OK folks you have either kept your eyes open for this or followed the link from the Addle-coved Berks thread. In any case we're all here to play Planescape!

Looking for 4-6 players starting @ 3rd level using 32 pt buy. My favorite levels to play tend to be the early mid-levels so we'll probably take this up to 12-13th or so. Planar races are encouraged (planetouched, spiker, bariaur [med sized version], rogue modrons, etc.) but run your concept by me and we'll see. I'd recommend keeping LA's less than +2! For Classes I'm open to almost anything from the Core, PHBII, XPH, and Complete series. I do not have the Book of Nine Swords so I'm totally unfamiliar with Warblades, Crusaders, etc, etc. I also recommend a balanced party...

To describe the idea I have for this campaign I'd have to say it's a romp around the Outlands and its Gatetowns with a few forays into the neighboring planes and a trip to an infamous Inner Planar Metropolis. You'll start out as agents of the Planar Trade Consortium working for a blood named Spiral Hal'oigt. The Aasimar merchant is one of Sigil's Golden Lords and calls kip in the Lady's Ward. You however will be starting from the most excellent World Serpent Inn awaiting your contact and next job.

Crystal clear, friend.

No stats yet, just determined to go high CHA and female, cuz I've never done it before. How does hailing from Ysgard/Vaneheim sound? What's the scoop for clerics on the planes. Business as usual?

Oh yeah, that's my girl right above, brothers. I reckon on stating her to be our mouthpiece and healer.

The Exchange

Doomguard Depressed Dwarven Dread Necromancer - maybe. Maybe not. There is too much choice.

Perhaps I should wait for the rest of you. I am currently playing a fighter and a beguiler so those are out.

Come on inspiration.

I may take a level in Bard before going off into cleric, which I've neither seen nor done--to improve her social skills. She's gonna be a lover, not a fighter.

Dark Archive

Offering to play the fighter slot. Though I am requesting that I be allowed to use the stonechild monster class, as per the Races of Stone.

Edit: The use of the monster class will reflect that my character has not yet reached the age of maturity.

Sovereign Court

Does 3rd level include the LA?
I'm thinking about a githzerai monk or an exiled tridrone fighter, but if you want the La to stay 2 or less, the the modrons are all out.

The Exchange

I'm hankering to play a wizard.

DM info

Spoiler:
I would like to be a Bugbear Wiz2 probably thrown onto the planes for stealing from the Church of Hruggek, the bugbear god.

Sovereign Court

Okay... I'm not as smart as I think.
I re-read the modron article from Dragon 354, which is where I'm assuming the Modron character stuff is coming from.

I'll play an exiled Modron fighter currently named Cuetanzee-enth (Cue for short)

for the DM

Spoiler:
He's a true believer in the myth that Primus drives some modrons rogue and then approves them for exile so they can learn about other people, and he is certain that he's one of those. He acts accordingly... trying to stay true to his modron roots while being flexible enough to function outside the bounds of "normal' society.
He's a non-standard model, looking more humanoid than most modrons, another clue that fuels his belief. for all I know, he's completely off his rocker, and Primus doesn't give one thought to him now.

Sovereign Court

I'd love to try a PbP, but I've never played a PbP before or Planescape before. If you'd allow me to play I'd be playing a naive young Tiefling duskblade (think Hellboy).

Eir will be a 3rd level divine bard.

Ok I changed my mind.

Is a cleric with the following feats ok?

Persuasive
+2 on Bluff. +2 on Intimidate.

Trustworthy
+2 on Diplomacy. +2 on Gather Information.

Alluring
Pre: Persuasive, Trustworthy
+2 on Diplomacy. +2 on save DCs against your mind-affecting,
language-dependent spells.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4, RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

Ok looks like an interesting group forming up here. Gods can be from any Major pantheon or you can choose from non-deific philosophies like the Godsmen's "Source" or the "Great Beyond" of the Athar.

An Ysgardian would be cool Kruelaid, there will be many opportunities for that character to shine as Ysgard and it's Gatetown Glorium will see some major action in. The Ringgivers might be a good sect for you to look into... Trickery and Charm might be good Domains to choose from. Loki perhaps?

French Wolf I think a Bugbear Wizard in the Planes would likely hail from Acheron or it's Gatetown Rigus. The Mercykiller's might fit him well.

Stunty I like the Exile (ne Rogue) Modron angle... it's good to go.

Guy a tiefer duskblades sounds good.

Radavel I'll dig up m7y Races of Stone and take a gander at the Stonechild...

Shadow Lodge

Hey there. Any more spaces open? What archetype do you want to see more of? It looks like the Arcane angle is covered, so what would you like as a fill-in?

