Thank You Rodney Thompson!

I said it before and so have several other people, but I just want to give Rodney props in a thread just for him!

Rodney has waded in on some of the more adversarial 4E threads and answered questions in a consistently polite, patient and respectful manner.

And the net result that I have seen is that suddenly there is real, open, rational discussion about 4E that is not getting flamed from either the pro- or the anti- side.

So not only has Rodney been directly helpful by answering questions to the best of his ability, he's opened a door to better discussion.

I still haven't made up my mind about 4E. I know I'm not the only one, but I'm glad to see more of us talking about it.

So thanks!

I'd have to agree.

Even though my most recent interaction with Mr. Thompson didn't go as well as I had hoped (on my end), his presence is most welcomed and enjoyable.

Thank you for your efforts, and time.

Everything's all good...as long as you promise to call me Rodney. Mr. Thompson is my Dad's name.

Don't make me agree with Disenchanter again!

(Thanks Rodney - and don't forget what to say if you run into those marketing guys in the elevator)

Thanks Rodney!

What about Darth Rod? ;)

Fair enough, Rodney.

You know, Rodney, feel free to mention to some of your coworkers that this is an ok place to play a well. I mean, us kids on the 3.5 side of the tracks might play a mean game of street kick ball from time to time, but your friends from the good side of town are welcome to play here as well. And we promise to not use any of them as the ball (ok, at least most of us promise that, but we understand if your friends choose not to play in those games).

Thank you Rodney for coming over here and conversing with us. I've been following the threads you've been posting in closely. And your honesty and willingness to dialogue with us appreciated by pretty much every one on these boards. (I can't speak for every one of course, but I just did, so I may very well be wrong. Now I'm rambling in parenthesis again...)

EDIT: Apparently I can't spell tongiht.

thanx from me 2

Heh. Actually, I did mention that I was firing up the ol' posting fingers a bit more here lately, and I've been trying to get Stephen Radney-Macfarland to come over here and post about his 4E Pathfinder game, since some people seemed to show some interest in that.

And I succumbed to Rodney's witching ways last night. I posted a little here

and will answer more questions and give more details (as much as I can) until Rodney's compulsion effect expires. :-)

I have to add my thanks, too, Rodney. Pretty brave to wade on in! Plus, I'm glad to see a thread like this....I was a little put off in the fact that a WotC staffer came in to post comments (just like people had been bemoaning their wish to see that) and then everyone started in with the "can't you do something about (insert gripe here)?"

I'm glad to see you here, as I think this really helps "clear the air" a bit on 4e for many folks. I'd think it'd be great to see Stephen post, too..but he doesn't strike me as the messageboard type.

BTW, is this Pathfinder game he's running the one he was going to run online?

No, I'm pretty sure that was an Age of Worms campaign.

Weighing in late here, I'm glad Scribe gave Rodney some props here.

For a long time, it has been a permeating sentiment that "the people at WotC don't care about us, blah blah blah." It was also wondered aloud by many whether any "WotC folk" ever perused these boards.

I've skimmed over your multiple posts Rodney, and seriously, thank you.

Amidst all the 4e furor, it's really nice to read something honest and plainly stated by someone in the know. I think you've done wonders in terms of quashing some of the anti-4e hysteria that has been clogging up these boards for some time.

The one I run online is an Age of Worms and I have not converted that one...and I might not; we are having enough fun without converting the only thing that would make me change my mind is if my players demand it.

Since this group is not NDA'ed, I'll just have to wait until 4e is released and see what they have to say.

OK, I stand corrected....you DO post!

Geez, it's been a while...of course, you've been busy it seems. ;) Regardless, I'm sorry I missed out on that online game! But, oh well.

Here's hoping that Adso and Visoka ride again someday......

Heya Timitius...I do post on occasion, though I soon get distracted and flutter away on this whim or the other.

I am really hoping that Adso and Visoka do get to adventure again soon.

As far as the online game...you may not have missed your opportunity. We may be looking for another player soon. We may have lost the wizard to the hazards of East Coast late nights and a real world. I'll keep you informed!

Stephen

thank you both. Your contributions have not converted me, but I no longer wish to see you all impaled on my lawn while being eaten by weasels. In fact, I will happily forgo the flogging and the period of indenturement creating NPC's for my game as well.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I was definitely getting the feeling that WotC had abandoned the 3.X crowd as not woth their time and effort. That may or not be the case, but your presence makes it known without a doubt, that it wasn't a unanimous decision. That by itself speaks volumes.

Be well, live long...and LONG LIVE 3.5!! Or at least until the duct tape wears out.

I read (on the internet, therefore it must be true) that duct tape can help remove warts. If duct tape is powerful enough to do that, it must be powerful enough to hold 3.5 together, atleast until 5E comes out in 4-5 years.

Yes, thanks to both of you for your posts. I'm not a 4th Ed customer, but I am an interested party :)

Nice to see the civility and communication returning.
