Sweet!

Bring on the redshirts, I say.

I lost interest with the Next Generation movies. I did see the one where Kirk dies and wasn't all that impressed. This one, I will go see. I like the idea that it involves the original characters "younger versions". Is it just Spock as a younger person? Others? I know Nimoy is in it and Shatner isn't. Can anyone give me some solid information on the plot and actors to appear in relation to the original characters? Who are the main characters of the movie? I got the impression that it isn't a take from one of the later series, am I wrong?

The rumor I've heard regarding the story is that the elder Spock (Nimoy) has to interfere with the past to prevent a group of time-travelling Romulans from assassinating the young Kirk. The story is supposedly focused on the three main characters (Kirk, Bones, Spock).

Cast (confirmed on IMDB):
Spock (Elder): Leonard Nimoy
Spock (Young): Zach Quinto (Heroes)
"Bones" McCoy: Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings, Pathfinder)
James T. Kirk: Chris Pine (fairly unknown actor)
Uhura: Zoe Saldana (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Sulu: John Cho (Harold from "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle")
Scotty: Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead)
Chekov: Anton Yelchin (fairly unknown actor)

The main bad guy (Nero) is played by Eric Bana (Munich, Hulk)

However, his father, Robert Pine, is pretty well-known to TV viewers of the '70s as the captain on CHiPs.

Wow, impressive! This is far better than I expected to hear. At best I thought it would include only young spock and kirk (maybe). I wanted the whole character cast but didn't want to go into it with high hopes. Thank You Robert, you just made my day!