I had a random idea to play a Nathri, the small, green-skinned denizens of the Ethereal plane, possibly as some kind of Psionic Character...

Exiles are rogues who don't get hunted down for being different. They have permission to leave the great equation.
I'll have a profile finished in the next day or so.

Sovereign Court

How are we working starting gear/cash?

I'm taking the standard 3rd level 2700 gp from 135 in the DMG.

primemover003 wrote:

Possibly luck and charm or trickery and charm.

I really like like that reroll once a day.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4, RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

Rad, the Stonechild is Go! You're gonna be hurting for hp's and skill points though... but from a guy who has a hard time playing anything other than humans (that bonus feat and +1skill pt /lvl is like crack) it's tough to go like that!

Starting Cash is as the DMG for 3rd level. No more than 1/4 of that may be spent on any one item. Magic Items from the DMG and MIC are kosher, run any other requests past me so I can look them up.

Psifox you make 6... so far the only role not filled is the skill monkey. Maybe a Lurk? Nathri are feral lil suckers! I still remember the illustration from the PSMC3 of them! Where is the PC write up of the Nathri?

Primover003 I have 2 ideas I would like to run by you and see witch one you think fits better in your story.

Spoiler:

Idea #1

Nym
LE Human Psion lvl 3 (planar)

Playing off the idea that belief = truth in the planes this character has some really far reaching ideas. He believes that he can become a god. He believes he can accomplish this by using mindseed on lots of people. Mindseeded people slowly become him mentally 8 levels lower. When there are enough Nyms about believing that they "Nym" can become a god then he (the origanal) would. At least this is what he would believe. Now weather this character is the original or a copy is up to you. Note however that if you decide to go the copy route (and you don't need to tell me which I am if you think it would be cool for me not to know) that I should actually be level 7. So you would need to use some mechanic to account for the additional level loss and my memory loss to the loss of levels. Did that make any sense hehehe?

Idea #2

Kohei
LN Human monk 3 (planer)

One or both of Kohei's parents were planers that moved to and settled on a prime plane. The parent(s) never told Kohei about his planer heritage so he could focus on fitting in as a prime (or somesuch).Or we could use the dropped off on the monastery doorsteps of a prime is fine with me also. Having grown up in a monastery Kohei uses running (also climbing, swimming etc.) as a moving meditation. On one of his runs he encountered a portal to sigil (witch he can see because of his heritage) and in his meditative state mistakes it for a path to enlightenment (in a weird sort of way he may not be wrong) and passes threw it.

Feat progression would be wild talent, speed of thought, fleet of foot, up the walls (jackie chan style), and maybe run.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4, RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

Hmmmm.... Mynis the mind seed is a twisted hook that I could use later on in the campaign and the Monk sounds like a perfect Cipher. The Mindseed character would obviously be a Telepath right? And the Original Nym (if you are a copy) would be level 11, not 7. An Ardent would fit the Belief = Power themes of a PS game nicely too.

Ok we have 7... an auspicious number. I think that is good for our little game. Have a Stat block ready by next Friday (the 18th) and post it here first. The when I get the Thread going in the PbP forum each of you can post your characters bio there in the very first post... stats in spoiler boxes. It seems we have a wide range of classes, races, and alignments. Remember you'll need to be able to work together, but as you are employeed mercs as it were you don't have to necessarily mesh as well as a traditional Adventuring Company would. You get paid for you work and don't have to like each other, but you have to work with the others to get paid!

Now I'll tell you this is my 1st DM'ing PbP so we'll take it slow at first. Any Dice rolling issues anyone have? Or recommendations for programs/methods to roll? If we don't use a program we'll have to trust each other... though this will be as much RP as Combat. I just love using Skills. It's my favorite mechanic of 3.x

Ok this is Karrin, my Tiefling Duskblade, I'll buy some more things later and I'll need some setting info before I flesh out the bio

Karrin Kind wrote:

You're starting out at the World Serpent Inn, a demiplane of sorts that takes the form of a quite exceptional Inn. You're in the employ of the Planar Trade Consortium, a merchant conglomerate based out of Tradegate (see Complete Scoundrel) the Gatetown to the Twin Paradises of Bytopia.

Whether you got signed on in the Cage, on the Land, or somewhere else "Out-of-Touch" the PTC has been a good gig for you, so far. They pay well, provide decent perks for contracted services and will pull your head out of your chest if you get too banged up on assignment... though you've heard that being Raised or Resurrected brings a slightly higher commitment to the Consortium.

