Some other examples of things people hated as much as 4th edition

4th Edition

I figured that we could all use a bit of perspective, so I thought I'd start a thread about some other things throughout history that people hated as much as people seem to hate 4th edition:

computers (programmers in India used to have to have armed security guards)
beer
rock and roll
hip-hop
the idea that the earth goes around the sun
coca cola
free trade
Elvis
George Carlin
democracy
the automobile
VCRs (there is almost no footage from the first two super bowls because they thought that no one would EVER want to watch a show that's already been on)
skirts that *only* came down to women's knees
France

this is just what I could come up with in 5 minutes. Anyone else?

Sovereign Court

terrorism
geoncide
capital punishment
abortion
religious fundamentalists
orthodontists
stupidity
the idea of hell
absolute monarchies
really annoying people

I hope that helps your list.

I notice some things missing from your list:

New Coke
Betamax
The Arch Deluxe
Comunism
Facism
8-track

not every "hated" thing is a success as your misleading first post would have people believe, and the fact that a segment of the population hated Elvis and he was a success in the long run has NOTHING what so ever to do with the fact that a segment of the population might hate 4e or have any bearing on whether 4e is a success in the long run.

I do not hate 4e, although I see nothing about it from what we have been told so far that makes me want to switch to it and play it (in fact so far it looks like a gaming system that is particularly uninteresting to me, but I don't "hate it" any more then I hate Vampire the Masquarade or Rifts, I simply don't play games that don't interest me, there is no malice involved)... and I could care less about how well it does in the future (for good or ill). however I do not like seeing one-sided arguments presented as if they mean something (either by those who are for 4e or by those who are against it).

why would he be joking... all of those things are or were hated by some segment of the population, and the OP asked for people to add to the list of things "hated as much as 4e"... he did not (despite his misleading mist) say "list only hated things that later turned out to be successful".

Teletubbies. Seriously. The world would have been better off without Teletubbies.

I hope that he is joking because if he, or anyone else, truly hates 4e as much as genocide or terrorism then something is very wrong.

Some people really, really hated teletubbies. Falwell thought that one of them was part of the gay agenda.

I mainly responded because I like Paizo as a company and having these irrational and vicious rants on their message boards gives them a bad name. There already seems to be a (very?) small anti-Paizo element on EN World that has likely been caused by all this crazy hate talk.

I'm not saying for people to stop discussing or even complaining about what they feel is going to be wrong with the new edition, but when someone compares the 4e previews with mass death I think they should at least be called out as silly.

And Barney. Anyone who doesn't hate Barney?

I apologize for going off topic:

I am getting very tired of hearing this <expletive>. Despite propaganda to the contrary, there has been very little irrationality and viciousness here. And by far, much less than the irrationality and viciousness shown by the "pro-4th Edition" people on other boards such as ENWorld and Gleemax.

I am not saying it was all roses and kittens on the Paizo boards.... But I dare any one to find a board that was more civil (without thread locks / bans / post deletions).

That's all I'm trying to say.

That's all I'm trying to say.

Dudemonkey says computer programmers had armed security guards. Do 4e designers have armed security guards?

People were put on trial over the earth circling the sun debate. Are people being put on trial over 4e?
And, let's just be serious for a sec, NO ONE hates France more than they hate 4e.
So before you say my post is silly, read the first post.

Barney is a necessary evil.

I thought it was France that was the necessary evil.

D&D 3.5.

Now it seems to be generally beloved. I'm guessing 4th Edition will follow a similar path.

There are some quite reasonable folks here that do not like 4E. You, Doc, Cory, Knight, Eileen, and others. But then there are some that make this place unpleasant for folks that have anything positive to say about WotC or 4E.

They are the ones that create the perception of these boards as being grognard central - rightly or wrongly.

I also agree that the pro-4E crowd has its share of the fringe but they tend not to post much - well, here on Paizo anyway.

My 3-year-old loves Barney.

(I personally can't stand him, but like I get a vote :)

Don't forget the mother of all hatreds: DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS How can any of us forget how some parents thought that D&D was going to send their kids to hell.

Heck, just yesterday, my dad was over and he looked at my bookshelf and saw the witchcraft RPG book. He asked me if I was becoming a wiccian (not that there's anything wrong with wiccians). *sigh*

We do hate those colonizing fascists.

I'm glad most of you can see the fun in this thread.

There are probably a lot of people in New England right now who are hating on the Manning family.
