't be another month long pause between updates.

Hi, everyone. Just wanted to pop in, say hello, get my dot on the thread, and ask a few questions of James while I make my character: 1) How are we handling hit points? and 2) What sources are allowed for selecting spells? (primarily wondering about the Complete series; I don't have the Spell Compendium so that's not really an issue.)
| James Keegan |
For hit points, take the maximum for first level then either the average for your hit die or roll for them for the other two levels. Favored class will grant a +1 hp or skill point. I would prefer sticking to spells in the PFRPG; everything else you should run by me first. I have a few books in the complete series and a lot of other resources, but if I don't have the book you may have to type it up so I can take a look at it.

I guess I'll allow the lesser orb spells. I don't like that they kind of outclass Acid Arrow and similar spells in some respects, but compared to the granted powers for the evocation specialist (1d6 damage + w/ranged touch attack, at will) I think they're in step for the most part.

Welcome aboard! Cool deal, I hear Mass Effect is awesome.
It's definitely one of the prettiest games I've ever played. I'm a few hours in and it's hard (not used to the real time squad thing) but pretty fun.
And I've been drawing lately, so maybe my fears of it ruining my future are unfounded.
I updated Rennet to Pathfinder along with everyone else, if you get a chance to check him out.

James, I've got most of my character's stats and stuff done. I still need to get his personality/background stuff in; will get it as soon as I can. For the abyssal heritor feats, the only "Pathfinderization" that seemed to need done was on the penalties the feats give; I changed the "-2 to Gather Info" to "-2 to Dip when gathering info" and the "-2 to Spot" to "-2 to vison-based Perception checks". Check out the stuff, and let me know if anything's wrong or needs changing.

Looks good to me.

Gray Scribe background
Abyssal patron/past- do you want me to fill this in for myself and tell you later or let you in on it?
The only other problem I can see so far is getting you to meet everyone else. Is it widely known that you're an authority on the Abyss with little need for money? Or are you more considered a general soothsayer, one among many?

Now, with regards to the past itself and whichever abyssal beings were involved: by all means, feel free to run wild. And no need to fill me in until you unleash it on me; I love surprises!
With regards to meeting up with the others - the Gray Scribe is known more as a prophet or soothsayer than a sage; much of his knowledge has come in his search for answers to his prophecies. Obviously, folks who have read his book probably know of him (and think he's barmy more often than not), and some do come to him for readings (although he has no control over what he sees and no real "parlor show"). One additional tidbit that may prove useful - most of his visions do involve the Lower Planes or things related to them. However, his reputation as a sage has grown a bit, as well.
One possibility - A prophecy in his book (or a newly-received one) turns out to be somehow related to the whereabouts of Enoch. Maybe he even runs into the group on one of his rare outside trips, only to get a vision right then and there (a la "the Dead Zone"). Just a thought.
Also,I purposely left the people in his "death vision" open; feel free to run with that one, too.
FYI, I've immensely enjoyed reading the game thread; I really look forward to starting!!

"The servant of the fallen Prince shall flee,
Leaving the graves of Heroes filled
By the fangs of vipers"
Then maybe Gray has one or two more written down in additional notes of his, not realizing the meaning yet? My rambling mind also came up with:
"The men of the forge ally with the men of the beast
In finding the seneschal of the twin lord
To the place of ......................"
Men of the forge being a reference to Rennet and Olli, of course, and men of the beast to Reghar and Thorn. Again, just thoughts; use or ignore as you like!

I was thinking:
Characters:
Thorn of Clovenwood (or Mr. Swire)- The Magician (Confidence, Action, Manipulation; the intoxication of power both good and bad) (This is one of those cards that screams "The Fated!")
O.L.L.I- The Hierophant (Education, Orthodoxy, the possibility of stagnation; the understanding of the boundaries between the self and the other)
Rennet- The Hanged Man (depicted with the mouth scribbled out with a pen) (Sacrifice, Surrender, life in suspension, destruction of the self; the freedom to perceive unhindered by the everyday)
Reghar (or even Mr. Swire)- The Chariot (Conquest, Victory, Impulsivity, Will power; powerful forces controlled to achieve a goal, battle won through self-reliance) (Another Fated card)
Mr. Swire- The Devil (Anxiety, Materialism, Vice; bondage to an idea that keeps one from growing)
The Gray Scribe- The Hermit (Introspection, Guidance, Retreat; the need to withdraw to understand the self, the need to come out to share knowledge with others)
Destination:
The Tower- Chaos, Ruin, Upheaval. The past- The destruction of Demogorgon, the resurrection of Orcus, The Present- Plague mort and the Abyss.

I'm thinking (even if it is kind of a weird way to introduce you) that maybe you dropped off this package with a description to be delivered by the bar tender (along with a healthy garnish so that he would actually deliver it, even if he thinks you're barmy). Maybe they open it, see your embellishments or odd choices of cards, with the address and a brief message written on it and feel the need to follow up. You explain that you have visions, at times very specific ones, and you knew that they would be there and what they're looking for and you want in because of... whatever reason you like.
Perhaps you had a second vision: a door seen through a haze of smoke. People are screaming and shouting in the background and fell creatures roar in the night. It's a worn wooden door to a basement below street level, number 19. There's something you need to find behind that door and these people are also seeking something there. The cards are a means to show them that your visions are accurate, if not always clear.

"The forged ones find allies in the beasts
In finding the seneschal of the twin lord
Where sickness and death lead the way to the primal land."
Or is that just a bit too obvious? My thoughts were to tell them of the reading first, then show them the prophecies I had (the first several years back in the book, the second right before doing the tarot and sending the package).

Well, sorry if my introduction to the party is going a bit too argumentive. I just couldn't think of a way into the group that wouldn't make half of you distrust me, one of you want to arrest me, and cause the last of you to mime furiously at me.
"Pleasantries? You want PLEASANTRIES?!! I'M CHAOTIC NEUTRAL!!!"