You are contracted to the Trade Lord Spiral Hal'oigt of Sigil, an aasimar who made his Golden Lord Status by running arms in the Blood War. Even though it bought him an entry in the Deadbook, rich bloods don't stay Written there for long, and Spiral has the jink to erase more than a few entries! Your last assignment ended well but wasn't much of a challenge for you and you let that be known. So your superiors have sent you to the World Serpent to meet a contact for a new job more suited to your talents.

The original Nym could be any level, depending on whether or not he has made any copies yet. If he has made copies he would have to be level 15 (mindseed is an 8th level power). All copies should be level 7 or higher (mindseed is a 8th level telepath power. Minimum manifester level of 15. 15-8=7.)

Btw what is an Ardent?

I like both ideas very much, do you have a preference?

I don't know how you would like all the responsibility, but I'm fine with you making all of my rolls behind the scenes. I think it would create a more immersive feel.

One further question. How do you rule on the Psionics/Magic transparency?

PM003,

I am partial to Invisible Castle and will be posting all my rolls with IC url links. Now and then I can't access it because I am posting from behind "the Great Firewall" of China and I'll just do it the old fashioned way--but at those times I'll tell you. If I am ever gone for more than 24 hours it is probably because of computer problems.

You might want to post your e-mail just in case.

If you are into battlemaps I would be happy to provide you with my version of a Chessex online battlemap. Just let me know. You need a photo editor to mark positions on it and a place to post it. It looks likes this. Just click on the map to enlarge it and you can download np. Let me know if you want a custom map because I can crank those out pretty fast.

And for the resta youse guys,
Eir has diplomacy pretty wrapped up, so whoever makes a skill monkey you can concentrate on the technical stuff.

primemover003 wrote:

I found it on this site. In chapter two. I don't know if you'll allow it, but I thought it would be cool.

I had the idea of playing an 'Albino' Nathri - He's got blue skin, has no hair, that sort of thing (I couldn't find a good picture, hence the change).

I don't have a problem with the Lurk, but I'm curious as to what kind of skill monkey you want? The Lurk lacks many of the 'traditional' break-and-enter skills, which are the bread-and-butter of the skill monkey. With that in mind, I'm fine with playing a 'vanilla' Rogue. Not that a Nathri Rogue is very Vanilla...

Kruelaid wrote:

That's the plan!

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4, RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

I run the Psionics=Magic default. Ardents are in Complete Psionic. they're sort of like psionic clerics in that they choose Mantles that represent certain philosophies. I'd compare them to PsyWars in power.

The Nathri looks good. Fezrik doesn't have to play a rogue or even a skill monkey really.

Come up with whatever Characters you want to play, just know some tasks or encounters might be more difficult without certain skills or class abilities. I won't totally screw you guys over but I'll make you sweat once in a while!

I was just thinking of posting hand drawn maps on graph paper when needed (I generally spontaneously generate maps for my RLC with dry erase on a 3x9 sheet of glass over a grid) as I've always liked cartography. I've never really caught on to the map gens too much. I'll take a look at Invisible castle though.

FrenchWolf, just a note... Bugbears have 3 monster HD and an LA+1 so you couldn't start as Wiz 2 because you'd have an ECL of 6.

Eir just noticed a small mistake in your profile, your Str and Dex drop by 2, not your Con after Raging.

The Exchange

That shows how often I play monsters. Apologies I forgot about the HD - back to the drawing board.

Thanks DM.

ps. I would prefer to roll dice.

Sovereign Court

Great, thanks for the update, Seeing as I know very little of planescape I'll have my character be very naive when it comes to the great wheel . . . she's led a sheltered existence up until this point. <I do have dragon 351 so I know the world serpent inn.>

Does it matter what world she considers home? I intend to have her being very religious, so I'd like to select a lawful good deity, and my understanding of the world serpent is that it connects to all the worlds, but I thought I better ask if you had anything specific in mind before I started writing. Would my character have been born and raised in Sigil? If so, what's a good 'good' deity?

As for the rolling issue, it really doesn't matter to me, I'm not sure how these dice rolling sites work but I'm willing to learn. If you want to handle all the rolls, again - fine by me.

Quick question about equipment: I want to buy a +1 chain shirt but it's over the 1/4 limit you've set, is this a hard fast rule or is there a little wiggle room here?

I think I would like a little imput from the rest of my fellow gamers here. What would you guys like to have me bring to the "table", A Telepath (mostly charm, suggestoin, read thaughts, and gathering info abilities) or a Monk (with movement baced feats, simmilur to a Jakie chan style of Mobility)?

Monk=Cipher

Telepath=Taker or Seeker

Yeah, I'll play the skill-boy. Right now, I'm thinking of a Rogue/Soulknife...

Mynis, I'd suggest flipping a coin.

Monk, I'd like to see someone do a good one.

Well it depends, battlefield control would be helpful with a telepath . . . unless we fight creatures that have resistance to that sort of thing, but a monk would be useful in most situations and would make an excellent flanker/ skirmisher.

Depending on the builds they both could be useful out of combat . . .

Personally I think battle field control might be more useful as we don't yet have the blasting power of a pure mage.

Mynis Morne wrote:

Okay, I'll vote for you running a Telepath then. I'm definitely heading down the Rogue path at this stage, and will most likely be throwing in a Soulknife (or perhaps monk) level or two for good measure (eventually aiming for the Thief-acrobat prestige class), so I'll have the balance/climb/tumble/jump skills down, along with the classic Search/Open Lock/Disable Device skills. I don't want to feel like I'm restricting you though, so feel free to play whatever.

EDIT: Also, there's nothing stopping you playing a multiclass character, Prime might let you use the Monastic Training feat (lets you freely multiclass your monk levels with one other class - provided you stay lawful), which would allow you to play something like a Monk/Telepath - Which would rock, IMO.

Fezrik wrote:

Sounds good to me. I'll have Gather info/sense motive skills maxed as well as some handy knowledge skill. So if Psionics = magic then knowledge psionics doubles for knowledge arcana the same with psicraft/spellcraft correct?

Also Alkuin is a friend of mine. I'm sure that he would be willing to play a mage/sorc if Prime003 thought there was enough room.

OK since I cannot be a bugbear, I'll be the next best thing..

DM Prime I'll work on changing the spells this week, since Serpico originally was built to take part in the Paizo Colliseum.

Can I use the Spell Compendium for spells?

Cheers

Edit: Alignment/equipment will get an overhaul too.

DM Prime,

Cleric alone didn't give me enough skill points so Eir has a level in Swashbuckler and 2 in Cleric.

Can you choose two additional languages for me? I'm just not savvy enough to the planes.

Ok a bunch of stuff to sort through here...

I particularly like Bahamut as a Lawful Good deity, he's militant but compassionate and wise.

Spell Compendium is open. I tend to follow the MIC for treasure so I think the +1 Chain shirt is a little much right off the bat. If I were you I'd grab a masterwork chain shirt and allocate the rest of the saved gp for the little things like potions especially anti-status spells like Prot from Evil, Lesser Restoration, Delay poison, etc. The Little things in campaigns are what will kill you!

Alkuin is the 8th and final PC. Thankfully I regularly run a table of 8 so I'm used to the workload!

Languages that will be very handy to know on the Outer Planes obviously are Planar Trade (which you all get free as it's common), Celestial, Infernal, and Abyssal. These are several languages which might be handy as well: Giant, Gnomish, Dwarven, Draconic, Auran, and Ignan. Oh and I don't use the old style magic rules form PS... those were always wonky. I do however flavor some planes the way they used to be (no magic flight on the Beastlands, no weather based spells on Ysgard at least w/o a hefty CL check or a Spell/Power key which acts a Focus componant).

Choosing a home plane is somewhat important as you'll often have the Extraplanar subtype on you as you travel. Because the Planar Trade Consortium is so widespread you can be from the Outer, Inner, Prime, or Transitives.

Just one tweak to the core cosmology is that the Ethereal is cotexistant with the Inner Planes. The Plane of Shadow also touches the Outer Planes here and there...

Kruelaid, I can cover some of those skills for you. That way you can focus more on your divine abilities if you so choose.

I think it's all cool.

Having an overlap in Gather info is useful, and I think doubly so on the Planes.

She's engineered to be a social character and it's sensible to put something in social skills other than diplomacy once you've started going in that direction. This was the plan from the beginning.

Also, I've no interest in a front line cleric, I wanted DEX not STR from the beginning because of the concept, and Swashbuckler gives me some extra HPS and Weapon Finesse. Plus she can feather someone's ass pretty good.

She's a cute, deadly, and deceptive wench of Loki, and gods help any men we do business with.

From what prime said, we'll be doing a little more roleplaying and skill using, so I think I'll be glad I made the choices I did.

unless I read the book wrong, the cold-iron masterwork longsword they give as an example (330 gp value)doubles the cost of the base weapon only... not the cost ofthe masterwork process, so you should be good. I hope so, otherwise my cold-iron masterwork bastard sword is right out.

Stunty is correct you double the base price of the weapon then add the masterwork and it's another +2000gp when you enhance it.
